Chapter 1 1

LORENA

It happened on the opening night of Apex.

They were all there, my friends from school, trying to make me happy. Let's do something we would never do tonight. That is how I ended up here. Sofia and Lucie were such good friends.

I just found out I was getting married a few hours ago. There were at least a hundred women in the club, most of them wearing tight short dresses

"It's my party, my bachelorette party," I clarified.

"Yes, is there a problem," Lucie yells.

"No, but this is a mafia club," I announced, thinking they weren't aware.

"We are not twelve Lorena you have to learn to lose yourself to a night of passion, not that loser who drools over your sister" Sofia returns

So my supposed fiance, Giulio Moravia, worships the ground my elder sister walks on; the family contract states that one of the Calvino daughters has to marry into the Moravia family, but it didn't state which daughter, but, My father placed so much value on my sister; he wasn't going to give her to just anyone. So, of course, I'm the sacrificial lamb.

A thrill of excitement runs through me. I suddenly feel like I'm being watched, and the feeling persists.

Sofia shouts " I just saw a cute bartender, let's go take shots."

Immediately we got there she started flirting with him, typical Sofia.

The conversation between us shifts from ex-boyfriends to Lucie talking about her latest crush, some guy she met online; I tuned it all out.

My eyes move around the club quickly reviewing the random men searching for something or someone.

"I'll be right back," I tell Sophia

There are a lot of people here. I keep pushing between bodies, trying to get to the restroom.

I relieved myself and came back to join them for a toast.

To us, we said, as we clink our glasses together, "Today's mafia princesses tomorrow's mafia queens" Sofia added. Alcohol spilling around our glasses.

We find our way back to the dance floor, swaying our hips and laughing. For the first time in over one year, I feel lighter

Then I spotted him over at the bar. An extremely hot man, an incredibly hot stranger, and he was coming my way; Sofia and Lucie were already far away at this point.

A waiter approaches me on the dance floor "Miss" he says "the gentleman from that table has sent this for you"

I didn't get a chance to react because a hand reached from behind me and thrust the drink back into the confused waiter's chest.

"She is already spoken for," a deep voice barks above my head.

I take a step towards him and the scent of seduction and citrus and I love the smell of citrus.

Then he spoke "Ciao"

That Italian accent was smooth and raspy; God, yes, and I stared.

Hello, I greeted him, appearing smooth and sophisticated. Meanwhile, my heart pounded in my chest. Jesus Christ, this man had to be illegal. He looked way older than I am but he was so hot.

"Celebrating," he asked with gentle attention. "By the looks of it, whatever you are celebrating went well.

I was quick to correct "No just a girls' night" I rectified that if this man could take me away with him then I would have something to celebrate.

'Get your act together, Lorie. You don't know who he is,' my subconscious scolded me.

However, we had some crazy chemistry that I did not need at this point in my life.

At this point, it was official: I was attracted to him as if he were in my mind. His beautiful lips turned into a smile, and I was done for.

"Lorie, we are off to the VIP floor. Are you good here or are you coming?" Lucie yelled.

"Yeah I'll meet you there" l returned.

I never moved my eyes from him for fear that he would disappear and I would miss my chance. I needed to see him for a while longer.

A smile passed his lips, and his dimples had me blushing; he had a sharp jawline, looked rugged, and had a mouth for saying filthy things with a straight nose. My eyes roamed over him and found no single flaw.

The navy suit made him look in charge.

My eyes fell to his hands and found no rings because that was a line I would never cross.

"Did I win your approval?" he said in that accent, sending shakes through my body.

The Italian accent was turning me on

"I haven't decided yet," I replied, lying through.

While other men in the club were looking at my body he was just staring at my face trying to read me.

He hasn't asked for my name, and sincerely, that's better considering my life nowadays. The contract on my marriage was going to be signed tomorrow.

My single days are already over so why don't I do something for myself? At Least get a taste of this sexy Italian.

"Dance with me," The deep timbre of his voice rolls over me.

"Okay," I answered, without thinking twice.

His hands on my waist tighten as he demands my attention from my thoughts, pulling me closer to his hard chest.

"I guess you're lucky today. I normally don't do this," I smile, trying to hide how nervous I am; talking or flirting with men has never been a problem for me before, but I find it hard now.

His hands move to the small of my back as a waiter passes with a tray of shots. I grabbed one because I was definitely going to need it.

As we move to the dance floor I find a pair of eyes staring at me with anger from across the room."Wasn't this guy on a date?" I said in my thoughts, narrowing my eyes.

The last thing I need is a woman making a scene. God forbid she starts yelling in Italian; I won't even know how to respond.

As the music starts, I get lost in it, rubbing my body against him like an animal in heat; he encourages me by kissing my neck and placing his hand on the small of my back; it's getting hot in here, and we lose ourselves.

Next, he slams his mouth against mine and whispers, "I'll make it good for you." Without a single doubt, I know it would be great. He pulled me towards an elevator, we went up, kissing like we wanted to devour each other.

The elevator stops, and we are in a very cool penthouse.

We enter a large bedroom, and he corners me against the wall with desire brimming all over my pores.

"Wait a second," I asked, pushing through my desire. "I don't even know your name," I questioned.

He ignored me. His body slammed against mine and our lips fused.

He was so much taller than me that it felt like I'd been swallowed whole by him. My eyes rolled into the back of my head from the pleasure that shot through me. Stars exploded behind my eyelids, and I wrapped my hands around his neck, clutching the collar of his shirt and pulling him closer. Needing more of him.

He lifted me into his arms and my legs

wrapped around his waist. My heels fell against the hardwood floor with a thump. His fingers dug into my ass as I ground.

You aren't wearing underwear?"

I looked at him with a furrowed brow. "Does that matter right now?"

"You're right. It doesn't," he agreed.

Stretching out on the bed, he pulled me with him "Sit on my face. Right now," he ordered.

"What?" He spanked my ass.

"Last warning. Your pussy needs to be on my face." he spanked my ass once more for emphasis. "Now."

My stepmother sold me like a piece of inventory to a man known for breaking people just to plug the financial crater my father left behind. I was delivered to the Morton estate in the middle of a freezing storm, stripped of my phone, and told that if I didn't make myself useful, my senile grandfather would be evicted from his care facility by noon. The master of the house, Adonis Morton IV, was a monster living in a silent mausoleum, driven to the brink of madness by a sensory condition that turned every sound into a physical assault. When I was forced into his suite to serve him, he didn't see a human being; he saw a source of agony. In a fit of animalistic rage, he pinned me to the wall and nearly strangled me to death just for the sound of a shattering teacup. I only survived by using my grandfather’s secret herbal blends and pressure-point therapy to force his overactive nervous system into a drugged sleep. But saving him was my greatest mistake. Instead of letting me go, Adonis moved me into a guest suite connected to his own bedroom by a hidden door. He didn't just want me as a servant; he needed me as a human white-noise machine to drown out the demons in his head. The nightmare deepened when he took the promissory note that defined my freedom and tore it into confetti. By destroying the debt, he destroyed my exit strategy. He replaced my maid’s uniform with a silver silk dress that clung to my skin but did nothing to hide the dark, ugly bruises his fingers had left on my neck. He branded me as his "primary care associate," a title that was nothing more than a gilded cage. I felt a sickening sense of injustice as he forced me to sign a contract that banned me from contacting other men and required me to sleep wherever he slept. He looked at me with a possessive heat, calling me his "medication" rather than a woman. My family had sold my body, but Adonis Morton was intent on owning my very presence, using my grandfather’s medical bills as a leash to keep me within twenty feet of him at all times. Standing in a neglected greenhouse with mud staining my expensive silk, I realized I was no longer a victim waiting for rescue. If I was going to be his medication, I would learn how to be his cure—or his undoing. I began clearing the weeds with a cold, calculated frenzy, determined to turn this prison into my laboratory. He thinks he has trapped a helpless girl, but I am going to pry open the cracks in his stone walls until his entire world comes crashing down.

I was four months pregnant, weighing over two hundred pounds, and my heart was failing from experimental treatments forced on me as a child. My doctor looked at me with clinical detachment and told me I was in a death sentence: if I kept the baby, I would die, and if I tried to remove it, I would die. Desperate for a lifeline, I called my father, Francis Acosta, to tell him I was sick and pregnant. I expected a father's love, but all I got was a cold, sharp blade of a voice. "Then do it quietly," he said. "Don't embarrass Candi. Her debutante ball is coming up." He didn't just reject me; he erased me. My trust fund was frozen, and I was told I was no longer an Acosta. My fiancé, Auston, had already discarded me, calling me a "bloated whale" while he looked for a thinner, wealthier replacement. I left New York on a Greyhound bus, weeping into a bag of chips, a broken woman the world considered a mistake. I couldn't understand how my own father could tell me to die "quietly" just to save face for a party. I didn't know why I had been a lab rat for my family’s pharmaceutical ambitions, or how they could sleep at night while I was left to rot in the gray drizzle of the city. Five years later, the doors of JFK International Airport slid open. I stepped onto the marble floor in red-soled stilettos, my body lean, lethal, and carved from years of blood and sweat. I wasn't the "whale" anymore; I was a ghost coming back to haunt them. With my daughter by my side and a medical reputation that terrified the global elite, I was ready to dismantle the Acosta empire piece by piece. "Tell Francis to wash his neck," I whispered to the skyline. "I'm home."
