The Watchers –Elementals Chapter 1 Adike

Adike Coldbreaker raised her hand, forming Ice daggers, not perfectly made but sharp enough to kill. She threw it at her opponent, who raised her two hands palm close to her chest – forming an ice shield that shattered as the dagger collides with it.

Adike's best friend – Bukola, gave her a feral grin, eyes glowing ice blue as she uses her Watcher power, she turned in her drawn duel circle, doing a series of fast frost dances that she brings to an end by slamming her two hands on the ground. The ice-covered floor turn to pure solid frost that shoots sharp ice crystals, fast and deadly towards Adeke's direction, she took a deep breath, feeling the ice that is her birthright move in her veins. Eyes glowing like two small ice stars, she brought her right hand down, the iced floor shuddered, the force of the power make the ice crystals broke, sending them back.

The force of it sent Ola falling backward, even with her ice shield. She lay there a minute, groaning. Adike flung back her black braid, giving her grinning friend a hand up.

"One of these days, an going to win one of our duels," Ola said, removing her training leather gauntlet. She was clad in the black training armor, her black hair weave in a watcher's braid.

"Maybe when the ice Castle melts " She replied. Which is the truth. You were either born with the watcher's blood or you are not and if you were born weak you can only hope to attain perfection in the Arts of the elements.

Adike was born strong in the Arts of the ice element. The strongest, except of course her father, The West Watcher Lord.

"You shouldn't have used so much of your power, my lady." Yina the captain of her guard– it's made up of him and Bukolasince there's no need for many guards in the ice Castle. "You should reserve as much as you can in case there's more enemy."

"There's no enemy here cap." Ola gave him faked puzzled look.

"You know what am talking about Bukola." He said sharply. "If it's in real battle her ladyship must be conscious of her power usage, not use brute force.

Even though she tried not to feel hurt by his words, she feel the stings. It's the truth after all. She did use brute force more than the perfect precision that most watchers use.

She was saved from replying by the arrival of a page boy, who bows deeply at her.

"His grace requests the presence of her leadership in his study." He said, voice squeaking. Adike smiled at him, his face blushed blue, hardly noticeable with his ebony black skin. Adike knows from experience that her father did not "request" but rather a command.

She moves from the training ground, walking into the castle proper, the castle is built for its beauty but also for defense. Made of white stone and ice, its three towers standing proudly with the west flag flying at the top.

The keep inner walls are made of frost sleet that glows soft blue, Only the West lord can make that kind of ice. She moves swiftly through the corridors that lead to her father's study, the guards at the walls straighten and salute at the sight of her. She acknowledged them absently, her mind on what her father wants her for, it must be serious if it's the study she was called to. Her father only use the study for important things, far from the court eyes.

Two watchers guard the door to the study. The most loyal of them. They wore the west watcher uniform, which is made of half metal armor and blue leather. They wore one short sword and daggers at their waist, in case they run out of power in a fight. They gave her a nod, eyes hard – the watchers bow to no one, only their lord. The

She entered with her friend and guard. The study was surprisingly sparse, made so by her father. The walls and bookshelves are painted blue, ice crystals glow softly from their hanging place in the ceiling.

She bowed, her companions following. Her father's back was turned towards her, he was a powerful man, tall and muscular, with a face carved from ice, his black blad head shines from the light of the crystal.

"Father?" She knows from the temperature If the room that her father was angry, watches lords had worst tempers. He turned to her, eyes glowing brightly, it looks as if blue orbs had been plug Into a tall shadow. she shuddered, her father can be terrifying if he so chooses.

"He had been found." Her father's voice is iron.

Ola in a salute post gave her a puzzled look, it took a few seconds for what her father said to penetrate. Her heart rate speeds up, found, that change things for them, for the whole realm of watcher guardians.

She looked at her father. He was conflicted with the new situation, that much she can tell. She had been training since to read faces for their hidden secrets. She had to since she's the heir and future watch Lord of the west. Why is the conflicted?

"He was found in my domain, west of the human realm."

Now she knows why her father was having concerns since the Demon portal is in the human world and each portal is given to the five watch lords to guard and protects. This is bad news for the west, both in the human realm and the one and five realm – the name of the home of Ànjanu since it's one realm divided into five different domains– East, West, North, South and the Central, capital and royal seat of the king.

"What are we going to do?" She asked quietly.

Her father gave a short laugh. "Do? There's nothing to do but send watchers to bring him home"

"Shouldn't the rest of the council know?" Her father gave her an unreadable look for a while before losing a big breath, he sat in one of the two chairs there. "The council is turned Adike, the North want him for sure, but East and South? They are keeping their opinions to themselves.

She gave her father a pointed look. He smiled at her, touching the blue wolve that is etched into the cloak he wore, he didn't need the cloak of course anyone from the west doesn't fear the cold elements – it moves in their veins. But her mother sews the cloak, she had put detailed attention in it, she can see their crest –the howling wolve.

"We are the family of the wolves, Adike, loyal to the end."

"You will go and bring him." Her father said. His voice is now that of a watch lord – commanding. "Nobody will think it odd that the heir to the west watch is visiting the outposts of the human realm. Take your guards with you, I will be in the capital, am calling a council for him.

She wanted to argue, but to what end? Not now, she'd find him later. She bow, her guards giving him sharp salute.

I went to the City Clerk’s office for a routine copy of my marriage license to finalize a trust fund audit. I expected a simple piece of paper, but the clerk’s pitying look told me my entire life was a lie. "The license was never finalized, Ms. Oliver. In the eyes of the state, you are single." The three-hundred-guest wedding at the Plaza and the Vogue features meant nothing. My husband, Gray Cooley, had intentionally filed the documents with a "procedural defect" so he could discard me without a legal divorce. Moments later, an iCloud invite titled "Our Little Secret" popped up on my screen. It was a photo of my best friend, Brylee, holding a positive pregnancy test at our Hamptons estate. Gray’s text to her was the final blow: "Happy anniversary, babe. This baby is the best gift. Once the trust unlocks today, we’re done with the charade." I soon discovered they were even stealing my career, reassigning my architectural masterpiece to Brylee while preparing my eviction notice. Gray's mother called me a "barren mule" in a leaked recording, mocking the infertility I suffered after saving Gray’s life in a construction accident. I wasn't a wife; I was a three-year placeholder used to secure his inheritance. How could the man I bled for treat me like a disposable prop? How could my best friend carry his child while pretending to comfort me through my darkest moments? The betrayal burned until it turned into a cold, hard stone of fury. I didn't cry. Instead, I walked into the penthouse of the Barretts, the Cooleys' most powerful rivals. I signed a marriage contract with Kane Barrett, the man the tabloids called the "Beast of Wall Street." "I want a wedding," I told his father, my voice steady and lethal. "Bigger than the one I had with Gray." If they wanted me gone, they would have to watch me become the woman who owns their world.

I sat on the edge of the examination table, the crinkle of the sanitary paper sounding like thunder in the sterile room. The doctor didn't even look at me as he confirmed the news: the pregnancy was over. My husband, Keyon, didn't answer my call. He just sent an automated text: "In a meeting." When I returned to our cold mansion, I found his iPad glowing with a message from his "muse," Katina. He was throwing her a secret gala tonight-on our third wedding anniversary. He told her he couldn't wait to escape the "boring" and "draining" atmosphere I created at home. Keyon didn't stumble in until 3 AM, smelling of Katina's perfume with a smear of red on his collar. When I handed him the divorce papers, he laughed in my face. He called me a "glorified housekeeper" with no skills and no future, promising I'd be back in three days begging for a subway ticket. He even bet his friends ten thousand dollars that I wouldn't survive a week without his name. He had his assistant cancel my credit cards and block my gate access before I even reached the end of the driveway. He wanted me to starve. He wanted me to crawl. He sat in his office, mocking the "desperate" woman who pawned her three-million-dollar wedding ring for scrap metal just to pay for a meal. I stood on the rainy curb, watching the man I had protected for three years treat my life like trash. He didn't know about the ultrasound I just threw in the bin. He didn't know that while he was calling me "dull," I was the one secretly writing the code that kept his billion-dollar empire from collapsing. As I slid into a cheap Uber, I opened a hidden, encrypted app on my phone. The screen refreshed to a dashboard for an account Keyon didn't know existed. The balance was ten figures long-the accumulated wealth of "Solaris," the world's most elusive tech genius. Keyon thinks he just evicted a parasite, but he's about to find out he just declared war on the only person who can hit "delete" on his entire life.

I arrived at the hotel with Julian's favorite takeout, ready to surprise my fiancé before our big merger. But the moment I swiped the keycard, the silence of the hallway felt heavy and wrong. Inside, a red-soled stiletto lay on the marble floor-the same one I'd watched my best friend Lila try on at Saks last week. Through the cracked bedroom door, I watched Julian's back arch as Lila looked me straight in the eye and smiled, wrapping her legs tighter around him to mock my heartbreak. I fled to the penthouse to hide, only to find Grafton, Julian's "crippled" brother, waiting in the dark. To my horror, the man who was supposed to be paralyzed stood up from his wheelchair, gripped my chin with cold fingers, and forced me to sign a contract that gave him control of my family's shares. He knew about my mother's secret medical bills and used them to buy my silence, effectively turning my life into a calculated game of corporate chess. The betrayal tasted like acid, and the injustice of it all burned in my throat. My fiancé was a liar, my best friend was a thief, and the man now controlling my fate was a predator who had been faking his disability for years. I couldn't understand how everyone I trusted had turned out to be a monster. I was trapped between a man who cheated on me and a man who wanted to own me, with no way out and no one to turn to. But when Julian came looking for me, Grafton didn't hide; he stood tall, looming over me with a possessive glint in his eyes. "Help me destroy Julian," I rasped, realizing that to survive the Faulkner men, I had to become the most dangerous player of them all.

I stood at my mother’s open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest’s voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone—he brought Charla with him. He claimed she’d had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.
