Three years of marriage couldn't melt Theo's frozen heart. When an art gallery collapsed on Lena, he was off romancing another woman-lavishing her with a private jet. Three steel pins held Lena's shoulder together, but her heart remained broken. She filed for divorce and told everyone that he was impotent. Rising from the rubble, Lena blazed onto the design world's A‑list. She expected him to sail off with his true love-until Theo reappeared at her runway, pressing her against the wall. "Impotent, huh? Care to give it a try?"

Married, Divorced, Desired Again Chapter 1 He's Probably Too Tied Up

"Lena, your husband still hasn't answered your calls, has he?" Maia Gordon asked with concern.

Lena Dixon detected her colleague's unspoken pity.

Each unanswered ring seemed to hollow her out further, dragging Lena deeper into the bleak realization.

Just two days ago, Lena had visited an art gallery to oversee preparations for her husband's upcoming exhibit. Without warning, the ceiling had collapsed, leaving her trapped beneath debris for agonizing hours, desperately calling her husband Theo Haynes without response.

When rescuers finally freed her, she was drenched in her own blood, her shoulder shattered so gravely it required metal screws to hold it together. Even now, every beat of her heart echoed painfully in her wounded shoulder.

Lena stared at the dark screen of her phone. Her face looked ghostly pale, fingers trembling uncontrollably from lingering trauma.

But the deepest pain wasn't from her physical injuries. It came from the icy realization stabbing through her heart.

Whenever Lena desperately needed Theo, he always vanished.

Witnessing Lena's quiet suffering, Maia couldn't hold back her frustration. "What's wrong with your husband, anyway? You could've died, yet he can't even call you back after two days? You're getting discharged, and he is yet to show up. You might as well be single at this rate."

With quiet sarcasm, Lena murmured, "He's probably too tied up."

Theo always used work as a shield-too occupied, always unavailable.

Three years spent married to him, and all Lena had gained was an empty title, one she clung to foolishly.

Maia's tone sharpened. "Too tied up to even answer his phone? That's not busy-that's cold-hearted."

Her words sliced Lena deeply, cutting through the last remnants of her illusions.

Lena swallowed her bitterness, forcing a smile far more painful than tears.

Suddenly, Maia gasped, her eyes widening at something on her phone. "Oh, wow. Lena, look-seems like the ever-elusive Mr. Haynes took an international flight just to attend his girl's art exhibition. Dropped everything just for her."

A chill clawed up Lena's spine.

Maia handed over the phone, openly scoffing, "Take a good look at Mr. Haynes. Compare him with your husband. You nearly died, and your husband didn't even care to answer a single call. Lena, why are you still holding onto someone like him?"

Lena stared wordlessly, frozen by the screen's glow.

Maia had no idea-the Mr. Haynes she spoke of was Lena's cold-hearted husband.

At that instant, Lena's carefully crafted delusions shattered. Theo's supposed business trip was a total lie. He had traveled halfway around the world for his first love, Violet Ford.

Back then, Theo and Violet had seemed destined to marry.

Then a car crash robbed Theo of his sight, and Violet fled abroad, leaving him at his most vulnerable.

During his darkest days, Lena remained faithfully beside him. Everyone mocked her loyalty, but she ignored their ridicule, believing her devotion would someday earn her Theo's genuine affection.

After regaining his eyesight, Theo had offered her nothing but a marriage of convenience.

As she looked now at the warm affection in Theo's eyes as he greeted Violet at the airport, Lena's stomach twisted painfully.

"Romance Confirmed? Haynes Group CEO Welcomes Artist Vee at Airport."

Reading the headline destroyed Lena's last fragment of hope.

Artist Vee, whose exhibition Lena had painstakingly organized, was none other than Violet herself.

All along, Lena had organized an event for Theo's true love, and it nearly cost her her own life.

While she had been trapped and scared under the rubble, Theo had met Violet, reigniting their lost flame. Lena felt as if the knife in her heart had twisted deeper.

Oblivious to Lena's reaction, Maia commented on the photo. "Look at his expression-so gentle and warm. I heard they were college sweethearts. Maybe they've finally found their way back together. They really look perfect together."

Quietly and bitterly, Lena laughed. "You're right-they're perfect."

She handed back Maia's phone without another word, then quietly left, heading home.

...

Theo didn't return home until long past midnight.

As soon as he stepped inside, an unfamiliar irritation rose within him.

Usually, Lena left a welcoming glow, no matter how late he returned. But darkness now blanketed the house, creating a sense of emptiness.

Bothered by the unusual atmosphere, Theo climbed the stairs and entered the master bedroom.

In the dim moonlight, Lena's small frame lay curled beneath the sheets.

The instant the door creaked, Lena opened her eyes, wide awake.

An unfamiliar scent filled the air, sweetly pungent perfume she didn't recognize. She guessed it was Violet's.

A burning pain surged through Lena's chest. Thankfully, darkness masked her distress.

Theo lay down beside her. Quietly, Lena reached for him, slipping her hand beneath his shirt.

She traced his warm abdomen, moving downward, lower still.

Theo's breath hitched sharply. Abruptly, he grabbed her wrist, voice tight with tension. "What are you trying to do, Lena?"

I thought I was waking up in the arms of Arthur, the man I loved. But as the morning light hit the Hamptons estate, the man buttoning his cuffs by the window turned around with eyes like chips of ice. It was Augustus Riddle, Arthur’s cruel younger brother, and I had just spent the night whispering confessions of love into the wrong man's ear. The night I thought was a beautiful beginning turned into a devastating nightmare. Instead of comfort, Gus treated me like a stain on his expensive carpet, scribbling a check for "services rendered" before shoving me into a dark service corridor to hide my existence from his brother. "How much does it cost to buy your silence?" He sneered, before leaving me barefoot in a torrential downpour while he drove away in a luxury Cadillac. Four years later, I am a struggling actress in Los Angeles, working double shifts as a barista just to keep the lights on. My life was finally stable until my roommate dragged me to a high-end dinner to meet her new "influential" boyfriend. The man sitting at the table, looking more arrogant and lethal than ever, was Augustus. He spent the entire night humiliating me, calling me a pathetic amateur and a social climber in front of my only friends. When I fled into the rain and collapsed on the sidewalk, skinning my knee until I bled, he watched from his car. He saw me clutching a plastic baggie containing the taped-together pieces of that four-year-old check—the only proof of my shame. He looked at me like roadkill, rolled up his window, and drove off into the dark. I couldn't understand why he was doing this. Why did he hate me enough to crush me, yet remember that I couldn't handle the smell of cigarette smoke? Why did he leave me bleeding in the street, only to send expensive medical supplies and coffee to my door the very next morning? "I'm moving out." I told my roommates, realizing that Gus Riddle didn't just want to destroy me; he wanted to haunt me. I grabbed my suitcase and walked out with eighty dollars to my name, finally ready to disappear into the city before he could burn the rest of my life to the ground.

I was the titan of Wall Street until an indictment and an ankle monitor turned my penthouse into a gilded cage. To save face, I was forced into a marriage with Elza, a "mute" girl from the Schmidt family whom I treated as nothing more than a silent piece of furniture while my empire crumbled. The night I was poisoned at a high-society gala, a mysterious server in an oversized uniform saved my life with terrifying, clinical precision. They disappeared into the night, leaving me with a silver cufflink and a burning obsession to find the shadow who held my life in their hands. Back home, I took my frustration out on Elza, telling her she was "exhausting to look at" and "smelled like sickness" after her charity visits. Her own family treated her like a stray dog, trying to humiliate her at the next gala by dressing her in what they claimed was a cheap knockoff while whispering to the press that she was nothing but a high-end escort. "Stay out of my way," I would growl at her, never noticing the steel in her eyes. I sat at my table, watching my rivals' stocks plummet and wondering who "The Zero"—the legendary financial ghost—really was. I never suspected that the woman I ignored was the same one solving the equations that were currently burning Manhattan to the ground. The injustice peaked when Elza stood before the city's elite, not as a victim, but as a queen. She dropped over a hundred million dollars to buy back her family’s legacy, revealing a secret fortune that made my own empire look like pocket change. As I grabbed her wrist and saw the small red mole hidden beneath her watch, the truth hit me like a physical blow. The silent wife I had despised was the savior I had been hunting, and she was finally done playing the victim. "We have a lot to talk about, wife," I whispered, realizing I had been sleeping next to the most dangerous woman in the world.
