Charles needed to know who will be available to stay with Lucy. Ever since she came to live with them, she appeared depressed and disturbed. Charles feared Lucy may be contemplating suicide. His concern was shared by Jane his wife and the community in the Blowell neighborhood. Therefore, they took turns to stay with Lucy to ensure she didn't do anything stupid. "We can't afford to lose her." They all agreed.
As a young girl, Lucy believed that marriage was a destination. A dream which every girl ought to have. Meet a great man, fall in love, hold a beautiful wedding and live happily after....
Oh how disappointing it was for twenty year old Lucy to discover that it doesn't happen like in the fairy tales.
Growing up in a hill country side her grandmother always told her, I am preparing you to be a well lady. You will become someone's wife in the future and they will not find you lacking in any way.
It seemed like grandmother made it her mission to groom Lucy to become the best wife material.
From household chores, to gardening to etiquette Lucy learned all.
By the time she completed high school she was not only academically excelling but also her mannerisms were per high standards.
Grandmother believed that a wife should not be just beauty but also brains. Therefore, she did not spare Lucy when it came to pursuing higher education.
This was not a norm since girls Lucy's age would get married after high school. It felt like no matter how prepared she was to become someone's wife there was going to be a delay, because grandmother was not having her married off until she was fully empowered.
