Months ago, a case of mistaken identity set off a chain reaction that ended with Millicent Haworth pregnant with ruthless billionaire; Tommy Bradford's child. Her plan is to have his child and maybe, some day in the future tell him about it and let him decide if he wants to be a part of their life. All of a sudden, he's sweeping back into her life and making her feel things she shouldn't be feeling. Millie knows what they have is temporary and there's no future where someone like him ends up with someone like her, but it doesn't stop her from falling a little bit harder every day. She knows he's going to break her heart at the end and there's nothing she can do about it.
Four weeks ago
Millie had ignored every other sign her body had thrown at her. A missed period was the first sign, but she had put it off as a late period and carried on. She had read somewhere that stress could be the cause of such things and she was a card carrying member of the stressed out and burned out club; badge and all. The throwing up and general weakness, constant peeing and endless hunger she ignored too.
Millie was and had always been careful about things like that, there was no way on God's green earth that she could be pregnant. She took her pills and used protection, always. And she hadn't had sex in a while.
What about that night? Her subconscious was roaring at her.
She brushed that thought right off, refusing stubbornly to think about that night.
But no matter how much she tried to forget, she couldn't Ignore the reality that was two pink lines staring accusingly at her, or the other five variations of you're pregnant from the other pregnancy tests. She had bought six. Sue her for liking to be extra certain about things like this. This was in the same category- as far as she was concerned- as a nuclear explosion. Her world had just imploded.
The thought of getting rid of the life growing inside her never even crossed her mind. It might have been a stupid reason to make a decision to raise a whole human, but the women in her family had been cursed with severe fertility issues, most of them going through literal hell to keep their pregnancies. Millie had always wanted kids, lots and lots of them. Growing up an only child she had to admit had had its advantages, but she couldn't deny that it had been lonely. Sure, her plan was to meet the right man and have a family, but you know what they said about best laid plans. She was twenty three, maybe a little too young to be throwing her life into upheaval like this, but she wanted this baby. She touched her still flat stomach with a smile. She couldn't wait.
