Kathlyn Georgia is a determined lady who falls in love with Adam Smith. She has had a crush on him since she was a child so getting the opportunity to work with him in the same office was a dream come true for her. However, she battles hatred and attraction as Adam has hurt her a couple of times with his words. Her life spirals when she finds out she is pregnant for Adam and while struggling to fight her feelings, she has to decide if she'll be with Adam or not.
Chapter 1 FIRED
"Kathlyn, what the hell are you doing over there? My office, now." Maria, Kathlyn's supervisor yelled. A confused Kathlyn dropped the file she was holding and hurried towards Maria's office. She got into the office and shivered a bit when her eyes caught Maria's. She bounced on her feet and looked anywhere but the fuming woman's face. "I have been calling you for the past ten minutes."
"I was sending the mails you asked me to send. I was almost done before you called again" Kathlyn explained. Angry, Maria rose up from her seat and walked closer to her. She glared at Maria through her emerald green eyes like she wanted to chop her heart into tiny pieces. She detested the Latino woman especially because of her beauty. Maria was one of those women who were pretty and they knew it.
"You report to my office as soon as I call you next time, is that clear?" She hissed. Kathlyn nodded in agreement and bit down on her tongue to prevent her from saying anything provocative. She looked around the office, letting her eyes rest on the framed picture of Maria and her husband. The couple had no child and it was rumored that it was because of Maria. She did not want to ruin her shapely ass and firm breasts. "Good. Where were you last night?" Maria questioned. She walked back to her seat and settled in while waiting for Kathlyn's response.
"Excuse me?"
"You heard me correctly."
"I am afraid but my private affairs are none of your business. I work for you, ma'am but that does not give you a right to ask about the things which happen in my life. We are not even friends" Kathlyn said in the most polite manner she could think of, finding the question ridiculous.
"You dare not talk to me like that, you fucking slut" Maria cursed. She fisted the table angrily and stormed towards Kathlyn. The latter was fuming at the point but she tried to keep her anger at bay. 'This is your only job' she chanted in her head.
"You did not just call me what I think you called me" She said as calmly as she could.
"Of course I did, bitch. You go around sleeping with people's husbands and pretending like you have no idea about it when in reality you are just a fucking desperate slut who will never get a man of her own" Maria spat. That did it. Before Kathlyn could stop herself, she lost her control.
"Fuck! Bitch, you don't" Kathlyn said landing a punch on the lady's face. Maria held her nose in agony. She glared at Kathlyn and wiped her nose which was bleeding with the back of her hand. "You are the slut. That is the reason you are so insecure about your husband because if you were not, you would trust him" Kathlyn continued.
Maria's mouth hung open in shock at the audacity of the lady. She made to hit Kathlyn but was interrupted when her door burst open. Kathlyn was dragged out of the office amidst loud curses and swearing which she spat. She managed to wriggle herself free from Tessa's hand.
"Let me be. She is a fucking bitch. How dare she call me a slut?" Kathlyn thundered as soon as she was set free. Her lips were curved in a sneer and she glared at Maria's closed door. She watched as the door opened and she was tried to attack Maria again but she was pulled back by Tessa.
"Take your stupid feisty self out of this office building and never return. You are fired, bitch. Go sleep with more men for money" Maria yelled. Kathlyn broke free from Tessa and bolted towards her bitchy boss but before she could get to her, Maria went back into her office and shut the door close.
Kathlyn watched the closed door, feeling the anger slowly dissipate. She wanted to go in there and throw more punches but the reality of the entire situation slowly dawned on her. She made her way back to her desk and plopped back down on the chair, taking large intakes of air. Tessa walked up to her with a worried expression on her face.
"You know you could have ignored her, right?" Kathlyn peered up at her round doe eyes and rolled her eyes at the thought of ignoring Maria.
"I would have if she did not call me a slut. We all know who sleeps a lot around here. And what was that about me sleeping with her husband? I think she was just searching for an excuse to fire me" Kathlyn said in a resigned tone. She pushed her brown curls backwards and sucked in a deep breath. She shut her laptop close and wiped her forehead clean. "There is no point in sending these emails anymore. I am fired as it is" She said standing up.
"You can plead with her, you know? Maybe ask for time to search for another job?" Tessa said in a small whisper. Her heart was full for pity for Kathlyn and she wished there was something she could do to salvage the situation.
"It is fine. I would rather be jobless than work for a woman whose aim is to trample upon me at every given chance" She said tiredly. Her words were met with looks of pity from Tessa. She placed a comforting arm on Kathlyn's shoulder and squeezed gently.
"I will inform you if I find an opening for you."
"Thank you so much, Tessa" She said offering her a grateful smile. "I should start packing now before Satan comes out" She said and added a shiver for effect. Tessa laughed at her antics and shook her head at her. She offered Kathlyn some more words of comfort before walking back to her desk. Kathlyn cleared up her desk and walked out of the office with her stuff in her hands.
