BILLIONAIRE'S HIDDEN WIFE Chapter 1 THE ESCAPE.

CHAPTER 1: THE ESCAPE.

The towering skyline of Ravengold City shimmered under the moonlit sky, a beacon of wealth and ambition. The streets below pulsed with energy-luxury cars gliding past, high-end restaurants brimming with the elite, and the distant hum of nightlife filling the air.

Kareem Al-Fayeed stood on the rooftop balcony of the grand Al-Fayeed estate, nursing a glass of whiskey. Below him, in the grand ballroom, a gala was in full swing-an event hosted by his parents to celebrate the legacy of Al-Fayeed Designs. But Kareem knew the real reason behind tonight's gathering.

He was about to be caged.

His father, Samir Al-Fayeed, had made it clear-no marriage, no inheritance. The billion-dollar fashion empire would go to someone else if Kareem didn't find a wife.

Kareem scoffed, swirling his drink. Marriage? He had spent his life avoiding commitment, indulging in casual flings, living life on his own terms. And now, because of his father's outdated traditions, he was expected to settle down.

The worst part? He had no way out.

A familiar voice pulled him from his thoughts.

"Kareem, you look like a man planning an escape."

He turned to see Victor, his best friend, smirking as he leaned against the balcony railing.

"I might be," Kareem admitted.

Victor chuckled. "Don't tell me your dad finally backed you into a corner."

Kareem exhaled. "It's worse. He expects me to pick a wife from this damn party."

Victor's grin widened. "And here I thought you had a way with women."

Kareem smirked but said nothing. He had a habit-whenever he passed a beautiful woman, he counted to three under his breath. One... two... three... and by then, he was usually already interested. But lately, even that trick wasn't working.

Victor clapped him on the back. "You're screwed, my friend."

Kareem rolled his eyes. "Not if I find a way out first."

With that, he set his glass down and disappeared into the shadows of the estate, determined to avoid his fate.

Meanwhile, Across the City...

On the other side of Ravengold City, in a modest neighborhood far from the glamour of the Al-Fayeeds, Ayshe Yılmaz paced her small bedroom, her heart pounding.

Downstairs, her family was preparing for Sabri's arrival. The man they expected her to marry.

Her mother, Selma, had been adamant-Sabri was a good match. He came from a well-off family, had a stable job, and, most importantly, he was interested in Ayshe.

But Ayshe wasn't interested in him.

"I'm not doing this," she muttered under her breath.

Her older brother, Hamza, had made it clear that she had no say in the matter. After all, her last relationship had ended in humiliation. Kerem, the man she had once loved, had walked away the moment he saw her with another man-never bothering to hear the truth.

Ayshe clenched her fists. She wouldn't let herself be controlled again.

Then, a knock at the door sent a shiver down her spine.

Sabri was here.

Without a second thought, Ayshe grabbed her coat, pushed open her bedroom window, and climbed out into the night.

---

Ayshe ran through the city streets, her breath visible in the cold night air. She didn't stop until she reached the one place where she always felt safe-her office at Al-Fayeed Designs.

The building was mostly empty this late, and as she entered, she let out a shaky breath.

She just needed time. Time to think, time to figure out her next move.

But as she turned a corner, she collided with something solid.

No-someone.

Strong hands caught her, steadying her. She looked up, her heart still racing, and met the sharp hazel eyes of Kareem Al-Fayeed.

For a moment, the world stood still.

Kareem's gaze swept over her, curiosity flickering across his face. "In a hurry?" he asked, a smirk playing on his lips.

Ayshe swallowed hard. "I... I just needed some air."

He raised an eyebrow. "You look like you're running from something."

She hesitated, then exhaled. "I am."

Kareem chuckled. "Funny. So am I."

Ayshe blinked. She had expected indifference, maybe even annoyance, but not this-this strange sense of understanding between them.

He leaned against the wall, studying her. "Let me guess. Arranged marriage?"

Her eyes widened. "How did you-"

"I've been in your shoes," he said, his voice laced with amusement. "I know the look."

Ayshe crossed her arms. "And what are you doing here, then?"

"Hiding," he admitted. "My father thinks marriage is the key to my future."

Ayshe let out a humorless laugh. "Sounds familiar."

A comfortable silence settled between them.

Then, as if struck by an idea, Ayshe looked up at him.

"What if..." she began, choosing her words carefully. "What if we helped each other?"

Kareem narrowed his eyes. "Go on."

"You need a wife to inherit the company. I need to get my family off my back." She met his gaze. "What if we got married?"

Kareem tilted his head, amusement flickering in his eyes. "A contract marriage?"

"Exactly."

He exhaled, running a hand through his hair. "You know, this might be the craziest idea I've ever heard."

Ayshe lifted her chin. "So... yes or no?"

A slow smirk curved his lips. "Alright, Ayshe. You've got yourself a deal."

As their hands met in a firm handshake, neither of them realized that this deal would change everything.

I had just survived a private jet crash, my body a map of violet bruises and my lungs still burning from the smoke. I woke up in a sterile hospital room, gasping for my husband's name, only to realize I was completely alone. While I was bleeding in a ditch, my husband, Adam, was on the news smiling at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. When I tracked him down at the hospital's VIP wing, I didn't find a grieving husband. I found him tenderly cradling his ex-girlfriend, Casie, in his arms, his face lit with a protective warmth he had never shown me as he carried her into the maternity ward. The betrayal went deeper than I could have imagined. Adam admitted the affair started on our third anniversary-the night he claimed he was stuck in London for a merger. Back at the manor, his mother had already filled our planned nursery with pink boutique bags for Casie's "little princess." When I demanded a divorce, Adam didn't flinch. He sneered that I was "gutter trash" from a foster home and that I'd be begging on the streets within a week. To trap me, he froze my bank accounts, cancelled my flight, and even called the police to report me for "theft" of company property. I realized then that I wasn't his partner; I was a charity case he had plucked from obscurity to manage his life. To the Hortons, I was just a servant who happened to sleep in the master bedroom, a "resilient" woman meant to endure his abuse in silence while the whole world laughed at the joke that was my marriage. Adam thought stripping me of his money would make me crawl back to him. He was wrong. I walked into his executive suite during his biggest deal of the year and poured a mug of sludge over his original ten-million-dollar contracts. Then, right in front of his board and his mistress, I stripped off every designer thread he had ever paid for until I was standing in nothing but my own silk camisole. "You can keep the clothes, Adam. They're as hollow as you are." I grabbed my passport, turned my back on his billions, and walked out of that glass tower barefoot, bleeding, and finally free.

The heavy thud of the release stamp was the only goodbye I got from the warden after five years in federal prison. I stepped out into the blinding sun, expecting the same flash of paparazzi bulbs that had seen me dragged away in handcuffs, but there was only a single black limousine idling on the shoulder of the road. Inside sat my mother and sister, clutching champagne and looking at my frayed coat with pure disgust. They didn't offer a welcome home; instead, they tossed a thick legal document onto the table and told me I was dead to the city. "Gavin and I are getting engaged," my sister Mia sneered, flicking a credit card at me like I was a stray dog. "He doesn't need a convict ex-fiancée hanging around." Even after I saved their lives from an armed kidnapping attempt by ramming the attackers off the road, they rewarded me by leaving me stranded in the dirt. When I finally ran into Gavin, the man who had framed me, he pinned me against a wall and threatened to send me back to a cell if I ever dared to show my face at their wedding. They had stolen my biotech research, ruined my name, and let me rot for half a decade while they lived off my brilliance. They thought they had broken me, leaving me with nothing but an expired chapstick and a few old photos in a plastic bag. What they didn't know was that I had spent those five years becoming "Dr. X," a shadow consultant with five hundred million dollars in crypto and a secret that would bring the city to its knees. I wasn't just a victim anymore; I was a weapon, and I was pregnant with the heir they thought they had erased. I walked into the Melton estate and made an offer to the most powerful man in New York. "I'll save your grandfather's life," I told Horatio Melton, staring him down. "But the price is your last name. I'm taking back what's mine, and I'm starting with the man who thinks he's marrying my sister."

I was the titan of Wall Street until an indictment and an ankle monitor turned my penthouse into a gilded cage. To save face, I was forced into a marriage with Elza, a "mute" girl from the Schmidt family whom I treated as nothing more than a silent piece of furniture while my empire crumbled. The night I was poisoned at a high-society gala, a mysterious server in an oversized uniform saved my life with terrifying, clinical precision. They disappeared into the night, leaving me with a silver cufflink and a burning obsession to find the shadow who held my life in their hands. Back home, I took my frustration out on Elza, telling her she was "exhausting to look at" and "smelled like sickness" after her charity visits. Her own family treated her like a stray dog, trying to humiliate her at the next gala by dressing her in what they claimed was a cheap knockoff while whispering to the press that she was nothing but a high-end escort. "Stay out of my way," I would growl at her, never noticing the steel in her eyes. I sat at my table, watching my rivals' stocks plummet and wondering who "The Zero"—the legendary financial ghost—really was. I never suspected that the woman I ignored was the same one solving the equations that were currently burning Manhattan to the ground. The injustice peaked when Elza stood before the city's elite, not as a victim, but as a queen. She dropped over a hundred million dollars to buy back her family’s legacy, revealing a secret fortune that made my own empire look like pocket change. As I grabbed her wrist and saw the small red mole hidden beneath her watch, the truth hit me like a physical blow. The silent wife I had despised was the savior I had been hunting, and she was finally done playing the victim. "We have a lot to talk about, wife," I whispered, realizing I had been sleeping next to the most dangerous woman in the world.

I stood at my mother’s open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest’s voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone—he brought Charla with him. He claimed she’d had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.
