Ever heard of a mistress living under the same roof as her lover and his wife? Meet Nirvana Ryan-a woman driven by vengeance. She had one goal: destroy Kaitlyn Moore, the privileged daughter of the powerful Moore family, who ruined her life. To do that, she became the secret lover of Derek Jules, an ambitious man using Kaitlyn to climb the corporate ladder. In the end, Nirvana would marry Derek and take her rightful place as Mrs. Jules. It was a simple plan-until she discovered everything was a lie. Betrayed and left for dead, Nirvana's life ended in a tragic accident. But fate wasn't done with her. Waking up in the past, before her downfall, she sees her second chance for what it is: a chance to burn Derek and Kaitlyn's world to the ground. This time, she'll be the one pulling the strings. There's just one problem-Severin Moore. A man lurking close in the shadows and sticking even closer in the light, both her greatest rival and relentless stalker. He decided she was his to protect before she even knew his name. Her own decisions? Irrelevant. He would do whatever it took to keep her within his boundaries of protection-even if it meant ruining or boosting her carefully laid plans. But Nirvana isn't the kind of woman who bends. Not for his lethal intelligence. Not for his dangerously sexy body. Not for the obsession that haunts her every night. She's playing her own game and she would make sure to get the revenge she crave.

A MISTRESS' AFFAIR Chapter 1 1

"What things can someone do for love?"

Nirvana had a perfect answer for this question, she would do just about everything for the man she loved.

"To what extent could someone love a person? What kind of intensity was allowed? What are the things that should and shouldn't be done for love? When should there be a drawback? What was the breaking point? What was the limit?'

These questions, she didn't have answers for nor did she pray for the courage to answer, because she would never have the heart to face what the answer might be.

Maybe that was why she stood quietly on that spot on the stairs, trying to pretend she didn't see the two people who were sitting together on a single chair. They were sitting so close that they might just as well be sitting over each other as they whispered into each other's ears, laughing and giggling.

They were the perfect picture of a happily married couple and it felt too real, pointing a straight dagger to her heart.

That man was her lover, the man who swore to always protect her and the one she swore to always love, no matter what. It was a promise both of them made but it was only one person that remembered it. There was no way he was cruel enough to continue holding that woman dearly and looking at her like that if he still remembered.

The worst part of everything was that they were morally and legally right to do that, to love each other, to kiss each other in every corner of the room and attend places-hands linked together.

While with her, it was an abomination, something of utter recklessness and immorality.

She was the one pushed to the position of the mistress-she could be nothing but that.

Derek Jules, the man she dated and had spent way too long with, and the woman who had taken him away from her, Kaitlyn Moore. Through some messed up circumstances, they all lived in the same house.

The wife, husband and his mistress.

But there should be no hard feelings right? It was supposed to be an act.

"Come on, Nirvana," She heard a voice behind her and turned to see Calvin walking down the stairs. "Everyone is almost here."

His tone was gentle and his eyes were full of pity, probably because of the events that were going to happen later that day, something that always happened when there was a family gathering.

It happened every time but it didn't make it hurt any less, in fact, the more gathering was available, the more reckless Kaitlyn would be. Nirvana braced herself for the events of the day that would surely not favor her, just thinking about it was making her anxiety shoot over the roof.

She nodded, trying to calm herself as her fingers gripped the sides of her dress. She made her way down hastily because she needed to plate the food as fast as possible. She wasted so much time daydreaming.

"You might have just asked us to do it on our own," Kaitlyn sneered as she came to sit at the dinning, Derek had his arms wrapped tightly around her waist.

Nirvana didn't say anything-just like she wasn't supposed to, not like she could even if she wanted, it would come out in a jumbled mess, she was thinking of seeing a therapist soon. It was getting harder to keep track of the things her brain had no idea of.

"Are you deaf?!" Kaitlyn asked fiercely, when Nirvana didn't answer, she barged ahead and gripped her jaws tightly to make her stare straight into her eyes. "You have to understand that when I am talking to you, you should answer me with your mouth or you won't like the consequences of your actions." Kaitlyn leaned closer to her and lowered her voice, her manicured nails digging into her skin and hurting her.

"Alright," Nirvana's lack of reaction only added to Kaitlyn's irritation, but that was all she could manage because of her disorder which had worsened lately, maybe because Kaitlyn's behavior had turned more erratic. She wasn't half as worse the month before which made Nirvana wonder if Kaitlyn was feeling insecure or saw her as a formidable enemy, but why now after all these while?

"You must think that you are still the main thing in this place, I must have you understand that I have a place in this mansion because I am legally married into this family and I have the right to cast you out if you continue to behave like a little shit." She dropped her jaw harshly and stood tall, her back straight and proud. "The worthiness of a wife can't be compared to that of a freeloader, so it is my place to correct you."

Another reminder Kaitlyn never failed to deliver every day.

Derek told her that he didn't choose Kaitlyn over her but was forced to get married because of personal interest, but he would find a way to wiggle out of the chokehold that the marriage had him on when Nirvana found out about his wedding.

Assured her that he would never love Kaitlyn and Nirvana believed him but she had forgotten that even though he said all that, it didn't mean that he would continue loving her.

He always succeeds in failing her-even at this moment, an emotionless glance was all he directed her way before he finally reached out to Kaitlyn.

A part of Nirvana wanted to scream, but how could she manage that when all she wanted to do was curl into a hole?

'Relax, it was all an act,' she repeated in her head as she tightened her finger, a mantra, a routine. It was either that, or have a mental meltdown, which would be a disaster because the guests visiting today were important.

"Kaitlyn, this is no time to banter with her," Derek murmured against Kaitlyn's shoulder as he buried his face in her neck.

"Since when did this place become yours? What? Don't tell me that you are actually feeling important because you married him?" Calvin chuckled sarcastically, gesturing to Derek with a sardonic smirk on his lips.

"Shut up your mouth, Calvin." Derek seethed.

"And if I don't?!" Calvin's eyes burned with flames as he glared at his brother.

Derek and Calvin never got along since their younger days and they grew even more apart as they grew older, they were at complete odds now.

"Then I would shut it up for you, that is no way to speak to your brother!" Another voice cut through the tense silence that arose from Calvin's confrontation and everyone stood straight.

It was Mrs. Jules, the woman whose wealth contributed to half of what made up Jules Corporation. She had just as much say as her husband in matters concerning the family.

"Mom! It is Derek's fault!" Calvin exclaimed.

"Don't tell me that you are protecting this shameless wench once again?" Mrs. Jules' voice had turned edgy, glaring at Nirvana.

"But-" Calvin started to talk but Nirvana discreetly pulled his shirt lightly.

This wasn't the time to start an argument, their guest had arrived, she heard movements from the living room earlier and soon enough, they were joined by three different people-two women and one man.

They were the guests that attended the small family gathering that Mrs. Jules had hosted, these guests were part of Mrs. Jules extended family and held high positions in the various cities they were. One last glare from Mrs. Jules, everyone quickly composed themselves and took a seat at the table, Nirvana perfecting a poker face while Kaitlyn smiled politely.

"Julia, it is so nice to see you after all these while," One of two women beamed and the others nodded with smiles.

"Same here, Judith. I missed all of you all the time." Mrs. Jules replied, before she pointed to Derek. "Let me introduce my son, Derek Jules, he is in charge of most Jules companies now."

"Nice to meet you, everyone, I have heard a lot about you all." He smiled.

"This is his wife, Kaitlyn, she is actually the only daughter of the Moore family," Mrs. Jules continued.

She didn't get along with Kaitlyn, but Kaitlyn was useful when it was time to brag-which Mrs. Jules liked to do in a totally sophisticated way. The Moore family was at the helm of all business affairs in the country and abroad, every businessman sought a chance to have a meeting with them at least once.

"Wow! That's thrilling! How did Derek manage to get such a beautiful woman?" The man asked and everyone laughed.

That was a question Nirvana had asked herself a lot of time. Kaitlyn's level was above Derek, a bit out of his reach, why on earth did she marry into the Jules family when it was obvious that she was an ambition ladder to Derek? What kind of benefit could possibly be rewarded to her for their marriage?

"This is...?" Her attention was snapped back by Judith who was staring at her, waiting for her to tell them who she was. Nirvana clenched her fist so tightly that she could feel blood, her whole body taut and her face turned pale.

Who was she? How was she supposed to introduce herself in a way that would guarantee her stay at the table? Derek's Mistress? His lover? His secretary? None of it made any sense to anyone. It didn't justify her presence on the table.

She found herself tongue-tied as her mind grappled to find a self-escape.

"I..." She started but Kaitlyn was faster and louder.

"She is our head maid."

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch-a titan of industry and my best friend's father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

I went to the City Clerk’s office for a routine copy of my marriage license to finalize a trust fund audit. I expected a simple piece of paper, but the clerk’s pitying look told me my entire life was a lie. "The license was never finalized, Ms. Oliver. In the eyes of the state, you are single." The three-hundred-guest wedding at the Plaza and the Vogue features meant nothing. My husband, Gray Cooley, had intentionally filed the documents with a "procedural defect" so he could discard me without a legal divorce. Moments later, an iCloud invite titled "Our Little Secret" popped up on my screen. It was a photo of my best friend, Brylee, holding a positive pregnancy test at our Hamptons estate. Gray’s text to her was the final blow: "Happy anniversary, babe. This baby is the best gift. Once the trust unlocks today, we’re done with the charade." I soon discovered they were even stealing my career, reassigning my architectural masterpiece to Brylee while preparing my eviction notice. Gray's mother called me a "barren mule" in a leaked recording, mocking the infertility I suffered after saving Gray’s life in a construction accident. I wasn't a wife; I was a three-year placeholder used to secure his inheritance. How could the man I bled for treat me like a disposable prop? How could my best friend carry his child while pretending to comfort me through my darkest moments? The betrayal burned until it turned into a cold, hard stone of fury. I didn't cry. Instead, I walked into the penthouse of the Barretts, the Cooleys' most powerful rivals. I signed a marriage contract with Kane Barrett, the man the tabloids called the "Beast of Wall Street." "I want a wedding," I told his father, my voice steady and lethal. "Bigger than the one I had with Gray." If they wanted me gone, they would have to watch me become the woman who owns their world.

The heavy iron gates of the Wilderness Correction Camp groaned as they released me after three years of state-sponsored hell. I stood on the dirt road, clutching a plastic bag that held my entire life, waiting for the family that claimed they sent me there for "rehab." My brother, Brady, picked me up in a luxury SUV only to throw me out onto a deserted highway in the middle of a brewing storm. He told me I was a "public relations nightmare" and that the rain might finally wash the "stink" of the camp off me. He drove away, leaving me to limp miles through the mud on a snapped ankle. When I finally dragged myself to our family estate, my mother didn't offer a hug; she gasped in horror because my muddy clothes were ruining her Italian marble. They didn't give me my old room back. Instead, they banished me to a moldy gardener’s shack and hired a "babysitter" to make sure I didn't embarrass them further. My sister, Kaleigh, stood there in white cashmere, pretending to cry while clinging to her fiancé, Ambrose—the man who had once been mine. They all treated me like a volatile junkie, refusing to acknowledge that Kaleigh was the one who planted the drugs in my bag three years ago. They wanted to believe I was broken so they wouldn't have to feel guilty about the "wellness retreat" that was actually a torture chamber. I sat in the dark of that shed, feeling the cooling gel on the cigarette burns that covered my arms, and realized they had made a fatal mistake. They thought they had erased me, but I had returned with a roadmap of scars and a hidden satellite phone. At dinner, I didn't beg for their love. I simply rolled up my sleeves and showed them the price of their silence. As the wine spilled and the lies crumbled, I sent a single text to the only person I trusted: "I'm in. Let them simmer." The hunt was finally on.

I sat on the edge of the examination table, the crinkle of the sanitary paper sounding like thunder in the sterile room. The doctor didn't even look at me as he confirmed the news: the pregnancy was over. My husband, Keyon, didn't answer my call. He just sent an automated text: "In a meeting." When I returned to our cold mansion, I found his iPad glowing with a message from his "muse," Katina. He was throwing her a secret gala tonight-on our third wedding anniversary. He told her he couldn't wait to escape the "boring" and "draining" atmosphere I created at home. Keyon didn't stumble in until 3 AM, smelling of Katina's perfume with a smear of red on his collar. When I handed him the divorce papers, he laughed in my face. He called me a "glorified housekeeper" with no skills and no future, promising I'd be back in three days begging for a subway ticket. He even bet his friends ten thousand dollars that I wouldn't survive a week without his name. He had his assistant cancel my credit cards and block my gate access before I even reached the end of the driveway. He wanted me to starve. He wanted me to crawl. He sat in his office, mocking the "desperate" woman who pawned her three-million-dollar wedding ring for scrap metal just to pay for a meal. I stood on the rainy curb, watching the man I had protected for three years treat my life like trash. He didn't know about the ultrasound I just threw in the bin. He didn't know that while he was calling me "dull," I was the one secretly writing the code that kept his billion-dollar empire from collapsing. As I slid into a cheap Uber, I opened a hidden, encrypted app on my phone. The screen refreshed to a dashboard for an account Keyon didn't know existed. The balance was ten figures long-the accumulated wealth of "Solaris," the world's most elusive tech genius. Keyon thinks he just evicted a parasite, but he's about to find out he just declared war on the only person who can hit "delete" on his entire life.
