Chapter 1 THE HALLOW INVITATION

The wind howled through the dense trees of the ancient forest, carrying with it a sense of foreboding that seemed to cling to every leaf and branch. Deep within the heart of this dark wilderness stood Holloway Manor, a dilapidated mansion that had long been forgotten by time and shrouded in whispers of the macabre.

Lily stood before the mansion's towering gates, her heart pounding in her chest like a frantic drumbeat. She couldn't believe the turn her life had taken, the cruel twist of fate that had brought her to this ominous place. The memory of her parents' desperate faces as they tearfully handed her over to the sinister Lord Holloway was etched into her mind, a haunting image that she couldn't shake.

The mansion's façade loomed over her, its grandeur tarnished by years of neglect. Ivy crawled up the walls like skeletal fingers, and the windows stared out like empty eyes, cold and lifeless. The air was heavy with a palpable sense of unease, as if the very walls of the manor were whispering secrets that no one dared to hear.

Lily hesitated, her trembling hand reaching out to grasp the iron handle of the gate. It swung open with a rusty groan, revealing a pathway that wound through overgrown gardens and led to the mansion's entrance. As she walked, her footsteps seemed to echo eerily, as though the mansion itself was watching her every move.

Inside, the entrance hall was a cavernous space, its grandeur lost to time and neglect. Faded portraits of stern-faced ancestors lined the walls, their eyes seeming to follow her as she moved. A chill crept up her spine, and she pulled her coat tighter around herself, feeling as though she was being watched by more than just painted figures.

"Miss Lily, welcome to Holloway Manor," a voice cooed from the shadows. Lily jumped, her heart racing as she turned to see a figure emerging from the darkness. It was a woman dressed in a faded gown, her features pallid and her eyes hollow. She curtsied with a semblance of elegance, though her movements seemed disjointed and otherworldly.

"Who are you?" Lily managed to stammer, her voice trembling.

"I am Eliza, a servant of this house," the woman replied, her voice a soft whisper that seemed to carry a weight of sadness. "I have been bound to this place for longer than I can remember, a victim of the same fate that now befalls you."

Lily's heart sank as she took in Eliza's words. She had heard the rumors, the stories of Holloway Manor's cursed history, but she had never imagined that they could be true.

"Lord Holloway will be pleased to finally meet you," Eliza continued, her tone filled with a strange mixture of reverence and resignation. "He has been waiting for you, his chosen bride."

Lily's blood ran cold. Chosen bride? The words echoed in her mind like a death knell, and a sickening realization dawned upon her. She was not here by choice; she was a pawn in a twisted game she had never signed up for.

As Eliza led Lily deeper into the mansion, the air grew colder, and the shadows seemed to lengthen and shift, taking on eerie shapes that danced at the periphery of her vision. The walls seemed to pulse with a malevolent energy, and Lily felt as though she was descending into a nightmare she couldn't wake up from.
