Joanna Bennett is an honest, kind and lovely girl. When she was in high school, she saved an old man she didn't know in a car accident without any hesitation. Out of gratitude, the old man promised to let his grandson marry Joanna in the future in order to make her life safe and sound. At that time, Joanna didn't know what is love. So she answered the old man's request and she treated the old man's grandson as her husband. She liked to stay with his grandson. However, at the age of 18, Joanna was framed and fell the river from a bridge. And she was saved by Chris Jensen. She began to wonder what is love.

Chapter 1 Engulfed

Lying on the bed, Joanna Bennett felt hot and uncomfortable.

While she was in drowsiness, someone with a pungent smell of wine pressed down.

"Who are you? Let go of me!"

Her big pretty eyes were full of horror, and she tightly squeezed the bedsheet. Before she could say more, the man laughed emotionlessly.

"You..."

The man's hand fell on her lips. His cold fingertips somehow brought her a burning sensation instantly.

A horrible feeling rose in her. Before she could speak, the man's hoarse and emotionless voice came over.

"You want to be my woman so badly?"

In the heat, Joanna trembled and suddenly came to her senses.

"No... you misunderstood... I'm already engaged..."

By the last bit of her sense, Joanna overcame the dizziness and quickly turned over.

She was petite and so agile that she got out of the man's arms, got off the bed, and took to heels.

But then she felt a grip on her hand. The man threw her back to the bed like a cargo.

He stared coldly at her with gloomy eyes. The corner of his thin lips curved up in a contemptuous smile.

The room was so dark that Joanna couldn't see his face clearly. Even so, she raised her hand to show the man her engagement ring.

...

The darkness in the room engulfed the dim light of the diamond ring.

Along with it, its owner was also engulfed.

...

When Joanna woke up, it was already the next evening.

She felt pain all over as if a truck hit her, and her brows furrowed.

When a knock came from the door, Joanna didn't have time to think about her situation and covered herself up quickly.

In a short while, a waitress came into the bedroom with an exquisite and delicious meal. A standard smile was on her face.

"Please enjoy your dinner."

The waitress put the meal down and turned to leave.

"Wait!" Joanna called out.

As soon as she uttered a sound, she felt a burning pain in her throat. Her voice was as hoarse as that when a piece of abrasive paper scratched against the table.

Her pale face instantly flushed.

Joanna grasped the quilt and wished that she could vanish into thin air.

"What else can I help you?"

"May I ask... if you have any clothes here?" Joanna blushed.

The room should have been cleaned up. Last night... her clothes were torn up by that man.

Scum!

"Yes, a moment please."

After the waitress left, Joanna walked along the wall on her trembling legs to the bathroom to wash up.

Half an hour later, the sound of running water was mixed with the cry of the girl in the bathroom. It was low sobs in the beginning and then a bitter wail.

An hour later, Joanna came out of the bathroom in a bathrobe, her eyes red.

After the wail, she managed to calm down and sit down to eat.

She couldn't blame the world. Now that it came to this, her engagement with Lukas Jensen also came to an end.

She made up her mind to see Kane Jensen and asked the old man to make the call and break off the engagement.

She reflexed on what happened yesterday after she checked in the hotel before realizing that the incident started from a cup of water given by the front desk staff.

As for the identity of the culprit, she had no clue.

But there was no hurry since the fire couldn't be wrapped up in the paper. She would find it out and get her revenge!

I was sitting in the Presidential Suite of The Pierre, wearing a Vera Wang gown worth more than most people earn in a decade. It was supposed to be the wedding of the century, the final move to merge two of Manhattan's most powerful empires. Then my phone buzzed. It was an Instagram Story from my fiancé, Jameson. He was at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris with a caption that read: "Fuck the chains. Chasing freedom." He hadn't just gotten cold feet; he had abandoned me at the altar to run across the world. My father didn't come in to comfort me. He burst through the door roaring about a lost acquisition deal, telling me the Holland Group would strip our family for parts if the ceremony didn't happen by noon. My stepmother wailed about us becoming the laughingstock of the Upper East Side. The Holland PR director even suggested I fake a "panic attack" to make myself look weak and sympathetic to save their stock price. Then Jameson’s sleazy cousin, Pierce, walked in with a lopsided grin, offering to "step in" and marry me just to get his hands on my assets. I looked at them and realized I wasn't a daughter or a bride to anyone in that room. I was a failed asset, a bouncing check, a girl whose own father told her to go to Paris and "beg" the man who had just publicly humiliated her. The girl who wanted to be loved died in that mirror. I realized that if I was going to be sold to save a merger, I was going to sell myself to the one who actually controlled the money. I marched past my parents and walked straight into the VIP holding room. I looked the most powerful man in the room—Jameson’s cold, ruthless uncle, Fletcher Holland—dead in the eye and threw the iPad on the table. "Jameson is gone," I said, my voice as hard as stone. "Marry me instead."

"Let's get married," Mia declares, her voice trembling despite her defiant gaze into Stefan's guarded brown eyes. She needs this, even if he seems untouchable. Stefan raises a skeptical brow. "And why would I do that?" His voice was low, like a warning, and it made her shiver even though she tried not to show it. "We both have one thing in common," Mia continues, her gaze unwavering. "Shitty fathers. They want to take what's ours and give it to who they think deserves it." A pointed pause hangs in the air. "The only difference between us is that you're an illegitimate child, and I'm not." Stefan studies her, the heiress in her designer armor, the fire in her eyes that matches the burn of his own rage. "That's your solution? A wedding band as a weapon?" He said ignoring the part where she just referred to him as an illegitimate child. "The only weapon they won't see coming." She steps closer, close enough for him to catch the scent of her perfume, gunpowder and jasmine. "Our fathers stole our birthrights. The sole reason they betrayed us. We join forces, create our own empire that'll bring down theirs." A beat of silence. Then, Stefan's mouth curves into something sharp. "One condition," he murmurs, closing the distance. "No divorces. No surrenders. If we're doing this, it's for life" "Deal" Mia said without missing a beat. Her father wants to destroy her life. She wouldn't give him the pleasure, she would destroy her life as she seems fit. ................ Two shattered heirs. One deadly vow. A marriage built on revenge. Mia Meyers was born to rule her father's empire (so she thought), until he named his bastard son heir instead. Stefan Sterling knows the sting of betrayal too. His father discarded him like trash. Now the rivals' disgraced children have a poisonous proposal: Marry for vengeance. Crush their fathers' legacies. Never speak of divorce. Whoever cracks first loses everything. Can these two rivals, united by their vengeful hearts, pull off a marriage of convenience to reclaim what they believe is rightfully theirs? Or will their fathers' animosity, and their own complicated pasts tear their fragile alliance apart?
