As a werewolf hunter, Sheila knew that having a romantic relationship with a werewolf was strictly prohibited. But when she met the attractive and mysterious alpha Alden, she couldn't help but fall under his spell. As their love grew, she had to choose between her duty as a hunter and her heart as a lover. Sheila had dedicated her entire life to becoming a werewolf hunter. She'd been taught that these beasts are cruel, murderous creatures who must be exterminated for humans to be secure. So, when she was dispatched on a mission to find a rogue werewolf in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, she was ready to go to any length to bring him down. Unfortunately, she was captured by the pack led by Alpha Alden. When she eventually confronted Alpha Alden, everything she'd been trained in was thrown into question. He was not the monster she expected; he was attractive, intelligent, and passionately protective of his pack. She realized that the world wasn't as black and white as she had thought and got acquainted with him. Sheila faced a dilemma as their attraction to one another got stronger. Will she do her job as a hunter, or will she follow her heart and seek a forbidden relationship with the alpha? The more time she spent with him, the more difficult it became to resist his allure.

Chapter 1 THE HUNT

Sheila knelt low, her feet sliding into the soft dirt, aiming her crossbow at the empty clearing ahead. Her green eyes raced back and forth, searching for any movement. She'd been following the rogue werewolf's trail through the dense woodland for days.

Growing up in a family of werewolf hunters, she had been groomed for this since she was a youngster. Her grandfather and father had passed down their knowledge to her, teaching her how to hunt, trap, and kill night creatures.

Yet this was no ordinary werewolf. It was larger, stronger, and more cunning than any other monster she had ever hunted.

It has been targeting surrounding towns, leaving a bloody trail of destruction in its wake. Sheila realized that innocent people would continue to suffer if she didn't intervene quickly.

Sheila's tolerance was exhausting as the sun began to set. She'd been crouching in the same posture for hours, her muscles throbbing. She was about to give up and return to her campground when she heard rustling in the bushes.

Her heart rate increased as she prepared her crossbow, her fingers shaking with excitement. Suddenly, a big gray wolf raced through the bushes toward her. Sheila's heart skipped a beat as she pulled the trigger on her crossbow, but the wolf was too swift.

Sheila was attacked by a werewolf, but she kills it with her knife. As the werewolf drew its final breath, she realized that this was only the beginning of her journey. She recalled her family's history as werewolf hunters, and how they dedicated their lives to safeguarding their society from these animals. Sheila continued deeper into the forest when she heard a rustle in the woods. She became immobile, but it was only a rabbit.

She was committed to completing her mission despite the risks. She was a skilled hunter, having been trained by her parents and her grandpa after them. She was an expert at tracking and killing werewolves, and she had never missed a mission before.

Sheila noticed movement ahead of her as the sun began to set. She approached with caution; her crossbow drawn. An enormous black wolf sprang from behind a tree and lunged at her. She instantly rose and discharged her crossbow. The arrow struck the wolf in the chest, causing it to fall to the ground, writhing in agony. Sheila confronted cautiously, ready to deliver the killing blow, but the wolf's form shifted and altered as she got closer.

The wolf morphed into a man in an instant, a tall, dark-haired man with piercing blue eyes. He was struggling for air while gripping the arrow still trapped in his chest. Sheila was taken aback. She'd heard stories about werewolves who could transform back into humans, but she'd never seen one for herself.

The man looked up at her, his eyes filled with rage. "You've committed a costly mistake, hunter," he growled. "You should have avoided this."

Sheila didn't even flinch. She'd faced many werewolves before, and this one, even in human form, didn't frighten her.

"You're the one mistaken," she added gently. "You were not supposed to hurt those acquitted people."

The man's face became solemn. "They were weak," he sneered. "They were food. They were never more than that to me."

Sheila was filled with rage and hatred. This man was nothing more than a beast. She raised her crossbow, ready to shoot.

Yet something in the man's eyes paused her. A spark of compassion and a shred of vulnerability tugged at her heartstrings.

She drew her weapon. "I won't kill you," she stated emphatically. "But you are not allowed to harm anyone else."

The man fixed his gaze on her but did not move. Sheila took a step back, her heart thumping. She had never felt so torn before. Should she have murdered him? Was it her responsibility as a hunter to remove any threat to her society, regardless of how much it went against her conscience? Sheila let the man leave.

Sheila knew her life was never going to be the same as she drove back to town. She'd crossed a line that couldn't be crossed again. The hunter had transformed into the hunted.

The next day Sheila went again to the forest. As she pursued the rogue werewolf through the dense forest, her heart was pounding in her chest. Her entire life had been training for this, but nothing could have prepared her for the intensity of the hunt. The beast was fast and nimble, leaping over downed trees and darting through thick underbrush.

Sheila was having trouble keeping up, her breath coming out in quick gasps. She couldn't avoid thinking of her family's legacy as she rushed into the woodland. Sheila had grown up hearing stories of her grandfather and father's bravery and talent as werewolf hunters. She'd always known shed follow in their footsteps, but now that she was there, she knew how dangerous and exciting the work might be.

Suddenly, she noticed the rogue werewolf up ahead halted to gather breath, and was looking around cautiously. Sheila reduced her speed in an attempt to control her breathing and settle her nerves. She was afraid of making any unexpected movements that may frighten the wolf and send it fleeing. She moved closer, raising her crossbow and aiming at the wolf's heart.

The wolf turned and leaped at her just as she was ready to pull the trigger. Sheila fell backward, almost avoiding its razor-sharp claws. She shot her crossbow, but it went wide. The rogue werewolf snarled and circled about her, sizing her up. She remained firm, her heart beating in her chest. She was in grave danger, but she also realized she couldn't back down now. She had a task to complete and focused on finishing it. Sheila drew her silver hunting knife from its scabbard and braced herself for battle. She dug deep into its chest. The rogue died.

Sheila continued her search and came across a hidden cave deep in the jungle. She entered with caution, her senses on full alert. She was startled to hear a low growl emanating from the darkness. She cautiously drew her crossbow, but a figure appeared from the shadows before she could shoot. It was the same man she met, yet his eyes were filled with a furious intensity, and his teeth were as sharp as a wolf's.

Her heartbeat raced as she recognized she was in the presence of a werewolf. Yet, the beast did not attack her. It instead talked in a deep, rumbling tone.

"I'd been anticipating you," he explained.

Sheila's forehead furrowed in perplexity. "What exactly do you mean?" she inquired.

"I understand why you're here," the werewolf responded. "You're looking for me, aren't you?"

Sheila paused for a moment before gently nodding. "Sure," she confessed. "You are needed."

The werewolf chuckled. "It's hard to catch me," he said. "But also, I don't like fighting you. I have an idea for you.

Sheila shook her head, skeptical. "What kind of proposal?" she inquired.

"I need your assistance," the werewolf explained. "Others, like myself, are at risk. We require someone who has experience fighting hunters."

Sheila's mind was racing with ideas. She knew it went against everything she'd been taught as a hunter, but the prospect of collaborating with a werewolf was too appealing to pass up.

"What's this all about for me?" she inquired, still skeptical.

The werewolf took a step closer, his gaze locked on hers. "You'll be safe with me," he assured. "Most significantly, you'll have my confidence."

Sheila thought over his remarks for a time before nodding. "All right," she said. "I'll assist you."

The werewolf's grin spread across his face. "Thanks," he said. "But we must act immediately. The hunters will soon be closing on us."

Sheila followed the werewolf out of the cave, a strange mix of thrill and terror in her heart. She was well aware that cooperating with the beast would put her at odds with the other hunters. But she couldn't resist helping him and was curious to understand werewolves. She couldn't resist wondering what other surprises the night had in hand for her as they moved deeper into the woods.

Suddenly, the werewolf growl changed to the man's sound. he exclaimed. "I surrender!"

She came to a halt, her crossbow still aimed at the wolf. "Prove yourself," she demanded.

The wolf altered and distorted gradually, his fur blending into his body and his limbs expanding. In a matter of moments, he had transformed into a tall, skinny man with intense green eyes and a combative demeanor.

Sheila lowered her crossbow slightly but kept it pointed at the man. "Who are you?" she asked.

The man's attention was fixated on her. "I won't say anything to you."

Her pupils dilated. "Are you a rogue werewolf? You've been tormenting the nearby neighborhoods."

The man's expression softened slightly. "I wasn't born this way," he said. "This is due to a werewolf bite. It was against my will."

Sheila's heart softened slightly, but she reminded herself of her hunter obligations. She was somehow convinced and then replied, "However you're still putting innocent humans in danger."

Sighing, the man said. "I get it," he admitted. "But I've done nothing wrong. I've been attempting to figure out how to regulate my changes to avoid causing harm to others."

Sheila took a moment to consider this. She'd never encountered a werewolf like him before, one that appeared apologetic and eager to rehabilitate. She dropped her crossbow slowly to the ground.

"That's fine," she said. "I can free you if you won't attack again."

Sheila approached the man with caution when he nodded. She knotted his hands with a rope and started leading him back to her camp, not knowing what she would do with him next.
