Chapter 1: Paths Crossed

Michael Sterling existed in a universe of suits and skyscrapers, where the vast urban landscape shared stories of aspiration and authority. She reveled in simple pleasures — a steaming cup of coffee, the laughter of her friends, the few quiet moments between checks on patients.

Their worlds collided unexpectedly one rainy afternoon when Michael was brought to the hospital where she worked for an emergency case.
