Nights With Her Boss Chapter 1 THERE SHE IS

It was a work day as usual and Maryanne had woken up by 5am to ensure she was through with her chores in the house before time for work. She cleaned the house and prepared food for two.

Her boyfriend, Aiden, was still asleep, snoring on one edge of the bed, hugging his pillow so tight to himself as if it were his girlfriend.

Maryanne finally finished everything and took her bath. She was about to put on her necklace when a hand supported. She looked in the mirror in front of her and smiled.

"Good morning baby!" He greeted!

"Hey!" She still had her smile on.

"Do you plan to leave without letting me do what is required?" Aiden asked with a raised brow.

"Not really." She lied. Honestly, she didn't intend to bother him. He was still asleep, and she would rather not wake him up.

"Thank God I caught you in time." Aden said, and Maryanne smiled even more. He helped her with the chain necklace and squat, "Bribe me!" He said.

Maryanne rolled her eyes at first but, seeing how serious he looked, she accepted. She leaned closer and gave him a French kiss on the lips.

"You know that won't do." Aden protested, and Maryanne was already getting late. She knew what he wanted but, she wasn't going to. At least, not yet.

"I don't have time for that now. You know I'm late already." Maryanne picked up her bag, planted kisses on his face and hurried out of the house.

Aden only frowned for a while and later, a grin appeared on his face. He was up to his normal task. How he enjoyed back at home during her workdays.

After some minutes, Aiden couldn't wait. His mind was bombarded with an expectation and a certain kind of nagging nervousness which he had been trying to repress, but it wouldn't just work. He sat there as his heart started to thud inside his chest. His body was tense like that, like a tightened bow, until the sound from his phone jerked him back to reality. His guts twisted uncomfortably, making him stare at the phone for a while before he picked it. He knew who was calling, but he found it strange, feeling uncomfortable despite having done it most times. He did the calling to be sure of his games, but not she was calling him first. Likewise, he would rather not get her annoyed in any way, so he had been watching out for little mistakes ever since they met. And having being in a couple of relationships aided him more to understand certain things he should do and the ones he should not. This was one of those things he needed to treat carefully, else it would backfire, and he would miss a big opportunity.

The second call came in and as the phone was ringing, he tapped the green button of his smartphone and her tiny voice came through immediately.

"Baby!" He called out first.

"What happened? You didn't call me like you use to." Maryanne asked as soon as she heard him. Only if she knew the reason he always called to check up on her. It was his normal style, it helped build his confidence. He was about to before she called, anyway.

"I wanted to." It wasn't a lie, though. There wasn't a day he doesn't call by that time.

"Okay, whatever. I called you because, I wanted to remind you about the food I left in the microwave. I totally forgot. Silly me."

"Oh, okay. I will check that now. And thanks." He wasn't happy because of the food. He was excited because, he was confident, she had reached, and it was time for his fun day to get started.

"Byyeee... Love you!" She said before hanging up.

Aden ran his fingers through his messy blonde hair as he thoughtlessly stared into the façade vacantly. He was overwhelmed with joy because of the way girls threw themselves at him and how he had obliged to fuck each one of them.

Many of them were still very eager to have him rail them, and he never missed on those kinds of chances as long as his girlfriend was gone by morning. And that was the reason, he called every morning to be sure she was at the company. There was a day things nearly leaked. He was just about to have sex with one of his female friends when, he heard, her car park. It turned out she forgot some files at home. Though she didn't catch him in the act but, she was provoked, he brought someone in. And since then, he called to make sure, she was really gone.

At this point, happiness was an understatement because, one of the girls would soon come knocking at his door. He was ready to do his bidding in whichever way he wanted it.

He quickly jumped down the bed, while in his white sleeveless shirt and black shorts. Furthermore, he wedged his feet into Maryanne's pair of clogs before walking happily towards the window. He had to peep outside for a while before he saw her. Looking outside, he could discern her petite blonde figure dressed in an ash crop top and pants emerging from an alley.

"There she is." He mumbled and licked his lower lips. She was still a bit far.

The silence outside was perfect and the sky was blue with intermittent patches of white clouds, you could hear a pin drop.

Oh, it really felt good to be him, he thought before walking towards the door to let in one of the many women who'd shown interest in him since Maryanne became his girlfriend. The weirdest part was the fact that none of them wanted his money. That used to be his primary instinct about women, but circumstances had proven him wrong. They all want a good dick.

Things used to be better before now, but the kind of life he lived had sent threading towards a dangerous path. He used to be a rich guy before now, just the perfect guy any woman would want, but years of gambling, partying and indulging in women made him a shadow of what he used to be, financially. Poverty now stuck to him like a leech, and he was doing his best to get out of it. He got so broke to the extent, his friends left him, his father disowned him for making their company go bankrupt.

Yes, he was the cause of that. His father, gave him charge of the company since he was the only one fit. His father was ill, his elder brother wasn't in the state as he had matters to settle and his younger sister, was still in school.

And that was how he began to spend money and barely contributed anything to the company.

His father got so angry and disowned him. Even his mother was disappointed in him. Everyone left him, and he had nothing else to survive on, so, he sold his house to raise some money. But it all ended in women and gambling.

His girlfriend, Maryanne, knew nothing about this and only wanted to support him throughout his difficult moments. She never asked questions, as she feared it might be inappropriate, but instead, she did her best to help him in any way she could until he was back on his ground. And to show him how much she loved him.

And as he got homeless, Maryanne asked him to come squat with her, at her apartment until he finds his feet and things go back to normal. But things were getting worse instead, still she didn't mind. She was ready to take care of them and hoped to see him change someday and become a better man, but, her grapes of hope were slowing turning into raisins of despair. She gave him everything he wanted despite the kind of mental stress she went through at her workplace. It wasn't easy. All she did, she did for love.

Despite all the sacrifices she had made to sustain their relationship, it wasn't working out as she expected but, she was still hanging on the thin thread of hope which Aiden was fighting so hard to snap. Aiden himself sometimes wondered about how things would work out between them. There was no doubt that he got sometimes worried, and he was forced to think about what would happen if she ever discovered the kind of life he lived, even in the house. That would be disastrous, surely but, it had already become his second nature. He was a proud flirt with no conscience.

Aiden's life was one whirl of a mess, and there was no expectation he would change in the nearest future. He always had a way of covering up his tracks and using them against his girlfriend whenever she suspected that he was cheating or that he had done something wrong.

They had been together for four good years, and every one of it brought Maryanne a renewed sense of pain and hopelessness. That was not for Aiden, who seemed to be enjoying life to the fullest. There was nothing else he could have wished for. And he aspired to keep it going for as long as.

The heavy thud of the release stamp was the only goodbye I got from the warden after five years in federal prison. I stepped out into the blinding sun, expecting the same flash of paparazzi bulbs that had seen me dragged away in handcuffs, but there was only a single black limousine idling on the shoulder of the road. Inside sat my mother and sister, clutching champagne and looking at my frayed coat with pure disgust. They didn't offer a welcome home; instead, they tossed a thick legal document onto the table and told me I was dead to the city. "Gavin and I are getting engaged," my sister Mia sneered, flicking a credit card at me like I was a stray dog. "He doesn't need a convict ex-fiancée hanging around." Even after I saved their lives from an armed kidnapping attempt by ramming the attackers off the road, they rewarded me by leaving me stranded in the dirt. When I finally ran into Gavin, the man who had framed me, he pinned me against a wall and threatened to send me back to a cell if I ever dared to show my face at their wedding. They had stolen my biotech research, ruined my name, and let me rot for half a decade while they lived off my brilliance. They thought they had broken me, leaving me with nothing but an expired chapstick and a few old photos in a plastic bag. What they didn't know was that I had spent those five years becoming "Dr. X," a shadow consultant with five hundred million dollars in crypto and a secret that would bring the city to its knees. I wasn't just a victim anymore; I was a weapon, and I was pregnant with the heir they thought they had erased. I walked into the Melton estate and made an offer to the most powerful man in New York. "I'll save your grandfather's life," I told Horatio Melton, staring him down. "But the price is your last name. I'm taking back what's mine, and I'm starting with the man who thinks he's marrying my sister."

The rain in Detroit was slick with grime when my family finally came to fetch me. They didn't want a reunion; they wanted a sacrificial lamb to marry into the Kaufman empire to save their failing business. I thought I was just being sold off, but the limo ride ended under a dark overpass where six hired thugs were waiting with chains. My own sister had ordered them to "break my spirit" so I’d be a shaking, pathetic mess by the time I reached the altar. They called me "Detroit trash" and sprayed air freshener when I sat on their leather seats. My stepmother wanted a video of me begging for my life, and my father was ready to trade me like a used car to a man everyone called a "vegetable." They expected a submissive country girl, unaware that I was a high-level "cleaner" who could snap a radius bone before they could even scream. When I finally reached the Kaufman estate, I found my fiancé, Barron, slumped in a wheelchair, drooling and silent. But as soon as the doors closed, the "invalid" grabbed my wrist with a grip of iron and whispered a command that changed everything. I didn't understand why my own blood was so desperate to see me destroyed. What had I ever done to deserve a hit squad and a forced marriage to a man they thought was a corpse? But Barron isn't a vegetable, and I'm not a victim. We just touched down at the Moon family gala in a matte-black helicopter, and as the doors slide open, the "broken" bride is about to show them exactly what happens when you throw away the wrong daughter. "If we're going to crash a party," Barron whispered, his eyes burning with lethal clarity, "we should make an entrance."

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.
