Chapter 1 Prologue

Eygpt at around 1095

The plan was simple. On the day of the new moon's rising, Heimdar; the God of darkness, and his army would invade the Sceptre and kill the gods while they held their annual lunar convergence in the meeting room. Heimdar's forces divided themselves into three groups, one took the northwest entrance, another took the east entrance, and the rest charged in through the main entrance alongside Heimdar. They originally planned to eliminate the members of the Sceptre separately, within each of their individual domains but out of the blue, Lyren; the leader God of the Sceptre called for a convergence of all qualifying Gods, it was as though luck was on Heimdar's side. All those he wished to destroy, all together in one place. Heimdar led the charge and barged into the Sceptre's meeting hall, expecting to launch a surprise attack on unsuspecting prey. Little did he know that Myr; his army general had betrayed the dark legion and revealed their plans to Lyren and the other Gods. He informed the Gods of Heimdar's plans to retrieve his newborn from Lyren's clutches and steal the Elucidator. The Elucidator was the most powerful sword ever crafted, said to possess the power to destroy the world. It also happened to be the only weapon that could kill Lyren and the source of the divine light that gave the Sceptre's Gods their strength. Contrary to Heimdar's plan, the so-called unsuspecting Gods were not so unsuspecting anymore. This slip-up led to the decimation of Heimdar's army, leaving only him and Axle; his right-hand man, alive.

"Sir, I'll try my best to hold them back" said Axle as he reached for his belt and unsheathed his blade. "You should focus your efforts on getting your son and the sword"

"I refuse to leave you here alone" said Heimdar.

"It would be of no gain if we were both killed, and besides, I'm more capable than you think"

As soon as Axle lept out of cover and began engaging the gods, Heimdar used the momentary chaos to make his way toward the room where Michael; his newborn son was being held. After traversing the infinitely winding halls of the sceptre, he finally made it to Lyren's quarters. Two men were guarding the entrance to the room. He made quick work of them and burst into the room. On entry, he immediately set eyes on his son. Warmth filled his heart and all he wanted to do was embrace his son, but he knew this was no time for a touching reunion. He picked him up and used a piece of fabric he had torn from the bed to fasten him to his back, making it easier to move while carrying him. The main objective was now complete, all that was left was for him to acquire the Elucidator from the Sceptre's trinket display room and kill Lyren. He ran as fast as he could considering the newfound weight he was conveying. On arrival, he was greeted by Lyren himself who in his left hand held Axle's freshly decapitated head, and in the right, the Elucidator. Heimdar came to a halt instantly, it was as though he had been frozen in place. Sweat ran down his forehead and his limbs became stiff.

"Oh poor lowly God, did you really think you could invade my domain and steal from me without any resistance?" said Lyren.

"You kidnapped my son you monster, what else did you expect me to do"

" I didn't kidnap him. He was borne of the light, hence he must be of the light and as such, he must die by the light. Besides, this is what Reina would have wanted"

"Don't you dear speak her name you bastard" Heimdar shouted as he lunged towards Lyren to get a strike in.

The battle was long and fierce with both sides dealing major blows to the other, but in the end, Heimdar couldn't quite match the power of the Elucidator and Lyren's immortality also served as an obstacle to his victory. Lyren charged the Elucidator with his light and impaled Heimdar through his chest, kicked him to a corner of the room, and left him for dead.

As Heimrar lay wounded and defeated with his newborn son crying endlessly in his arms and the Elucidator's light burning him from the inside out, he couldn't help but weep.

"Oh how pathetic, a so-called God of darkness, crying at the hands of death. You could at least reserve the minute amount of dignity you have left and accept your demise quietly" said Lyren.

Heimdar started laughing from the pool of blood and years he lay in. This took Lyren aback.

"Is your mind betraying you already Heimdar?" Lyren asked.

"No, it's not. I just realized that you're right"

"I'm always right, it isn't a new occurrence" said Lyren.

"This is where my story ends. I've lived my life. But as a father, I owe it to my son to at least let him experience his" said Heimdar.

Heimdar reached into his pocket, revealing a stone. Flashes of green light shone through the cracks on it.

Immediately, Lyren burst out of his throne where he sat to watch Heimdar pass and began sprinting towards Heimdar.

"What the hell are you doing Heimdar. Drop that right now!"

Tears rolled down Heimdar's face as he took one last look at his son before he joined his love in the ever-flowing stream.

"It's too late Lyren, I've already precast the Hex to awaken it"

A crack suddenly burst open in thin air, slowly sucking everything in the room towards itself.

"Heimdar, you bastard. What have you done!"

"I've given my son what he deserves, a chance to live a life on a path he chooses!"

Heimrar pulled the Elucidator from his chest while letting out a loud shriek. Pulling on the sword hastened his demise but he had no need for more time. After dislodging the Elucidator from himself, he tossed both his son and the sword into the crack, causing it to close up instantly.

"Goodbye my son" he said as the burn from the light of the Elucidator wound, burning him to a crisp, leaving nothing but ashes.

Reinforcements began falling into the room from all sides but it was too late, Heimdar had already achieved his goal.

Vycint; Lyren's most skilled sorcerer emerged from the main entrance of the trinket room and moved towards Lyren who was on his knees infront of Heimdar's ashes.

"My king, all intruders have been eliminated" said the troop leader.

The news of his enemy's demise didn't even bring a smile to Lyren's face like it usually would. All he was interested in knowing was what had transpired and where the boy had gone.

"My lord, where is the child?" Vycint asked.

"I don't know Vycint. That pathetic excuse for a God opened some kind of portal and threw both the child and sword into it!"

"I need you to find where they've gone" said Lyren.

Vycint approached the site of the portal and began inspecting every nook and cranny of the area where the portal had appeared. It took a few days but finally, he came to a conclusion. After he was done compiling the results of his research, he went to Lyren's inner quarters; the place where Lyren had been holed up ever since the boy's escape. Immediately he saw Vycint, he was anxious to hear of the results of his investigations.

"Vycint have you found the boy? Have you figured out where the portal led?"

"We'll actually my lord, judging from the residue left behind and the color of the light emitted from the..."

"Spare me the details Vycint, where is the boy!"

"Actually my lord, in this case, the more appropriate question would be 'when is the boy' not where" said Vycint.

"What do you mean Vycint?"

"That stone is one of the nine hearts of Chronos; the keeper of time. Heimrar used it to send the boy and the sword to a forthcoming time"

Lyren flared up and held Vycint by his neck as though he were the one who had caused these complications.

"Well I suggest you locate him quickly and find a way to get me to him because if you do not, you'll be the next to die by my hand"

Lyren proceeded to throw Vycint across the room, onto a pillar in the middle of the room. This knocked the wind right out of his lungs causing him to wheeze and stagger back to his feet.

"It.....sha.....shall be so... My Lord" said Vycint as he crouched to pick up his fallen scrolls after which he left.
