His Despised Bride Chapter 1 The unexpected blow

6:am, Greenville

Collins Pov

"What! No! No way"!

"This is a joke, right...? You... don't mean this." I screamed unbelievably into the phone receiver. The voice at the other end of the receiver came through.

"Yes Collins. I'm sorry it has to end this way" and then the call ended.

The shock was too much for me to bear. I burst into hysterical laughter, feeling a deep stab in my heart.

"Oh no!, I started .

"Haha... that was a...that was the greatest joke I've heard in my life....", I broke off and suddenly felt an itch to scream.

Hitting the mirror in which I stood in front, I rubbed my hair in my hands and impulsively threw a fist at the pitiful image in front of me. The mirror came shattering all over in front of me and I watched blood triple down my battered hands.

I heard a hurried advancement and knew instantly that it was my mum rushing up. She let out a gasp the moment she stepped in and echoed "What have you done, Collins?" She gazed at me, her expression clearly worried.

I tried to respond but couldn't find the proper words, it was as if someone had just tied my tongue and I searched around for something to say. My legs wobbled as I leaned over her shoulders for support, crying out my eyes.

"Anne is joking, right, mum?" I blurted.

Dumbfounded, she disentangled the hug and stared with a demanding face. "What do you mean?"

I felt weak in my knees and suddenly felt helpless. "She has no damn right to do that mum". I banged my swollen hands on the bedside table, making the items on it clatter.

"Get it together boy!" I heard a thunderous voice and my face stood blank. I directed my gaze towards the figure by the door and felt a new surge of anger. How long has this wicked man been standing at the door, observing me with his scrutinizing eyes. I hate to admit that I look so much like him that I often see a younger version of himself in me and my older version in him.

Tightening my fist, my face turned hard.

If only this man wasn't my father, I would throw a fist at his handsome face, I swore.

I completely ignored him and focused on my mum who was cleaning my wound with a tissue.

Then I heard him say "What has come over you? You have to get ready to go pick up your wedding suit with Fred, but he said you'd take a rest, only for you to tear the whole house down. What's the madness about?"

From the corner of my eyes, I saw him tighten his grip on the door handle and I immediately felt disgusted by his presence.

"I won't be needing it" I replied, standing up from my already scattered bed.

What I had just said created an effect, as I saw him squeeze his face in confusion.

"What did you just say?" he demanded, looking doubtfully at me.

I chuckled, enjoying the look on his face. Didn't I look puzzled as well when he suddenly called me years ago and arranged a fiancée for me? I guess it was his turn to dance in shock of what was coming.

I marched towards him and stood directly in front of him with him just a few inches from my face. "Anne just called, and guess what?"

I paused and saw him arch his brows further. "She called off the wedding."

It was like a dropped bombshell, neither of my parents expected it.

"What!" They both screamed, and their eyes popped out as though they'd carefully rehearsed. I was enjoying this as I saw my mum grabbed the bedside for support. I couldn't seem to read my father's face, but I imagined the thoughts running through his dirty mind.

"Unbelievable, right?" I asked, smirking at him.

"Exactly...", I countered, barely above a whisper.

"Exactly how I screamed out of my bed moments ago" I continued, raising my voice. "I was about to lose my mind dad, when I received that goddamn call, canceling our wedding. I never wanted this dad. All I wanted was a chance to choose who I love, but I was never given one".

By now, I was already drenched in my own tears. The tears sprang out without restraint.

"Collins!" Mum called gently, and I thought I heard her sniffle. I glanced at her and averted my gaze quickly to prevent her knowing eyes. She was trying to stop me from this outburst, but hell no, I'm not done yet!

"For your own selfish interest, you forced me into getting closer to Anne, you ensured that I skipped work just so I could be with her. You made me profess love to her even when I didn't mean it, dad, so that you can gain more fame and opportunities through her father's influence. We're one of the top billionaire families with a great reputation, but you never contend with it..."

"Enough Collins, I won't have you speak to me that way" he thundered. His face had grown red and hot as he flinched away the book he was holding.

"But it's the truth dad" I shot back.

I ran my hands through my hair, as all the events came flashing before me. I dashed back and forth in rage, not minding the shattered glasses.

"Anyway, thanks to you Dad," I continued.

"Whether for your own selfish interest or not, you've made me grow fond of Anne, and I've come to love her genuinely, so Dad, you have to fix this else your reputation is down the drain", I swore, stamping my right foot in emphasis.

"I can't withstand this" I blurted and stormed out.

"Young sir, where are you heading?" Fred, my personal assistant, inquired as soon as I descended into the compound. I ignored him completely and marched towards the car. Fred tried to stop me, but I pushed him away roughly and was sorry immediately. I didn't mean to push him though. I was going to see Anne, and would have to deal with anyone who stops me.

The gate opened, and I drove out at full speed, noticing Fred, who drove closely behind me. My dad must have sent him to discover where I was heading. I inhaled hard and said nothing.

I was going crazy, I knew, but I wanted to find Anne and ask for her reasons.

Am I not handsome enough? I pondered and immediately dismissed it. That was a ridiculous thought. I've always been everywhere with my good looks and often hear girls whisper to one another about how hot I look.

Have I done anything wrong to her? Did I say anything wrong the last time we met?

Why would...

I trailed off and closed my eyes for a moment. I opened them and immediately muttered "Holy shit" and swerved away from the road as swiftly as possible. The car screeched as I managed to put it in control.

What the heck was that? I frowned and saw a lady struggling to pick up her scattered belongings.

"God! I almost hit her" I muttered, hurriedly stepping out of the car.

"Hey young lady, sorry for my misdoing. Are you alright...?"

I thought I was waking up in the arms of Arthur, the man I loved. But as the morning light hit the Hamptons estate, the man buttoning his cuffs by the window turned around with eyes like chips of ice. It was Augustus Riddle, Arthur’s cruel younger brother, and I had just spent the night whispering confessions of love into the wrong man's ear. The night I thought was a beautiful beginning turned into a devastating nightmare. Instead of comfort, Gus treated me like a stain on his expensive carpet, scribbling a check for "services rendered" before shoving me into a dark service corridor to hide my existence from his brother. "How much does it cost to buy your silence?" He sneered, before leaving me barefoot in a torrential downpour while he drove away in a luxury Cadillac. Four years later, I am a struggling actress in Los Angeles, working double shifts as a barista just to keep the lights on. My life was finally stable until my roommate dragged me to a high-end dinner to meet her new "influential" boyfriend. The man sitting at the table, looking more arrogant and lethal than ever, was Augustus. He spent the entire night humiliating me, calling me a pathetic amateur and a social climber in front of my only friends. When I fled into the rain and collapsed on the sidewalk, skinning my knee until I bled, he watched from his car. He saw me clutching a plastic baggie containing the taped-together pieces of that four-year-old check—the only proof of my shame. He looked at me like roadkill, rolled up his window, and drove off into the dark. I couldn't understand why he was doing this. Why did he hate me enough to crush me, yet remember that I couldn't handle the smell of cigarette smoke? Why did he leave me bleeding in the street, only to send expensive medical supplies and coffee to my door the very next morning? "I'm moving out." I told my roommates, realizing that Gus Riddle didn't just want to destroy me; he wanted to haunt me. I grabbed my suitcase and walked out with eighty dollars to my name, finally ready to disappear into the city before he could burn the rest of my life to the ground.

I arrived at the hotel with Julian's favorite takeout, ready to surprise my fiancé before our big merger. But the moment I swiped the keycard, the silence of the hallway felt heavy and wrong. Inside, a red-soled stiletto lay on the marble floor-the same one I'd watched my best friend Lila try on at Saks last week. Through the cracked bedroom door, I watched Julian's back arch as Lila looked me straight in the eye and smiled, wrapping her legs tighter around him to mock my heartbreak. I fled to the penthouse to hide, only to find Grafton, Julian's "crippled" brother, waiting in the dark. To my horror, the man who was supposed to be paralyzed stood up from his wheelchair, gripped my chin with cold fingers, and forced me to sign a contract that gave him control of my family's shares. He knew about my mother's secret medical bills and used them to buy my silence, effectively turning my life into a calculated game of corporate chess. The betrayal tasted like acid, and the injustice of it all burned in my throat. My fiancé was a liar, my best friend was a thief, and the man now controlling my fate was a predator who had been faking his disability for years. I couldn't understand how everyone I trusted had turned out to be a monster. I was trapped between a man who cheated on me and a man who wanted to own me, with no way out and no one to turn to. But when Julian came looking for me, Grafton didn't hide; he stood tall, looming over me with a possessive glint in his eyes. "Help me destroy Julian," I rasped, realizing that to survive the Faulkner men, I had to become the most dangerous player of them all.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband's Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn't find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn't even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father's legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn's party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara's health and managing every detail of Caden's empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I'd drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause-if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I'd forgotten.

I arrived at my uncle’s mansion looking like human trash, clutching a one-way bus ticket and a duffel bag stuffed with old newspaper. My aunt looked at me with pure disgust, as if she could smell the poverty on my skin, but they needed me for one thing: to be a sacrificial lamb. They told me I was getting married to Julian Sterling, a man the elite circles called a violent monster locked in a cage. My uncle forced me to sign away my soul to save their failing fortune, while my cousin Kayla laughed and threw a torn dress at my feet, calling me a "rat from the Rust Belt." At the Sterling estate, the nightmare only deepened. Julian’s stepmother treated me like a horse she was forced to buy, ordering the staff to "burn off" my hair before locking me in the West Wing. I was thrown into a padded cell with a man who lunged at me, his heavy chains rattling against the floor as he roared with an animalistic rage that had already killed two nurses. They thought I was a pathetic, uneducated girl who "didn't read so good." They didn't know I had extorted two million dollars from my uncle before walking out the door, or that I was secretly recording every slap and insult they threw at me for future leverage. I huddled in the corner of that dark cell, letting them watch me tremble on the security feeds. I let Julian’s sister strike me with a riding crop and splash water in my face, playing the role of the clumsy, sobbing idiot to perfection. But the moment the cameras looped, the scared girl vanished. I pinned the "monster" to the floor, cut the neural tracking chip out of his neck with a hidden scalpel, and whispered into his ear as his blue eyes finally cleared. They thought they were sending a lamb to the slaughter. They had no idea they were sending a wolf to hunt a beast.
