Chapter 1 ONE

There are very few things in this world that some of us may say leave a lasting impression not just on our minds but our souls. Emotions like, love, hate, fear but for Her the strongest of them all was the need for revenge.

He had taken everything from her, ripped her family apart and made it seem as though it was nothing more than a walk through the park. She was done with that and she wanted revenge. She wouldn't stop until she knew that he felt the same pain they coursed through her veins and when she was done he would be unrecognizable.

....

Alex was snapped out of her face when she heard a loud slamming sound as a stack of papers was suddenly dropped on her desk. She jolted up tight as she cleared her eyes and furrowed her brows before turning her attention towards the noise.

Her boss Vivian stood in front of her with her hands resting on her hips and a raised eyebrow.

"Sleeping on the job?" Was the question that left her chapped lips. It wasn't unusual for Alex to disappoint this woman, actually what was unusual was for Alex to be able to do something that would impress her.

She sat up straight as she fixed her suit jacket and tried to blink away the tiredness from her eyes. It was hard for her to be able to function knowing that at that point she was mostly going off two hours of sleep.

Her eyes traveled towards the stack of papers before her and she furrowed her eyebrows as they noticed that it was the latest piece that she had written on the Billionaire Joseph Ford.

"Is there a problem Maggie ." She asked and she watched as the woman scoffed. "You may be talented but these are getting old. I don't know what skeletons you are trying to dig up but this man had none. His closets ate clear. You have to move on from this obsession of yours. Can't you see that it is unhealthy." She asked her in frustration.

Alex didn't answer her because the truth was that she had tried to move on but she couldn't, it would mean that she was disappointing her dad and abandoning her morals.

"I can't move on. I know that he and Jessica broke up on good terms but I know there is something more. You have to give me time." She said to her in an almost Pleading tone. Her behavior was pathetic and she knew it wasn't for her. That was what desperation would do to you.

"I don't know how to tell you this but I can't have you wasting resources on a story that would never stick. The people love that man. He is the biggest name in tech and you have used all of his Ford tech. You are using his phone right now. And yet you carry hatred for him. If you don't stop this need to bring him down I will have no other choice than to be forced to make you take a back seat till further notice." Maggie spoke and Alex couldn't help but feel her heart drop at her words.

It was as though a knife was being cut through her flesh. She tightened her grip on her engraved pencil as she took in a deep breath. "I will give you the cat lady instead." She muttered and she watched what almost looked like a smile appeared on her face before she turned and began to walk away.

Once she was out of sight, Alex huffed in frustration as she banged her head against the desk. She was so close and she had thought that this article showing the hospital visits and the fights that they had days before the divorce would be able to pin something on him. She didn't want to simply jail him. She wanted him to pay for everything he had done.

He painted himself out to be a knight but she knew all too well that he hid scales behind that armor. The rest of her day much to her dismay was spent googling Patricia the cat lady. It was the topic that had been given to her after all, it was to show her place in the company or whatever that was supposed to mean.

She was still new, barely out of an internship position and yet here she was. She couldn't help but feel her heart jump in her chest at the thought of it all.

She was beyond relieved when the day finally trickled to an end and she was more than ready to leave. She had enough of all the drama as it was. On her way out she slotted one of their display monitors and froze when she saw a familiar face plastered on it.

"So Mr. Ford, what do you have planned next for your corporation?" The lady asked as she leaned towards him. Her chest was in full view which made her scoff at the sight, even a blind man could tell that. He was quite handsome to look at but she could never find herself stooping down to the level of exposing herself to him.

She wouldn't be caught dead trying to get his attention. "Well I have a big project coming up. It is said to change the world of tech and make the internet more accessible." He said and the interviewer widened her eyes.

"More accessible than your phones, laptops and smart watches?" She asked in a high-pitched tone.

"Careful there. With the way you are staring at that screen, one might think that you are fangirling him." She heard a voice call out. She turned towards it quickly backwards to find Luke, her co-worker, staring at her with a wide grin. The two of them had a love-hate relationship and although there were times that she found herself tempted to smash his head in, she had to admit that he was good at his job.

"The day that you find me ogling over him is the day I die." She spat as she made her way towards the elevators.

"Never say never." He called out after her and she had no idea how true those words were about to become for her.
