Chapter 1 1

Dominic Knight walk out of the party, rather than get into the black car parked in front of him, he bring out a cigarette and light it up.

As he is about to take a smoke, he sense her luscious scent as she appear behind him, a scent that reminiscent of warm honey, dripping with golden goodness and drop the cigarette.

"Let's go" his stoic voice said, not glancing at her and he enter into the car.

Bellamy, his secretary, nod her head and get into the front seat while the car drives out. Silence fall upon the car as they head to his penthouse.

"The Barrett sign the contract" Bellamy inform as her phone chimes.

Dominic nod his head plainly, a distant look in his unfeeling eyes. He rest his fingers on his temple trying not to lose it as her scent seem strong today than usual.

Three years of working with her, he has learn to suppress it after finding out it's not some tactic of hers to seduce him like others before her.

He was baffled at how a human could have such strong intoxicating scent but he has gotten used to it. However, this night, he feel a bit sensitive.

The car stop and Bellamy did not hesitate to unbuckle to get out but his voice stop her and she turn back to meet his gaze. He orders the driver out of the car and Belle feel a bit perplexed wondering what he is about to say to her.

"I have a deal for you" he said.

For thirty years of his life, she is the only woman he has been able to tolerate this long which makes her perfect for the job.

'What is it Sir?" Bellamy asked, holding her breathe as she waits.

"I need you to bear my child" he said, his eyes keeping her under survey.

Bellamy stare at him dumbstruck and eyes widen at him."What?" She let out after minutes not sure she heard that right.

Dominic keep his gaze on her unwavering, perhaps he should explain better seeing how shock she is.

"For five million dollars" he adds and Bellamy gulped down anxiously, seeing he is not kidding.

"I'm sorry Mr. Knight but I can't" she let out, hoping he won't be upset.

"I am getting married tomorrow" she reveal and a bit of a frown appear on his forehead but disappears quickly.

His eyes look restrain at her not sure if he should believe that, he has been working her to her bone for the past three years.

How on earth did she have the time to date? His eyes dash to her fingers and he sees a ring.

"You can go" he said dismissively and Bellamy did not hesitate, the car drives away as she glance at it still trying to process what on earth just happened.

".... bear my child..."

The words of her Boss chimes into her head again and Bellamy shudder feeling a rush of smoldering shiver.

She try to shake her mind off of it and focus on walking down the aisle not minding the rumbling sound in her stomach. Her cell phone chimes from her purse and she walk away from the mirror she has been standing for five minutes now to grab it.

As Belle slid it open, different pictures of her soon-to-be husband, Gabriel and Sophia, her cousin flows in all sorts of disgusting poses.

She is head blank for few seconds but recover and pull the veil down her head and proceed inside the hall where many guests are seated waiting for the bride.

Bellamy drag her dress as she walk down the aisle without a veil or bouquet looking fierce as she approach her groom, Gabriel Thompson frowns deeply seeing her approach in such manner. He approach her quickly wondering what she is doing.

"This wedding is off"

Belle spurt with a resolute tone and pull out the oversize ring that Gabriel has given to engage her without wasting a second, thrusting it at him.

Color drains from Gabriel's face as the ring hits his chest, he glare angrily at Bellamy not because she has just ended their relationship but because she has embarrassed him in front of so many people.

"You should have done this before the wedding" he move aggressively close and grab her arm, hurting her.

Belle try not to squeeze her face at the pain and push him off, freeing herself from his crazy act, he does not even seem bothered to know why she has ended their wedding.

It makes sense since they are never really in love, it is an arrangement by her parents but then she did not expect them to him to be such a douchebag.

"What are you doing Bellamy?" Rachel Brooks, her mother rush to them, eyeing the guests who are all on their feet, staring keenly at them and murmuring.

The rest of the family also move close to access the situation not sure what is going on, Mrs. Thompson in particular has a nasty countenance as she approach Bellamy

"What kind of dumb game are you playing girl? Trying to disgrace my family?" she asked, pushing Belle not caring if she falls.

"Please hold on everyone, I'm sure Belle has a good explanation for this" Sophia Martin walks up and everyone seem to part way for her like she is some crowned princess.

Belle could see it well now, she is never the one intended for Gabriel. The precious Sophia is who everyone loves including Gabriel.

How could she be so dumb?

"Belle, I know you are being anxious right now, it's normal when one is about to get married" Sophia said with her usual smile on her lips but it looks like a mocking smug to Belle now.

"I am not anxious and I know exactly what I am doing" she withdraw away giving herself space from everyone of them feeling suffocated by just gazing at them.

"If you want to know why I am doing this, I think it is best to ask Gabriel about his secret affair with Sophia" Belle blurt not sugarcoating anything.

Everyone make a pretense shock expression but she could see it is not genuine, she has been a secretary to a powerful corporation for three years and could easily see through their false expression

"What are you talking about?" Gabriel exclaim and Belle scoff angrily.

"I mean your little trip to Kansas, I receive pictures of you and Sophia being cozy with each other" Belle throw at him and he stare confounded for a second.

It seem he did not want her to find out about this but too bad she did just before she walk the aisle with him.

"I can explain that, it's just... it meant nothing" he stutter not sure what explanation to give.

Sophia's face turn bitter at Gabriel's choice of their relationship and she quickly take charge of the situation.

"I am sorry Belle but you kept putting him off and he was lonely, I was only doing you a favour" Sophia finish the last sentence with a smirk and Belle realize she must have been the one who has sent her the pictures.

Gabriel grunt feeling frustrated but not a bit remorse about what he has done, the rest of the family does not seem to blame then either but turn to her instead.

"You can't blame your cousin, she only tried to fill in for your shortcoming" her mother, Rachel said with no shame and Belle squint feeling astound by her words.

"That's right, if you haven't been too busy to care about my son's need, Sophia wouldn't have step up and do it" Mrs. Thompson adds.

Belle stare at everyone of them in disbelief, they are not even pretending to reprimand Sophia but blaming her for their cheat.

"You should count yourself lucky that my son agrees to marry an adopted daughter like you, so if you know what's best for you, apologize right now" Mrs. Thompson demands sternly.

"Just apologize to Gabriel and Sophia, then the wedding can go on" her mother adds, placing her hand on Belle's shoulder.

Belle try not to let any tears down but her eyes feels cloudy, she has always know that her parents never consider her their daughter but only a replacement.

However, she is stun by the realization that they do not care for her at all. This engagement must have been to just give her away like a commodity.

She has suffered so much in their hands, always doing what they ask of her just to show her appreciation for taking care of her for fifteen years but it is all over now.

"Screw you all, just marry the two off to each other. I'm sure Sophia will gladly take my place" she said and turn immediately to leave the hall, pushing away Gabriel who tries to stop her.

Rain hammered against the asphalt as my sedan spun violently into the guardrail on the I-95. Blood trickled down my temple, stinging my eyes, while the rhythmic slap of the windshield wipers mocked my panic. Trembling, I dialed my husband, Clive. His executive assistant answered instead, his voice professional and utterly cold. "Mr. Wilson says to stop the theatrics. He said, and I quote, 'Hang up. Tell her I don’t have time for her emotional blackmail tonight.'" The line went dead while I was still trapped in the wreckage. At the hospital, I watched the news footage of Clive wrapping his jacket around his "fragile" ex-girlfriend, Angelena, shielding her from the storm I was currently bleeding in. When I returned to our penthouse, I found a prenatal ultrasound in his suit pocket, dated the day he claimed to be on a business trip. Instead of an apology, Clive met me with a sneer. He told me I was nothing but an "expensive decoration" his father bought to make him look stable. He froze my bank accounts and cut off my cards, waiting for the hunger to drive me back to his feet. I stared at the man I had loved for four years, realizing he didn't just want a wife; he wanted a prop he could switch off. He thought he could starve me into submission while he played father to another woman's child. But Clive forgot one thing. Before I was his trophy wife, I was Starfall—the legendary voice actress who vanished at the height of her fame. "I'm not jealous, Clive. I'm done." I grabbed my old microphone and walked out. I’m not just leaving him; I’m taking the lead role in the biggest saga in Hollywood—the one Angelena is desperate for. This time, the "decoration" is going to burn his world down.

I was four months pregnant, weighing over two hundred pounds, and my heart was failing from experimental treatments forced on me as a child. My doctor looked at me with clinical detachment and told me I was in a death sentence: if I kept the baby, I would die, and if I tried to remove it, I would die. Desperate for a lifeline, I called my father, Francis Acosta, to tell him I was sick and pregnant. I expected a father's love, but all I got was a cold, sharp blade of a voice. "Then do it quietly," he said. "Don't embarrass Candi. Her debutante ball is coming up." He didn't just reject me; he erased me. My trust fund was frozen, and I was told I was no longer an Acosta. My fiancé, Auston, had already discarded me, calling me a "bloated whale" while he looked for a thinner, wealthier replacement. I left New York on a Greyhound bus, weeping into a bag of chips, a broken woman the world considered a mistake. I couldn't understand how my own father could tell me to die "quietly" just to save face for a party. I didn't know why I had been a lab rat for my family’s pharmaceutical ambitions, or how they could sleep at night while I was left to rot in the gray drizzle of the city. Five years later, the doors of JFK International Airport slid open. I stepped onto the marble floor in red-soled stilettos, my body lean, lethal, and carved from years of blood and sweat. I wasn't the "whale" anymore; I was a ghost coming back to haunt them. With my daughter by my side and a medical reputation that terrified the global elite, I was ready to dismantle the Acosta empire piece by piece. "Tell Francis to wash his neck," I whispered to the skyline. "I'm home."
