She supposed to be a healer. A pawn. A broken heart waiting to be crushed. Valkyrie has always seen herself as an unworthy omega-kept alive by Luna Dowager's hand solely to save her only son, Alpha Ragnor. A prophecy claimed that only a hybrid werewolf from the hidden X Village could cure his madness syndrome. But the late Alpha's hunt for a cure turned into a massacre, wiping out the villagers, leaving only baby Valkyrie alive. Adopted by the Luna to ensure her son's cure, Valkyrie grew into her role, unaware that fate would entwine her with Alpha Ragnor in ways that would shatter everything. When the prophecy was fulfilled, Valkyrie became his mate-a cruel twist of destiny that tore Alpha Ragnor between love and duty. Fearing his mother's wrath and uncertain how to protect her, Ragnor rejected her, unaware that rejection would spiral into a painful chain of events. Now hunted by fate, love, and madness, Valkyrie must grapple with her heart as another Alpha captures her attention, threatening her bond with Ragnor and sparking a deadly rivalry. As war brews on the horizon and secrets claw their way into the light, Ragnor's descent into madness takes a dark and devastating path. Who will survive this twisted fate? And how far will love and madness go to claim what they desire?

Chapter 1 Rejection

Valkyrie

"I, Ragnor Howard, Alpha of the Blue Fire Pack, reject Valkyrie as my mate."

His words cut through me like a blade, sharp and unrelenting.

Today was meant to be the happiest day of my life. My eighteenth birthday. The day I was told I'd find my mate, the one person who would make me whole.

"No! It can't be! The Alpha's mate is just a lowly servant?" someone shouted in disbelief, echoing my own thoughts.

I had never dared to dream of becoming the Luna. How could I? I was nothing more than a maid in this pack.

"A–Alpha..." My voice faltered, my breath catching in my chest. Ragnor's crimson eyes bore into me, like seething with disgust, as if the thought of being tied to me was a curse. "I'm... sorry..."

"Just accept it." His command was cold and absolute, devoid of any trace of mercy.

I dared not defy him, though my heart shattered under the weight of his words.

Luna Dowager stepped forward then, her presence as icy and unyielding as her voice. "Valkyrie."

I tilted my head up to meet her gaze, trembling under the intensity of her silent disdain.

"Say the words."

My lips quivered, and I bit down hard, nearly drawing blood. There was no escape from this humiliation. I nodded, my voice barely above a whisper.

"I... Valkyrie of the Blue Fire Pack, accept this rejection."

The words felt like a death sentence, ripping apart every hope I had clung to.

My salvation, my dreams of freedom, of a family, crumbled into dust at my feet.

Instead, I was left with shame, disgrace... and abandonment.

"Now, return to your place," Luna Dowager commanded. I nodded again, my legs trembling beneath me, though I dared to glance at Ragnor.

Why was he so silent?

"Remember your purpose in this pack," she added, her tone sharp as a blade. "To serve me. To heal my son when your wolf awakens."

Her words struck like venom, but I said nothing. She was right. I was an outsider, adopted from a forgotten village, chosen only because of the peculiar ability they claimed I possessed-an ability to heal the madness caused by the Alpha's generative syndrome.

How could I ever forget?

"Yes, Luna," I whispered, stepping back. My knees shook, and my gown snagged under my feet. I stumbled, bracing for the inevitable fall.

But Ragnor caught me.

His hands gripped my arms, steadying me. For a fleeting moment, I felt warmth-a contradiction to the coldness he'd shown moments before.

I looked up at him, searching for something, anything, that might betray his resolve.

But his expression remained unreadable, his crimson eyes locked on mine.

"Don't mistake this for kindness," he muttered under his breath, his tone as cutting as before. Then, he released me, and I staggered back, struggling to stay upright.

A soft murmur rippled through the gathered pack members, their disdain and pity washing over me like a tide I couldn't escape.

My cheeks burned, but I refused to let the tears fall.

"Enough," Luna Dowager barked, silencing the crowd. Her gaze flicked between me and Ragnor, as if she disapproved of his momentary lapse. "Leave her. She knows her place."

Her words were a whip against my pride. I bowed my head, biting back the lump rising in my throat.

"Yes, Luna." My voice was barely audible, but it carried the weight of my defeat.

I turned and walked away, forcing my trembling legs to carry me back to the servant's quarters.

Every step felt like a lifetime, the eyes of the pack burning into my back. My rejection wasn't just a personal humiliation-it was a public spectacle.

When I finally reached the solitude of my room, I shut the door behind me and collapsed onto the narrow cot.

The silence pressed against my ears, broken only by the sound of my own ragged breathing.

I pressed a hand to my chest, willing the ache to subside. "I'll survive this," I whispered to myself, though the words felt hollow.

The door creaked open, and I bolted upright, startled. "Who-?"

"It's your master."

The voice sent a shiver down my spine.

"My... master?" I stammered, standing quickly and rushing toward the door, desperate to confront the owner of that voice.

There she stood-Beta Tasya, tall and imposing, her sharp eyes glinting with fury.

"How dare you claim to be our Alpha's mate?" she spat, her words venomous. Before I could respond, her hand lashed out, the sharp slap searing my cheek.

"Be-Beta... what are you doing?" I gasped, my hand instinctively flying to the stinging mark on my face.

Her eyes narrowed, and she stepped into the room, forcing me to retreat until my back hit the wall. "You think you're worthy of standing by his side? You're nothing. A maid. A stray he should've left to rot."

"I never claimed to be his mate," I whispered, my voice shaking. "It wasn't my choice."

Tasya sneered. "Choice or not, you've humiliated him. Humiliated all of us. The Alpha's mate is supposed to be someone strong, noble-not a lowly servant girl."

I clenched my fists, the insult cutting deep, though I knew better than to argue. "I accepted his rejection," I said quietly, trying to keep my voice steady. "Isn't that enough?"

Her expression hardened, and she leaned closer, her breath hot against my face. "Enough? It will never be enough. You should have rejected him first. Saved him the disgrace of even being tied to someone like you."

I blinked back tears, unwilling to let her see how much her words hurt. "I... I didn't know," I murmured.

"Of course you didn't," Tasya hissed, her voice dripping with disdain. "Because you're ignorant. Useless."

She straightened, her eyes cold and calculating. "Stay out of sight, Valkyrie. If I see you near him again, you'll done!"

With that, she turned and stormed out, slamming the door behind her.

I sat on the cold tile floor of our Upper East Side penthouse, staring at the two pink lines until my vision blurred. After ten years of loving Julian Sterling and three years of a hollow marriage, I finally had the one thing that could bridge the distance between us. I was pregnant. But Julian didn't come home with flowers for our anniversary. He tossed a thick manila envelope onto the marble coffee table with a heavy thud. Fiona, the woman he'd truly loved for years, was back in New York, and he told me our "business deal" was officially over. "Sign it," He said, his voice flat and devoid of emotion. He looked at me with the cold detachment of a man selling a piece of unwanted furniture. When I hesitated, he told me to add a zero to the alimony if the money wasn't enough. I realized in that moment that if he knew about the baby, he wouldn't love me; he would simply take my child and give it to Fiona to raise. I shoved the pregnancy test into my pocket, signed the papers with a shaking hand, and lied through my teeth. When my morning sickness hit, I slumped to the floor to hide the truth. "It's just cramps," I gasped, watching him recoil as if I were contagious. To make him stay away, I invented a man named Jack-a fake boyfriend who supposedly gave me the kindness Julian never could. Suddenly, the man who wanted me gone became a monster of possessiveness. He threatened to "bury" a man who didn't exist while leaving me humiliated at his family's dinner to rush to Fiona's side. I was so broken that I even ate a cake I was deathly allergic to, then had to refuse life-saving steroids at the hospital because they would harm the fetus. Julian thinks he's stalling the divorce for two months to protect the family's reputation for his father's Jubilee. He thinks he's keeping his "property" on a short leash until the press dies down. He has no idea I'm using those sixty days to build a fortress for my child. By the time he realizes the truth, I'll be gone, and the Sterling heir will be far beyond his reach.

I watched my husband sign the papers that would end our marriage while he was busy texting the woman he actually loved. He didn't even glance at the header. He just scribbled the sharp, jagged signature that had signed death warrants for half of New York, tossed the file onto the passenger seat, and tapped his screen again. "Done," he said, his voice devoid of emotion. That was Dante Moretti. The Underboss. A man who could smell a lie from a mile away but couldn't see that his wife had just handed him an annulment decree disguised beneath a stack of mundane logistics reports. For three years, I scrubbed his blood out of his shirts. I saved his family's alliance when his ex, Sofia, ran off with a civilian. In return, he treated me like furniture. He left me in the rain to save Sofia from a broken nail. He left me alone on my birthday to drink champagne on a yacht with her. He even handed me a glass of whiskey—her favorite drink—forgetting that I despised the taste. I was merely a placeholder. A ghost in my own home. So, I stopped waiting. I burned our wedding portrait in the fireplace, left my platinum ring in the ashes, and boarded a one-way flight to San Francisco. I thought I was finally free. I thought I had escaped the cage. But I underestimated Dante. When he finally opened that file weeks later and realized he had signed away his wife without looking, the Reaper didn't accept defeat. He burned down the world to find me, obsessed with reclaiming the woman he had already thrown away.

For four years, I traced the bullet scar on Chace’s chest, believing it was proof he would bleed to keep me safe. On our anniversary, he told me to wear white because "tonight changes everything." I walked into the gala thinking I was getting a ring. Instead, I stood frozen in the center of the ballroom, drowning in silk, watching him slide his mother's sapphire onto another woman's finger. Karyn Warren. The daughter of a rival family. When I begged him with my eyes to claim me, to save me from the public humiliation, he didn't flinch. He just leaned toward his Underboss, his voice amplified by the silence. "Karyn is for power. Ember is for pleasure. Don't confuse the assets." My heart didn't just break; it incinerated. He expected me to stay as his mistress, threatening to dig up my dead mother’s grave if I refused to play the obedient pet. He thought I was trapped. He thought I had nowhere to go because of my father’s massive gambling debts. He was wrong. With shaking hands, I pulled out my phone and texted the one name I was never supposed to use. Keith Mosley. The Don. The monster under Chace's bed. *I am invoking the Blood Oath. My father’s debt. I am ready to pay it.* His reply came three seconds later, buzzing against my palm like a warning. *The price is marriage. You belong to me. Yes or No?* I looked up at Chace, who was laughing with his new fiancée, thinking he owned me. I looked down and typed three letters. *Yes.*

I was finally brought back to the billionaire Vance estate after years in the grimy foster system, but the luxury Lincoln felt more like a funeral procession. My biological family didn't welcome me with open arms; they looked at me like a stain on a silk shirt. They thought I was a "defective" mute with cognitive delays, a spare part to be traded away. Within hours of my arrival, my father decided to sell me to Julian Thorne, a bitter, paralyzed heir, just to secure a corporate merger. My sister Tiffany treated me like trash, whispering for me to "go back to the gutter" before pouring red wine over my dress in front of Manhattan's elite. When a drunk cousin tried to lay hands on me at the engagement gala, my grandmother didn't protect me-she raised her silver-topped cane to strike my face for "embarrassing the family." They called me a sacrificial lamb, laughing as they signed the prenuptial agreement that stripped me of my freedom. They had no idea I was E-11, the underground hacker-artist the world was obsessed with, or that I had already breached their private servers. I found the hidden medical records-blood types A, A, and B-a biological impossibility that proved my "parents" were harboring a scandal that could ruin them. Why bring me back just to discard me again? And why was Julian Thorne, the man supposedly bound to a wheelchair, secretly running miles at dawn on his private estate? Standing in the middle of the ballroom, I didn't plead for mercy. I used a text-to-speech app to broadcast a cold, synthetic threat: "I have the records, Richard. Do you want me to explain genetics to the press, or should we leave quietly?" With the "paralyzed" billionaire as my unexpected accomplice, I walked out of the Vance house and into a much more dangerous game.
