Daughter's Revenge Chapter 1 BOOK ONE: CHAPTER ONE

Henry smiled as he watched the sky. Angel would arrive at any moment. Why shouldn't he smile? He remembered their last conversation.......he wanted to experience it again. They had planned to meet at JJ shop at 10:00am but it was just 9:33am. He was too impatient....but for her,it was worth it.

After waiting for a few minutes, he checked his wristwatch. Goodness! It was 9:38am! The time was too slow. His patience was already reaching its limits but who could he blame? It was all his fault for being so anxious.

Then, he saw an Angel-like figure from afar. He guessed that it was Angel and was very glad. The figure became clearer and he was disappointed when he realized that it was not Angel - it was Bridget!

He remembered that during his second year in the university, Bridget had made several advances to him but he had ignored them. Out of frustration, she confessed her love to him but he couldn't accept it. After much persuasion, he revealed to her that he loves Angel.

**********

"What!" Bridget exclaimed. "How could you fall in love with a girl like her?"

"What is that supposed to mean?" Henry demanded, irritated.

"Angel would never accept you as her boyfriend.... you know how big of a church girl she is." She emphasized.

"That shouldn't bother you. It's my business to handle." He said, unconvinced.

"Why stress yourself Henry..... " She paused and moved closer to him. "When you have me." She added as she tried to touch him. "I'm all yours."

"Stop it!" He screamed. "I'll advise you to let me be. It's for your own good." He said with an air of finality.

Henry found himself laughing when he remembered Bridget's words.

"Angel would never accept you as her boyfriend.....you know how big of a church girl she is."

Indeed, time flies. He recalled that a few days after that incident, Bridget had gone to meet him.

++++++

"Henry" Bridget called softly. "I understand that you don't love me but I love you so much...... "

"Listen..... " Henry interrupted.

"No,no,no" she also interrupted him. "I am not going to force you to accept my love." She paused and watched his reaction. He seemed to calm down.

"So what do you want?" He asked.

"A date" she said and Henry widened his eyes. "Just a date for one night and I won't bother you again." She saw Henry shrug. He did not seem to agree.

"Please Henry..... I want to have a memory of you and I spending time together."

Henry was not satisfied with her answer. He sensed deception. What on earth was she up to? He wondered.

"Wait a sec....do you consider me an enemy?" Bridget asked with a serious look on her face.

"No, I don't," Henry replied.

"Then...."

"Fine!..... just a date" Henry agreed reluctantly. "And after that you won't bother me again." He added.

"Sure!" Bridget chuckled. "I'm certain it's gonna be wonderful."

"Just remember your words." Henry told her.

On D-Day, he took Bridget to a restaurant. They ordered delicious meals and ate it. The meals were probably the only things Henry enjoyed on his date with Bridget. Anytime Bridget tried to bring up a topic to discuss, Henry would give her cold answers.

The date was very boring and Bridget didn't like it. She ordered drinks and urged Henry to join her in drinking. Initially, Henry refused. But he remembered that after that day, she would let him be so he decided to give it a shot. Too bad for him, he wasn't good at drinking. A few shots were enough to get him drunk, then unconscious.

In the next few minutes, he woke up and saw himself in Bridget's room. She had taken him to her house and it annoyed him.

"What the hell am I doing here?" He demanded and Bridget made a face meaning that she did not understand his words.

"Why am I here?" He asked, trying to be as calm as possible.

"Well....I had no idea that you are such a lightweight." She said sarcastically. "You passed out, then I brought you here......is that a bad thing?"

"Besides..." She continued. "Bringing you here was not an easy task....yet all I get is you shouting at me" she added feigning annoyance.

Just then Bridget's little sister walked up into the room. "Is he your boyfriend?" She asked innocently and Bridget smiled. "You look great together." The little girl added.

Henry felt extremely irritated. He just left the house in anger.

++++++

Ever since that incident, he had not spoken to Bridget. He avoided her and ignored her calls. Now the Bridget he had been avoiding was walking towards him when he was expecting Angel. Such ill-luck! Finally, she got to him and smiled.

"Hello Henry" she greeted.

Henry ignored her greeting. He hated her and did not want to have anything to do with her. He did not want Angel to see him with her especially now that he has a chance to win her (Angel) heart completely.

"What do you want?" He demanded.

"Henry, I'm pregnant.." she announced.

"So how is that my busi....."

"For you" she completed her statement and Henry stared at her in disbelief.

"You must be joking. I think you are out of your mind." He said with much skepticism.

"I'm not joking," She said.

Henry noticed that she sounded serious. He saw her bring out some papers from her bag, then stretched it towards him.

"Have a look," she told him but he refused to take a look.

Henry could still not recover from the shock. Suddenly, he remembered his father's words.

"One more nonsense from you and I'm going to disown you. Trust me son, this time I mean it. I've had enough!"

Henry's father, Mark, was a rich business mogul. He was the founder and owner of the popular RICHARD DON EMPIRE. As a successful person, he had lots of competitors.... Perhaps you could call some of them enemies. They were willing to do anything to bring him down.

Mark ensured that he gave them no room for that. He was very careful but he was blessed with such a careless son.

Henry was the direct opposite of his father.

Henry never liked business. He dreamed of being an artist but his father would never permit that. He was forced to study business administration. That way, he would be able to take over his father's business when he grows old. But Henry never seemed to get out of trouble. The last time he got arrested along with other young guys as suspects of robbery. The press took that as an opportunity to write stories.

THE OF SON RICHARD MARK WAS ARRESTED BY THE POLICE AS A SUSPECT OF ARMED ROBBERY. People wondered if he had the ability to take over his father's company. WILL RICHARD DON EMPIRE CRUSH AT HENRY'S TAKEOVER? Different stories and rumors spread. Mark was annoyed and gave Henry a warning for the last time. What was he going to do? He wondered. His father would definitely disown him if Bridget's words were true.

"Henry?..." Bridget's voice brought him back to reality. "Back then, after our date, I had an affair with you." she confessed.

"What!..... aren't you ashamed?" Henry asked in disgust.

"No, I'm not," she replied shamelessly.

"Your father is rich....why should I be ashamed?" She asked without any emotion. "Henry....I don't have plans to continue schooling... it's expensive.... let's just get married...." She was cut short by Henry's sudden laughter.

"You're crazy Brie" he said as he laughed harder. "I don't believe a word from you." he added and began to walk away from her.

"Henry!" She screamed. "I'm not joking."

Henry refused to listen to her. He continued working until he was out of her sight. Then he sighted Angel walking towards him. He tried to look cheerful like before but it was difficult. Bridget had ruined his good mood.

Angel got closer and finally reached him. He forced a smile.

"Hi Henry" she said smiling.

"Hello Angel" he responded, trying to keep his tone neutral.

"I'm sorry I'm late." Angel apologized. "By the way, this isn't where we were supposed to meet." She added and noticed the worried look on his face.

"Is everything alright?" She asked.

"Yeah" he forced another smile but Angel wasn't fooled.

"What's wrong?" She asked disturbed.

She touched his chin and made him look at her. "Talk to me." she added with much concern.

"Nothing..... I just had a misunderstanding with my friend and he asked me to leave his shop." He lied.

"That's not good." She said, "Let's go back and meet him. Tell me what happened on our way back and I'll think of a way to sort it out." She suggested.

"No.... it's alright." He refused politely. "I came here to take you out and nothing else."

"But...."

"No 'but' " he insisted. "It's not the first time my friend and I have had a misunderstanding. We'll settle it later." He assured her and she gave in.

They walked until they got to a restaurant known as HOTSPOT RESTAURANT. It was a popular restaurant and was well known for its good services and tasty meals. Anyone who had eaten in that restaurant always had one or two good things to say about it. Most guys take their girlfriends to the restaurant to enjoy themselves. Henry did not want to be left out although Angel wasn't officially his girlfriend.......yet.

Henry and Angel entered the restaurant and sat down. Lots of people were having fun and Henry wondered how much money the owner would be making. Before Henry could order for anything, his phone started ringing. He brought out his phone from his pocket and saw that the caller was his father, Mark.

Henry wondered why his father was calling him. Why was everyone trying to ruin his date with Angel? First it was his little sister, Stella. She refused to let him leave the house but luckily, he outsmarted her and left. Then it was Bridget and now his father was trying to disturb his day. He sighed before picking the call.

"Hello Dad," he said.

"Henry!" Mark's voice roared. "Where are you?"

"In a restaurant" Henry replied, trying to think of the mistake he had made again.

"Come home quickly," Mark commanded.

"But...."

"I said come home! It's very important!"

Mark screamed angrily and cut the call.

Henry felt terrible. Today was supposed to be his most memorable day with Angel. Why are all these things happening? He wondered.

"What's wrong?" Angel asked. "Did something happen between you and your dad?"

"No.......but he wants me home" he informed her and looked at her expecting to see a negative reaction from her but she gave him a reassuring smile.

"It's okay, just go home. We can go out some other time." She told him as she stood up.

"Thank you so much for understanding." He said and he stood up as well. "Do you mind walking me home?" He asked.

"No....not at all"

I went to the City Clerk’s office for a routine copy of my marriage license to finalize a trust fund audit. I expected a simple piece of paper, but the clerk’s pitying look told me my entire life was a lie. "The license was never finalized, Ms. Oliver. In the eyes of the state, you are single." The three-hundred-guest wedding at the Plaza and the Vogue features meant nothing. My husband, Gray Cooley, had intentionally filed the documents with a "procedural defect" so he could discard me without a legal divorce. Moments later, an iCloud invite titled "Our Little Secret" popped up on my screen. It was a photo of my best friend, Brylee, holding a positive pregnancy test at our Hamptons estate. Gray’s text to her was the final blow: "Happy anniversary, babe. This baby is the best gift. Once the trust unlocks today, we’re done with the charade." I soon discovered they were even stealing my career, reassigning my architectural masterpiece to Brylee while preparing my eviction notice. Gray's mother called me a "barren mule" in a leaked recording, mocking the infertility I suffered after saving Gray’s life in a construction accident. I wasn't a wife; I was a three-year placeholder used to secure his inheritance. How could the man I bled for treat me like a disposable prop? How could my best friend carry his child while pretending to comfort me through my darkest moments? The betrayal burned until it turned into a cold, hard stone of fury. I didn't cry. Instead, I walked into the penthouse of the Barretts, the Cooleys' most powerful rivals. I signed a marriage contract with Kane Barrett, the man the tabloids called the "Beast of Wall Street." "I want a wedding," I told his father, my voice steady and lethal. "Bigger than the one I had with Gray." If they wanted me gone, they would have to watch me become the woman who owns their world.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch—a titan of industry and my best friend’s father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

I woke up on silk sheets that smelled of expensive cedar and cold sandalwood, a world away from my cramped apartment in Brooklyn. Beside me lay Ezra Gardner—my boss, the billionaire CEO of Gardner Holdings, and the man who could end my career with a snap of his fingers. He didn’t offer an apology for the night before; instead, he looked at me with terrifying clarity and proposed a cold, calculated business arrangement. "Marriage. It stabilizes the board and solves the PR crisis before it begins." He dressed me in archival Chanel and sent me home in his Maybach, but my life was already falling apart. My boyfriend, Irving, claimed he had passed out early, yet his location data placed him at my best friend’s apartment until three in the morning. When I tried to run, I realized Ezra was already ten steps ahead, tracking my movements and uncovering the secret I’d spent twenty years hiding: my connection to the powerful Senator Grimes. I was trapped between a CEO who treated me like a line item on a quarterly report and a boyfriend who had been using me while sleeping with my closest friend. I felt like a pawn in a game I didn't understand, wondering why a man like Ezra would walk up forty flights of stairs on a broken leg just to make sure I was safe. "Showtime, Mrs. Gardner." Standing on the red carpet in a gown that cost more than my life, I watched my cheating ex-boyfriend’s face turn pale as Ezra claimed me in front of the world. I wasn't just an assistant anymore; I was a weapon, and it was time to burn their world down.

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.
