Five years into their marriage, Tobias Stevens faced bankruptcy and was burdened with huge debt. He was in poor health and worked odd jobs at an old warehouse. His earnings were barely enough to cover the rent. To support the family, Dorothy worked by day and collected bottles from roadside bins to sell for money in the evenings, often taking her daughter, Margaret Stevens, with her. On Dorothy's birthday, Margaret surprised Dorothy with a cheap cupcake bought with coins she had saved for half a year. Dorothy was deeply moved. After saving diligently for months, she finally gathered enough money to buy tickets and take Margaret to the amusement park she had always dreamed of visiting. As they reached the entrance, they unexpectedly saw Tobias there. One of his arms was around the waist of his first love, Liza Briggs. His other arm was holding Liza's daughter, Sandra Briggs. They were heading towards the rides. "Daddy..." Margaret called out loudly to Tobias's back. A staff member of the amusement park immediately turned around and stopped Dorothy and Margaret. "Sorry, but the amusement park is closed for a private event hosted by Mr. Stevens today. You'll have to come back another day."

Chapter 1

"You... you must be mistaken. How could Mr. Stevens have rented out the entire amusement park? He doesn't have any money at all.

Dorothy couldn't believe her ears.

The staff member gave her a disdainful look and said with sarcasm, "How do you know Mr. Stevens does not have any money? He's the president of Misys Group. He is rich enough to rent one hundred amusement parks, not to mention this one."

Dorothy felt a heavy weight on her chest. Her lips turned pale as she could not utter a single word.

Margaret looked up and gently tugged at Dorothy's sleeve.

She asked innocently, "Mommy, does Daddy have a lot of money?"

Dorothy lowered her head and looked into Margaret's eager eyes. She was unsure how to respond at that moment.

Of course, the president of Misys Group would be wealthy.

Dorothy felt as if a heavy weight was crushing her chest, suffocating her as she saw Margaret in clothes that were too small.

She tried to say something, but no words came out.

Margaret perhaps sensed Dorothy's sadness and shook her head understandingly. She smiled and comforted Dorothy, saying, "Mommy, don't be upset. Maybe Daddy is busy. Let's go home now. We can come back to the park when he's not busy next time."

Her voice grew lower until it faded away.

Dorothy's heart skipped a beat. She lifted Margaret's face, which was tear-streaked.

She hurriedly embraced Margaret tightly and almost fled as she turned to leave.

Yet Margaret kept looking back. There was no hiding the admiration and longing in her eyes.

She had never been to an amusement park, not even once.

Yet Tobias had spent a lot of money renting the entire amusement park for Sandra.

On the way home, memories flooded Dorothy's mind.

Seven years ago, Tobias had been blinded in a car accident while saving Liza.

After losing his eyesight, Declan was driven out of the Stevens family by its collateral branches and lost control of the company.

From that day on, Liza quickly got married to another guy and never returned to the Stevens family.

Dorothy stayed with him and took care of him for two years. She had worked hard to get things through with him.

She had kissed him and embraced him and survived those difficult days and nights with him.

Only after consulting famous doctors across the nation did she manage to get Tobias's eyesight restored.

Afterward, Tobias married Dorothy, who had always taken care of him.

Deep down, Dorothy knew Tobias didn't love her, nor did he care for their daughter, Margaret.

But she had never known that after his eyesight recovered, Tobias had already regained control of the company.

Yet, the very first thing he did after regaining power was to feign poverty and deceive Dorothy and Margaret for five years.

During the past five years, she endured great hardships to help him shoulder the burden of their destitute family.

But she never had the idea to break up with him until that day.

Dorothy could no longer forgive his heartless deceit and betrayal.

She wiped away her tears, took out her phone, and dialed a number. "Please help me draft a legal letter to sue Tobias Steven, the president of Misys Group, for infidelity during our marriage."

"Certainly, ma'am. The legal letter will be delivered in seven days."

The heavy thud of the release stamp was the only goodbye I got from the warden after five years in federal prison. I stepped out into the blinding sun, expecting the same flash of paparazzi bulbs that had seen me dragged away in handcuffs, but there was only a single black limousine idling on the shoulder of the road. Inside sat my mother and sister, clutching champagne and looking at my frayed coat with pure disgust. They didn't offer a welcome home; instead, they tossed a thick legal document onto the table and told me I was dead to the city. "Gavin and I are getting engaged," my sister Mia sneered, flicking a credit card at me like I was a stray dog. "He doesn't need a convict ex-fiancée hanging around." Even after I saved their lives from an armed kidnapping attempt by ramming the attackers off the road, they rewarded me by leaving me stranded in the dirt. When I finally ran into Gavin, the man who had framed me, he pinned me against a wall and threatened to send me back to a cell if I ever dared to show my face at their wedding. They had stolen my biotech research, ruined my name, and let me rot for half a decade while they lived off my brilliance. They thought they had broken me, leaving me with nothing but an expired chapstick and a few old photos in a plastic bag. What they didn't know was that I had spent those five years becoming "Dr. X," a shadow consultant with five hundred million dollars in crypto and a secret that would bring the city to its knees. I wasn't just a victim anymore; I was a weapon, and I was pregnant with the heir they thought they had erased. I walked into the Melton estate and made an offer to the most powerful man in New York. "I'll save your grandfather's life," I told Horatio Melton, staring him down. "But the price is your last name. I'm taking back what's mine, and I'm starting with the man who thinks he's marrying my sister."
