An emotional journey that will capture you from the very beginning and won't let you go until the last word.

Chapter 1 The Discovery

Ana had started the day as usual. A cup of strong black coffee, with the exact flavor that woke her up every morning. She had checked her emails, with nothing urgent to pull her out of her comfort zone, and then tidied up her room as an automatic act. Her routines were predictable, safe, and in her world, everything aligned with the peace she desired. It was a day like any other, and as always, she felt in control of her life. But the afternoon came, and with it, a rupture that would change everything.

Nothing, not even the smallest sign, could have prepared her for what she was about to discover.

That night, after a long day at work, Ana headed to her apartment. The fatigue was noticeable in her steps, and her thoughts were already drifting toward the little everyday things waiting for her at home: dinner, a relaxing shower, maybe reading a bit before sleep. When she arrived at the door of her apartment, something strange stopped her. It was ajar. The door had always been locked by Javier, her boyfriend. Over the years, this routine had been unbreakable, a habit they both shared to feel safer. But today, that habit had been broken without warning, and something inside her warned her that it wasn't just a coincidence.

With a mix of uncertainty and a small spark of anxiety, she pushed the door open. At first, the apartment seemed calm. The soft lighting, the long shadows of the afternoon, and the muffled sound of the wind passing through the window slats. However, as she moved down the hallway, a sound caught her attention. Soft laughter, hushed murmurs. This was unusual, and her mind started to race as her steps slowed. The bad omen grew inside her like a thick fog, invading every corner of her consciousness.

She approached the bedroom cautiously, not knowing what to expect but fearing the worst. When she opened the door, it was as if the world vanished around her, leaving her suspended in the air, unable to move a muscle. There they were, Javier and Clara, her best friend, naked and entwined in bed. The scene seemed straight out of a nightmare, one Ana could never have imagined living through. She couldn't process it, couldn't understand how it had come to this point, how something so devastating could have happened in her own home, in her own refuge.

The silence was immediate, dense, unbearable. The laughter stopped, the murmurs ceased. Javier looked at her, his eyes wide open, filled with surprise and, for some reason, guilt. Clara, upon realizing her presence, instantly paled, her eyes widened, and a mix of panic and shame crossed her face. Ana stood there, paralyzed, watching the scene as the pain washed over her like a wave she couldn't stop. There was no room for explanations, no space for the "I'm sorry's" that were already starting to spill from Javier's mouth. The physical and emotional pain, all that she had never imagined feeling, hit her with a force that almost brought her to the ground.

Javier quickly jumped out of bed, as if merely being naked in front of her was a greater sin. He tried to cover himself, but he couldn't hide the guilt reflected on his face. His voice sounded trembling, empty of justification, but still, he tried to make her understand.

- "Baby!" -he shouted desperately, extending his hands toward her in an attempt to approach. But Ana stepped back, as though just being near him could contaminate her.

- "Please, I can explain, my love." -he continued, his voice breaking as he tried to find words that could repair the irreparable. But at that moment, Ana didn't listen. She was trapped in a bubble of disbelief and pain, where the sound of his voice was just noise, devoid of meaning.

Tears began to fall down her face, though she couldn't tell if they were from anger, pain, or confusion. Her mind couldn't process the magnitude of what she was seeing, and her body felt as if it were floating outside of herself. She closed her eyes for a moment, searching for a sliver of calm, a breath to think clearly, but nothing could relieve the suffering that gripped her chest. Every beat of her heart reminded her that everything she knew, everything she had believed, no longer existed. The world she built with Javier had collapsed before her eyes, and there was no turning back.

- "What do you want to explain?" -she managed to articulate. Her voice was a broken whisper, trembling. Anger was starting to replace the pain, and though the tears kept falling, they no longer mattered. Her eyes shone with contained fury, but also with an aching exhaustion. - "How can you explain to me that you told me you had a business meeting while you were in bed with my best friend? Is that what you have to explain?"

The words were like knives, and she felt each one of them pierce her soul. But despite everything, something inside her kept her anchored to the moment. She needed to hear, she needed to understand. Maybe, somewhere deep inside, she still hoped that the explanation would be something she could process. However, something told her that nothing could be explained anymore. Everything she knew about her relationship, about the promises they had made, had evaporated in that instant, like a lie that had never existed.

Clara, unable to look Ana in the eye, got out of bed, her movements clumsy and filled with a shame that Ana had never witnessed in her friend. Ana felt the betrayal on her skin, in her bones. It was as if the air were thick with poison, a poison that burned her from the inside. She couldn't look away, but she didn't want to keep seeing either. She didn't know if she wanted to scream, run, or simply vanish.

Javier, seeing Ana's reaction, tried to take a step toward her, but something in Ana's attitude stopped him. She raised a hand, not in fear, but with a firmness that even surprised herself. She wasn't going to listen to any more lies, she wasn't going to accept any excuses. The truth no longer mattered; all she had left was the decision of how to move forward.

The sound of her breathing became the only noise in the room. She turned slowly, not saying another word, and left the room. She didn't need answers, she didn't need explanations. The pain of the betrayal was too fresh, and her mind could only think of escaping that nightmare. The world had changed forever.

And as she walked down the hallway, tears fell silently. But, unlike before, they were no longer tears of confusion. They were tears of loss.

I sat in the gray, airless room of the New York State Department of Corrections, my knuckles white as the Warden delivered the news. "Parole denied." My father, Howard Sterling, had forged new evidence of financial crimes to keep me behind bars. He walked into the room, smelling of expensive cologne, and tossed a black folder onto the steel table. It was a marriage contract for Lucas Kensington, a billionaire currently lying in a vegetative state in the ICU. "Sign it. You walk out today." I laughed at the idea of being sold to a "corpse" until Howard slid a grainy photo toward me. It showed a toddler with a crescent-moon birthmark—the son Howard told me had died in an incubator five years ago. He smiled and told me the boy's safety depended entirely on my cooperation. I was thrust into the Kensington estate, where the family treated me like a "drowned rat." They dressed me in mothball-scented rags and mocked my status, unaware that I was monitoring their every move. I watched the cousin, Julian, openly waiting for Lucas to die to inherit the empire, while the doctors prepared to sign the death certificate. I didn't understand why my father would lie about my son’s death for years, or what kind of monsters would use a child as a bargaining chip. The injustice of it burned in my chest as I realized I was just a pawn in a game of old money and blood. As the monitors began to flatline and the family started to celebrate their inheritance, I locked the door and reached into the hem of my dress. I pulled out the sharpened silver wires I’d fashioned in the prison workshop. They thought they bought a submissive convict, but they actually invited "The Saint"—the world’s most dangerous underground surgeon—into their home. "Wake up, Lucas. You owe me a life." I wasn't there to be a bride; I was there to wake the dead and burn their empire to the ground.

I was finally brought back to the billionaire Vance estate after years in the grimy foster system, but the luxury Lincoln felt more like a funeral procession. My biological family didn't welcome me with open arms; they looked at me like a stain on a silk shirt. They thought I was a "defective" mute with cognitive delays, a spare part to be traded away. Within hours of my arrival, my father decided to sell me to Julian Thorne, a bitter, paralyzed heir, just to secure a corporate merger. My sister Tiffany treated me like trash, whispering for me to "go back to the gutter" before pouring red wine over my dress in front of Manhattan's elite. When a drunk cousin tried to lay hands on me at the engagement gala, my grandmother didn't protect me-she raised her silver-topped cane to strike my face for "embarrassing the family." They called me a sacrificial lamb, laughing as they signed the prenuptial agreement that stripped me of my freedom. They had no idea I was E-11, the underground hacker-artist the world was obsessed with, or that I had already breached their private servers. I found the hidden medical records-blood types A, A, and B-a biological impossibility that proved my "parents" were harboring a scandal that could ruin them. Why bring me back just to discard me again? And why was Julian Thorne, the man supposedly bound to a wheelchair, secretly running miles at dawn on his private estate? Standing in the middle of the ballroom, I didn't plead for mercy. I used a text-to-speech app to broadcast a cold, synthetic threat: "I have the records, Richard. Do you want me to explain genetics to the press, or should we leave quietly?" With the "paralyzed" billionaire as my unexpected accomplice, I walked out of the Vance house and into a much more dangerous game.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.

Rain hammered against the asphalt as my sedan spun violently into the guardrail on the I-95. Blood trickled down my temple, stinging my eyes, while the rhythmic slap of the windshield wipers mocked my panic. Trembling, I dialed my husband, Clive. His executive assistant answered instead, his voice professional and utterly cold. "Mr. Wilson says to stop the theatrics. He said, and I quote, 'Hang up. Tell her I don’t have time for her emotional blackmail tonight.'" The line went dead while I was still trapped in the wreckage. At the hospital, I watched the news footage of Clive wrapping his jacket around his "fragile" ex-girlfriend, Angelena, shielding her from the storm I was currently bleeding in. When I returned to our penthouse, I found a prenatal ultrasound in his suit pocket, dated the day he claimed to be on a business trip. Instead of an apology, Clive met me with a sneer. He told me I was nothing but an "expensive decoration" his father bought to make him look stable. He froze my bank accounts and cut off my cards, waiting for the hunger to drive me back to his feet. I stared at the man I had loved for four years, realizing he didn't just want a wife; he wanted a prop he could switch off. He thought he could starve me into submission while he played father to another woman's child. But Clive forgot one thing. Before I was his trophy wife, I was Starfall—the legendary voice actress who vanished at the height of her fame. "I'm not jealous, Clive. I'm done." I grabbed my old microphone and walked out. I’m not just leaving him; I’m taking the lead role in the biggest saga in Hollywood—the one Angelena is desperate for. This time, the "decoration" is going to burn his world down.
