When a young lady finds out her true identity as the last guardian of the universe and the heir to the throne of another world, she becomes torn between love, power and responsibility.

Chapter 1 Introduction

When we were young, we were told bed time stories about the world of man and every other world that existed- all but one. Our ancestors had their reasons or so I believe. One of it might have been fear; fear of the evil and havoc mankind might face if this world were to be found or reunited with the World of Man, Nephilims, angels and demons and the others.

In the very beginning of time, the creators made the worlds and their inhabitants. The world of Vermia was the first to be created. Vermians were extraordinary beings with the shape of man. They had skin that shone as gold, their eyes sparkled in beautiful colours and they were created to be the most intelligent life on the planet. They had control over gravity so the little Vermians were taught how to soar before they walked. They lived peacefully but had no one to lead and protect them so they cried out to the Creators for a leader. The Creators hearkened to their cry and created a leader to rule and protect the universe. They named him Selinus.

Selinus was created in the likeness of a Vermian. When he was made, the Creators filled him with a lot of light, strength and wisdom. This enabled him to be a great and wise leader. However, they also Created him with the gifts of the heavens; the gift of life (Zoi), the gift of The Celestials (Ouranios), the gift of Endoergy and the gift of Compulsion.

The gift of life gave him the ability to live for over a thousand years and the power to interfere in the normal laws of death and life.

The gift of Ouranios made him the controller of every heavenly and celestial bodies that existed in the universe.

The gift of Endoergy enabled him to control and absorb all sorts of energy he wanted to including heat, cold and the powers of others.

The gift of Compulsion gave him the power to constrain minds to do as he willed.

All these gifts were given to him not for self gratification, but for the smooth rulership of the world.

The Vermians worshipped and feared Selinus, making him their king. His powers were passed to his descendants and a throne and kingdome was built for them. They were called the GUARDIANS or the royal Vermians. They were indestructible and identified by a mark at the back of their necks which was the only link to their souls. Souls only perishable by a blade made from Rubidium; a rare liquid metal found in the extreme parts of the world.

The guardians had direct access to the creators and they were treated as gods. They built huge statues for each king they had and prayed to it. These Guardians protected Vermia and was responsible for every good and evil, light and darkness and forces that occured in the universe. They controlled the times and seasons, the sun, the moon, the stars and the rain. In return, the Vermians made themselves servants of their will.

Royal Vermians were guardians of light but like angels, they could lose their light and become fallen. Fallen Guardians were called Elphims. Elphims were dark beings who were stronger in darkness but weaker in daylight. Guardians lost their light and became Elphims when they absorbed powers their bodies could not hold, when they killed Souls of the living and became overwhelmed with evil. .They were either repelled by mountain ash, or a celestial stone given to Selinus by the Creators.

Time elapsed, guardians increased in Vermia. Some fell and became Elphims while others rose to save the people and destroy the Elphims. That way, balance was created until Balus, a guardian lost his light while on the throne. The people trembled at the thought of an Elphim ruling the world. Balus was evil and responsible for every disaster that happened in the universe. He was so blood thirsty that he wiped out half of mankind with floods of rain. Many other beings went into extinction because of Balus' thirst for power. Due to his growth in darkness and might, he was fearless and destructive. Death reigned in the Universe.

The Creators saw the blood Balus had spilled and were angry. The Vermians blamed the Creators for placing the universe in the hands of one man. In a bid to save the rest of their creations. They stripped all the Royal Vermians and Elphims of two of the gifts they were created with, therefore, weakening the other two gifts. They extracted the gift of Life and Celestials and sealed it up in a Crystal. This Crystal was said to have been hidden by the Creators in a place where no man could reach; the centre of the earth. This Crystal was called the Niara Crystal.

Balus was sent into exile, having his soul locked up in a place only known to the creators and Vermia became a banished world with a boundary created to separate it from others. The Guardians lived for barely 300 years and they became weak. The contact they had with the creators was cut off also and they could no longer communicate with them. The Vermians lived in seclusion. Light and darkness had never been a perfect blend but they both seemed to coexist well in Vermia.

However, the Creators gifted them with a Seer for every Century who had the gift to communicate with the heavens. The Vermians lived off the prophecies of their seers. The seers were the only bridge they had to the heavens. They saw visions, recorded them and read it out to the people. A new era was marked in Vermia upon the arrival of a prophecy; The birth of a powerful Elphim who would bring destruction, darkness and doom to Vermia. The Creators, therefore, promised the Vermians the birth of a chosen Guardian who had a soul in the likeness of Selinus. One who would bring back the Niara Crystal to Vermia and save the people from the doom bringer in years to come. Thousands of years passed and the Vermians waited for the promise, but one ever knew the date. Neither did that date come.
