Chapter 1 THE RUINED PACKAGE

Ava Wilton stood in front of the VIP elevator at Wiltons Enterprises, her gaze fixed on the sleek doors. She brought out her card and attempted to swipe her VIP card, but it was repeatedly rejected, frustrating her efforts. Despite countless tries, the card refused to grant her access. With a resigned sigh, Ava knows something is wrong somewhere, a security Walks in her direction.

"Hello you," Ava said as the security approached her

"Good afternoon ma," the security man addressed her

" I was trying to use the elevator but I can't, "Ava said, showing the card to the security man.

The security man collects the card and makes some attempts but after repeated efforts, the security man notices the card was deactivated.

" Sorry ma the card is deactivated you have to use the public elevator"

He said

Ava abandoned her attempts and the security man and made her way toward the public elevator, joining the bustling crowd in the elevator.

As she stepped into the elevator joining the crowd murmurs rippled through the people around her.

"Isn't that Ava Wiltons, the wife of Augustine Wilton, the company director?" whispered one person to another.

"Why is she using the public elevator with us, what is she planning?" questioned someone else, their voice barely audible over the hum of conversation.

A hushed discussion ensued, with rumors swirling about Ava's status within the Wiltons family.

"Some say she was cast out as a witch by her husband because she forced herself into the family and she has not for once borne a child for her husband, but still claims to be part of the family," remarked another passenger.

"Lower your voice, she might hear everything you are saying," cautioned someone else, glancing warily at Ava.

Though Ava could hear every whisper made by the crowd, she remained composed, not uttering a single word until the elevator reached her floor. Stepping out, she headed straight for Augustine's office.

Upon entering, Ava found Augustine seated at his desk, engrossed in work and surrounded by a haze of smoke from his cigarette.

"Why have you deactivated my VIP elevator card and my other access card for the company?" Ava demanded, her tone firm as she addressed her husband.

"And who are you to have access to the company, that your access was deactivated? And by the way, I gave the order for the deactivation," Augustine retorted sharply.

"I am your wife, for crying out loud, Augustine" Ava exclaimed, her voice tinged with frustration.

Augustine chuckled dismissively. "My wife? Did you just say 'my wife'? You shouldn't say that, The title belongs to another person you know, and I don't love you. Why are you calling yourself my wife when you know you are not worth being called that?"

"I have been married to you for years, and you never once made me happy in this marriage or for once see me as your wife but The fact that I am still wearing this ring means I am still your wife," Ava insisted.

Augustine scrutinized her, his gaze unwavering. "Oh, I can see the ring. But what brings the Lord of the Rings to my office this afternoon?"

"I brought you your lunch," Ava replied, placing the food box on the table.

"Enough of this drama and pretending. I did not tell you to bring food to my office or order you to cook for me. This has to end. I don't love you, I don't have any feelings for you, and you know that. Why do you keep on doing this?" Augustine's tone was firm, his words cutting.

"Because I love you and protect what is mine. I have to protect our family," Ava insisted, her voice trembling with emotion.

"It's been two years already, and Charlotte is back in town. I want us to end this so-called marriage between us. You've done enough for your family, and I think Charlotte can do better for the family. She is the one I love," Augustine declared, his expression resolute.

"You have no shame. You want to marry my sister and divorce me. You keep bringing this up, and I will never sign the divorce papers," Ava retorted defiantly.

"You know I don't love you in the first place. You know it's Charlotte I love. You forced yourself into me and made this whole drama happen. I will never forgive you. You have to sign this divorce letter and leave," Augustine said, producing a divorce letter from his desk.

"I will never sign the devil's letter! I will never sign it!" Ava declared, her voice echoing with determination as she headed towards the door.

"Fine, if you decide not to sign it, I will take my actions too, just know that every access you have to the family property will be declined from now on and All your accounts in the family name will be blocked only if you sign the letter," Augustine warned, his voice firm and resolute.

Ava froze in her tracks as Augustine's words sank in.

"Sign the paper, and I will give you 10% of my property. Additionally, I will give you 50 million to take of yourself and I think that should be enough for you" Augustine offered, his tone softer now, tinged with a hint of desperation.

Ava remained still, silently processing Augustine's words, her mind racing with conflicting emotions.

"You said you did everything for your family, fine, do it for your family. Take the money and the property and leave far away, let Charlotte take over" Augustine urged, his voice tinged with a hint of desperation.

Ava turned towards Augustine, her eyes filled with a mixture of hurt and resolve. "You want to send me far away because of your greediness and selfishness. I've done everything for you, just for you to love me back. But you don't. Fine, I will sign the paper, only on one condition."

"What is your condition? Name it, anything. I will do it for you. Just sign the divorce paper and leave," Augustine replied, his tone pleading.

"Tomorrow is going to be our 2nd wedding anniversary. Let us celebrate it as a normal wedding anniversary, the one we didn't properly celebrate on the day of our wedding. Let's spend time together, act normal like husband and wife, and then I will leave," Ava proposed.

After a long moment of contemplation, Augustine finally accepted.

After the agreement Ava stepped out of Augustine's office, a rush of memories flooded her mind, recounting the moments she first met him and the incident of the day. She entered her car, the familiar scent of leather enveloping her, and drove off into the bustling city streets, lost in thought.
