Chapter 1 The festival

It was lord Ganesha' festival, everyone was busy preparing to welcome the idol to the house. Madhulika was seen running up and down to do one thing or the other.

"Madhulika, have you gotten the coconuts, the red flowers, and the sacred thread?" Her mum asked her.

"But I thought Kashika had bought those. Wasn't she supposed to get everything ready yesterday" Madhulika was very tired, she had been the one making preparations. Her younger sister wasn't even doing anything, the least she could do was buy the things needed for the preparation but she didn't do it.

Kashika had always been like that, lazy and bad mouthed. Although she was rude, she wasn't to madhulika.

Madhulika had earned respect from Kashika because of how easy going and nice she was.

"You know how she can be, go to the market and buy the things, please, just go" Divya pleaded to her daughter.

"Alright, I will use some of my savings to buy it. After all, it worths it... Today we are bringing Lord Ganesha home!!" She screamed the last part in happiness.

Madhulika started heading to the market, she greeted lots of people on her way.

"Here's your change" The seller gave her some rupees as her change.

"Thank you for the discount" She smiled at the woman and and started heading back home.

'I really can't wait for the veneration, it's going to make everyone feel renewed. I will also wish for the lord to make my dream of becoming an actress come to pass... I hope I...' Her thoughts were cuts off when she bumped into someone.

"I am sorry" She apologized. At this moment she didn't bother to look at the person, she just bent down to pick her bags that fell. And unfortunately, one of the coconuts broke.

' What a bad luck. This costs me my savings' She didn't want to get angry because it was a special day. A day of love and joy, but she couldn't help it.

"See what you've done " She yelled and lifted her head up.

Immediately she saw the figure in front of her, she gasped slightly.

The beauty of the man standing in front of her made her speechless. He was so cute beyond imaginations.

She noticed he looked different from a normal India guy. 'Perhaps he is not from here' She thought.

"Hello! You bumped into me, stop acting like I was the one that did" He snapped at her. His English was fluent, and his voice was sweet to hear.

Madhulika quickly gathered herself up, she cleared her throat and yelled back at him. "Didn't you also bump into me. Listen Mr man, don't..." She paused when she remembered she had to go home quickly for the festival.

"Oh lord, I am late" She muttered to herself and made to walk away, but the guy held her wrist, stopping her.

Madhulika stared at him, then at her wrist. She carefully dropped the bag on the floor, which contains the things she had bought.

"You pervert" She made a fist with her right hand, and gave him a punch on his face.

"Ouch!" The man screamed in pain.

"Do not underestimate the power of madhulika. Goodbye" She picked her bag and started to run home.

Getting home, she saw that her mother was impatiently waiting for her.

"Madhulika, what took you so long?" Divya asked.

"Nothing. Here are the stuffs" She replied and handed the bag over to her.

"You bought a lot of things. Don't you think they are too much?"Divya was worried because of the way madhulika usually spends money to buy excess things.

" It's lord Ganesha' festival, so cheer up...."Madhulika was saying, when she heard the sounds of playing drums, and singing.

"They are here" She ran outside the house.

Outside was filled with lots of people. Some were carrying the god, while some were playing drums and singing. All of them were putting on yellow clothes.

"Hail lord Ganesha!" One of them screamed so loudly.

"Hail!" Everyone chorused, including Madhulika.

She covered her hair with the

ghoonghat, joined her palms together, and bowed. "Hail lord Ganesha" She muttered.

They placed the idol at the right place, and then did all the necessary rituals.

It was finally time for the ritual. The whole family was present in the room Lord ganesha was placed.

And it was madhulika turn to perform her veneration. She took the tray containing the candle and other things, then she started moving it round in front of the idol.

'Hey lord, I hope you will fulfill my dreams right now. I have never been so desperate to become an actress. I don't know why but I feel like today is an amazing day... Hail, lord' She thought to herself and bowed again.

The festival for that day finally came to an end, everyone was happy after the veneration.

Madhulika was in the living room acting up a play, she didn't know when kashika walked past her to open the door.

"You think you can beat me? I am going to rip that eyes off yours out" She said, as if someone was present with her.

Kashika on the other hand heard a knock, she walked pass Madhulika who was so busy acting up her rubbish - according to her.

She opened the door only to see a man she hadn't even met before.

"Hey, who are you?" She asked.

"Isn't this apartment 3?"The man also asked.

'Hmm. His accent explains something; he isn't from India. He looks so cute... Kashika this is your chance' She thought and smiled at him.

"This is four, three is over there" She replied, pointing at a particular direction.

"Oops, sorry for disturbing" The man wanted to turn back and leave, but Kashika stopped him by saying, "We are celebrating today, come in and have some sweets. And you must also be tired, I will make you coffee".

"Thanks. But no, thanks. The apartment is a stone throw from here, no need" He rejected kindly.

"I don't take no for an answer. Come in" She dragged the stranger's hand into the living room.

Getting inside, Liam saw a lady talking to herself. He couldn't see her face because his back was facing her.

He figured out the lady was acting. He was bemused by the way she was talking.

" That's my crazy sister, ignore her crazy attitude and please sit" Kashika said, she took him to the couch and sat down.

This time around, Liam could see the face of the lady. He furrowed his brows in surprise.

Madhulika stopped acting when she notice the presence of people in the living room. She stared at them and her eyes sparked in surprise.

"You!" There both chorused.

I died on a Tuesday. It wasn't a quick death. It was slow, cold, and meticulously planned by the man who called himself my father. I was twenty years old. He needed my kidney to save my sister. The spare part for the golden child. I remember the blinding lights of the operating theater, the sterile smell of betrayal, and the phantom pain of a surgeon's scalpel carving into my flesh while my screams echoed unheard. I remember looking through the observation glass and seeing him-my father, Giovanni Vitiello, the Don of the Chicago Outfit-watching me die with the same detached expression he used when signing a death warrant. He chose her. He always chose her. And then, I woke up. Not in heaven. Not in hell. But in my own bed, a year before my scheduled execution. My body was whole, unscarred. The timeline had reset, a glitch in the cruel matrix of my existence, giving me a second chance I never asked for. This time, when my father handed me a one-way ticket to London-an exile disguised as a severance package-I didn't cry. I didn't beg. My heart, once a bleeding wound, was now a block of ice. He didn't know he was talking to a ghost. He didn't know I had already lived through his ultimate betrayal. He also didn't know that six months ago, during the city's brutal territory wars, I was the one who saved his most valuable asset. In a secret safe house, I stitched up the wounds of a blinded soldier, a man whose life hung by a thread. He never saw my face. He only knew my voice, the scent of vanilla, and the steady touch of my hands. He called me Sette. Seven. For the seven stitches I put in his shoulder. That man was Dante Moretti. The Ruthless Capo. The man my sister, Isabella, is now set to marry. She stole my story. She claimed my actions, my voice, my scent. And Dante, the man who could spot a lie from a mile away, believed the beautiful deception because he wanted it to be true. He wanted the golden girl to be his savior, not the invisible sister who was only ever good for her spare parts. So I took the ticket. In my past life, I fought them, and they silenced me on an operating table. This time, I will let them have their perfect, gilded lie. I will go to London. I will disappear. I will let Seraphina Vitiello die on that plane. But I will not be a victim. This time, I will not be the lamb led to slaughter. This time, from the shadows of my exile, I will be the one holding the match. And I will wait, with the patience of the dead, to watch their entire world burn. Because a ghost has nothing to lose, and a queen of ashes has an empire to gain.

"Let's get married," Mia declares, her voice trembling despite her defiant gaze into Stefan's guarded brown eyes. She needs this, even if he seems untouchable. Stefan raises a skeptical brow. "And why would I do that?" His voice was low, like a warning, and it made her shiver even though she tried not to show it. "We both have one thing in common," Mia continues, her gaze unwavering. "Shitty fathers. They want to take what's ours and give it to who they think deserves it." A pointed pause hangs in the air. "The only difference between us is that you're an illegitimate child, and I'm not." Stefan studies her, the heiress in her designer armor, the fire in her eyes that matches the burn of his own rage. "That's your solution? A wedding band as a weapon?" He said ignoring the part where she just referred to him as an illegitimate child. "The only weapon they won't see coming." She steps closer, close enough for him to catch the scent of her perfume, gunpowder and jasmine. "Our fathers stole our birthrights. The sole reason they betrayed us. We join forces, create our own empire that'll bring down theirs." A beat of silence. Then, Stefan's mouth curves into something sharp. "One condition," he murmurs, closing the distance. "No divorces. No surrenders. If we're doing this, it's for life" "Deal" Mia said without missing a beat. Her father wants to destroy her life. She wouldn't give him the pleasure, she would destroy her life as she seems fit. ................ Two shattered heirs. One deadly vow. A marriage built on revenge. Mia Meyers was born to rule her father's empire (so she thought), until he named his bastard son heir instead. Stefan Sterling knows the sting of betrayal too. His father discarded him like trash. Now the rivals' disgraced children have a poisonous proposal: Marry for vengeance. Crush their fathers' legacies. Never speak of divorce. Whoever cracks first loses everything. Can these two rivals, united by their vengeful hearts, pull off a marriage of convenience to reclaim what they believe is rightfully theirs? Or will their fathers' animosity, and their own complicated pasts tear their fragile alliance apart?

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.
