Chapter 1 An encounter with the werewolf

Euphoria's POV

"Ring... ring.." The shrilling, or better put, annoying sound of my alarm dragged me out of the only serenity I get each day which is sleep.

There's just something exhilarating about sleep, the calmness, how numb you are to the reality of the real world, how peaceful and restful your mind is while asleep, and the sweet dreams that happen to be an escape from the cruel world.

'Ugh!' I groaned out in annoyance. Today being Friday made it even worse, Fridays have to be the busiest days at the library - weekends are when people read the most as the majority are always less busy and need an escape from the gruesome stress of the weekdays.

Don't get me wrong, I 'love' my job. People can just be very annoying and impossible at times.

I got up from my bed and entered the bathroom to carry out my normal morning routine while humming to one of my favorite songs.

I strolled to one of the largest libraries in the city, which is not far from my apartment. it is a twenty-minute walk.

I entered the library and only waved at my colleagues who greeted me, I barely had any friends. It's just so hard to see people who love you intentionally nowadays, or it's just me who's too weird to be associated with, I don't know.

My antisocial personality made me work as a librarian. I'd rather bury myself in books, snuggled in thick covers while basking in pizza than see people's faces or attend to people who want to do what I wish to. But bills need to be paid, can't be done without a sustainable income.

"Good morning Euphoria." Tracy, a co-worker who happens to be the only one I converse with on trivial matters greeted me.

"Hey, Tracy." I greeted back with a smile.

"Our favorite day of the week, isn't it?" She asked rhetorically with a ghost smile on her face.

"Murder me already. My headache will increase tenfold in the next thirty minutes." I said exactly what happened.

Different people rushing towards the shelves, searching for books they added to their to-read list, those who needed help finding them, and those who needed to be clarified all almost made me dizzy.

I've been working as a librarian for close to a year here, but I've never seen the library filled this way.

What happened?

Did the whole of New York discover a writer whose skills are too good to be true?

"Miss!" A screech sounded really close to my ear which made my already pounding head worse.

"Hi..." I replied with a fake smile to be met with a woman looking down at me in disgust.

"If you had mental issues, you shouldn't have come to work, that's very unprofessional, I screamed out at you for your attention for a moment but all I got was silence. Wanted to tap you but I couldn't afford to taint my newly manicured hands on your clothes." She snarled.

The fuck?!

Mental issues?

"Cats still have your tongue?" She asked again.

"You really need to be treated as soon as possible... Never seen someone zone out the number of times you have since the past five minutes I've seen your bland face." She said and walked away.

"Met the infamous Miss Tennessee already?" A voice said from behind me, startling me.

I looked back to see a very beautiful woman with features only A-listed models have.

Most faces I've seen in the library today seem to be unnaturally gorgeous.

"Is that her name?" I asked, pointing in the direction of the rude woman.

"Yes, you don't know her?" She mentioned and moved a bit closer to me as if sniffing me.

Weird.

"Oh, shoot. You're human." She smiled.

Ugh?

"We are all humans, Right?" I said, looking at her in confusion.

"You won't understand, child." She murmured and patted me on my shoulder while turning around swiftly.

Child?

She looks to be around my age, how the fuck am I a kid to her?

'Too many people are under the influence of drugs.' I thought to myself.

Why is everything and everyone so weird today?

"Euphoria! Where have you been? The supervisor even thought you did not show up for work when he didn't catch sight of you for the past two hours." Tracy inquired, jogging over to me and panting.

"Sorry... I've been pretty occupied." I replied.

"Are you okay? You look shaken up." She assessed.

"Yeah..." I was assured.

We walked towards the staff's cubicle and I buried myself in swiping customers cards for the books they borrowed.

The real closing time for the library is 7 p.m., but today being Friday and a very busy one, we closed by 8 p.m.

I gathered my stuff, greeted the supervisor and Tracy "Goodnight" and started to detour towards my apartment.

Everywhere was pretty dark, the crescent moonlight adding only a shadow glint, the streetlamps pretty dim.

I was walking through an alleyway when I heard a snapping jaws sound and a scream somewhere close behind me.

I turned around swiftly and froze when I saw a very strange creature, like a dog.

Oh my goodness!!!

No!

A wolf. It had furs, very sharp claws, bent over like a real wolf, and fangs tearing into a man grotesquely like meat.

The creature tore into the man's chest, brought out his heart, and dropped it on the floor like a normal thing.

He turned around, his midnight-glowing dark eyes boring into me viciously.

Suddenly, the air was being knocked out of me as a figure pushed me out of the way against the ground.

The man who jumped in front of me when the terrifying creature wanted to move onto me fought it in an unnatural way.

His strength and movement look very sleek and faster than a shadow.

The man fought the creature and even though he fought it with his hands, he managed to make the creature unconscious.

He turned around and his chocolate soft brown eyes melted into mine, eyes so brown that they looked like my favorite chocolate.

It's him!!!

That man.
