He abandoned me at the altar. I chose his uncle instead. Kole Stone was ten minutes late to our bonding ceremony. Then his secretary, Brenna Rose, walked down the aisle and announced that he had chosen her. In front of hundreds of werewolves, I became the bride who had been publicly humiliated - and the alliance my pack had spent years building collapsed in an instant. I could have cried. I could have walked away. Instead, I looked at the Alpha King sitting among the Black Moon Pack. Gannon Stone. Kole's uncle. The most powerful Alpha in the room. Something inside me stirred the moment our eyes met, a strange pull I couldn't explain. And when I offered him a way to turn the ruined ceremony into a new alliance, he accepted without hesitation. I thought I was choosing him to save my pack and reclaim my dignity. Then his fingers closed around mine, and his golden eyes darkened. "I am no one's replacement. From this moment on, you belong to me." I thought I was taking control of my life. I had no idea I was stepping straight into the hands of the Alpha King.

Claimed By My Ex's Uncle: The Alpha King's Mate Chapter 1

Kenzie POV:

I stood behind the massive oak doors, listening to the muffled whispers of the guests. My heart was a steady, even drum against my ribs-far too steady for a bride on the verge of a life-altering alliance.

"Kole is ten minutes late as today's groom," my maid of honor, Nia, whispered, her breath warm against my ear. Her own scent was sharp with anxiety.

I peeked through the crack in the doors. I could see my brother, Elias, his brow furrowed as he spoke in low tones with the Elders of the Black Moon Pack. My other bridesmaid, Serena, was nervously twisting the silk ribbons on her bouquet.

"Maybe it's just traffic," Serena offered, though we all knew it was a lie. For an Alpha, on the day of his bonding ceremony, nothing short of war would make him late.

I took a deep breath. The air, thick with the scent of lilies and the nervous pheromones of hundreds of werewolves, felt suffocating. This is a transaction, I reminded myself. A deal for the honor of my pack, Silver Creek.

Suddenly, the music died. The murmur of the crowd cut off, replaced by a silence so profound it was a physical weight. Then came the first gasp, sharp and horrified.

Nia's face went white. She stared past the door, her lips trembling, unable to form words. The calm in my chest finally fractured.

I pushed past her and looked for myself. I didn't see my blond-haired fiancé, Kole Stone. Instead, I saw a woman in a washed-out blue dress. Brenna Rose. Kole's secretary. An Omega.

She was walking down the aisle, down the path of white petals laid for me, a sick, triumphant flush on her cheeks. Every step she took was a slap across my face, a slap across the face of the Silver Creek Pack.

Blood rushed to my head, then receded just as quickly, leaving my fingertips numb and cold. Humiliation was a tide of ice water, pulling me under. I could hear the whispers now, a venomous cloud of pity, mockery, and morbid fascination.

Brenna stopped just before the dais, lifting her chin. Her watery eyes were filled with a pathetic sort of defiance. "Kole isn't coming," she announced, her voice not loud, but it echoed like a thunderclap in the silent hall. "He chose me."

I felt the raw power of my brother's Alpha aura flare beside me, thick with rage. But I raised a hand, stopping him.

I stared at Brenna, forcing myself to take in every detail. A smear of mud stained the hem of her cheap dress, and a few loose strands had escaped her hastily pinned-up hair. This wasn't some carefully planned victory. It was a rushed, messy elopement, and the realization cut through the haze in my head like ice-cold water.

My gaze lifted past her to the head table. Kole's mother, Elle Richardson, sat there with fury and shame written plainly across her face. Then my eyes found the man at the very center of it all. Gannon Stone.

The Alpha King of the Black Moon Pack. Kole's uncle. He sat perfectly still, his golden eyes fixed on me with a focus that made my breath catch. Something deep inside me stirred at the sight of him, sudden and instinctive, as if some part of me had recognized him long before I ever knew his name. I couldn't explain it, but the strange pull between us made the rest of the room seem to fade away.

Elias was at my side in an instant, his voice a sharp command in my mind, a privilege of our shared blood. Kenzie, this is an act of war. We have to respond, or Silver Creek becomes a laughingstock.

I knew. To be publicly jilted at a bonding ceremony was the deepest insult one Pack could deliver to another. "

There's another option, Elias pressed, his thoughts turning sharp and calculating. A way to turn this disaster into a victory. Gannon Stone. Black Moon needs our alliance, and Gannon needs a Luna to solidify the throne he just took from his father. Archie always wanted it to be him.

My eyes met Gannon's again. His gaze was so intense it felt like he was peeling back my skin to see the soul beneath. A wild, desperate plan bloomed in the wreckage of my pride. I would not be a victim. I would seize control.

I took one final, deep breath, then rushed toward the center of the stage. With every ounce of strength I possessed, I made my voice ring through the hall, clear and cold. "I, Kenzie Emerson, hereby reject Kole Stone as my mate." It was an irrevocable vow in the world of werewolves. The moment the words left my lips, I felt a faint, spiritual thread connecting me to Kole snap, a brief, sharp sting deep in my soul.

The hall erupted. Brenna's face went from flushed red to stark white. She expected tears, a breakdown. She never expected me to be the one to sever the bond.

I didn't give her a moment to recover. I gathered the heavy satin of my wedding gown and walked down the steps, through the stunned crowd, straight toward Gannon.

Every eye followed me. I could feel their shock, their confusion, their anticipation. Each step felt like walking on a blade's edge, but I kept my spine straight, my chin high.

I stopped before him. Up close, his scent was overwhelming-cedar and a coming storm, a clean, masculine power that almost made my knees weak. I forced myself to look directly into those predatory golden eyes.

"Alpha King Gannon," my voice trembled slightly, but I held it steady. "The Black Moon Pack requires a Luna, and the Silver Creek Pack requires an ally. Since your nephew is incapable of fulfilling his duty, I propose that you take his place."

He didn't answer immediately. He just watched me, a storm brewing in the depths of his eyes. I felt his inner wolf assessing me, stripping me bare.

Just as my composure started to crack, I felt a surge of raw, possessive power from him, a silent roar that vibrated through my very soul. Mine! The word was a brand, seared into my mind so fast I thought I'd imagined it.

Slowly, he rose to his feet, his immense height casting a shadow over me. The entire hall held its breath.

He looked only at me, the corner of his mouth tipping up in a small, dangerous smile. "I accept your proposal, Kenzie Emerson."

Then, he held out his hand. It was large, knuckles scarred, radiating power.

I looked at that hand, then back to his face. I knew that taking it would send my life hurtling down a path I had never intended. But it would be my choice.

I placed my hand in his. His skin was scorching hot, and a jolt, like a raw current of electricity, shot up my arm, making my heart stutter in my chest.

Gannon's fingers closed around mine, pulling me to his side to face the crowd. His voice was not loud, but it carried the weight of absolute authority. "The ceremony will continue."

I glanced at Brenna. All the color had drained from her face. She stood there, a limp doll, the air knocked out of her. Kole's mother looked like her world had just ended.

Gannon leaned down, his voice a low rumble against my ear, for my ears only. "But understand this, Kenzie. I am no one's replacement. From this moment on, you belong to me."
