Chapter 1 The Rejection

"I, Adrian Alpha of Belvain pack, reject you to be my mate."

Adrian's words hung in the night air, a cruel melody that shattered the fragile pieces of my world. The moon above bore witness to the crushing weight of his rejection, casting shadows on the pain etched across my face.

His voice echoed through the clearing, each syllable cutting deeper than the last. A collective gasp swept through the pack members assembled, their eyes a mix of curiosity and morbid delight. I stood frozen, the sting of tears blurring my vision as the reality of his rejection sank in.

"Why?" I managed to choke out, my voice barely audible over the hushed whispers that filled the night.

Adrian's gaze remained cold and distant, his features hardened as if my existence offended him. He looked at me with disgust as he scoffed.

"You're an Omega. I need a mate who can strengthen our pack, not drag it down."

A bitter taste coated my tongue, the words settling like poison in my veins. The pack members exchanged knowing glances, their amusement evident. I felt the weight of their judgment, their disdain for the girl who dared to dream beyond her station.

As I turned to leave, humiliation burning hot on my cheeks, a mocking laughter erupted from the crowd. "Looks like Lily's dreams of becoming an Alpha's mate are nothing but fantasy."

Tears blurred my vision, but I refused to let them fall. I took a deep breath, my heart breaking with each step away from the scene. In the shadows, I turned to see Emily, my own twin sister, a twisted satisfaction playing on her lips. Betrayal seeped from her every pore.

I felt like a discarded potato and was ignored as I walked to sit at the side of the room. It was my birthday today, well mine and my twin sister's birthday.

And the father had wanted to have it during the alpha's son's mating ball.

I thought I would find my mate, which I did only for me to be rejected like a failed science project. It hurts, it burns and it pains me. I wanted to curse the goddess out of anger for making me an omega not a beta like my father or my sister.

As I was lost in my own terrible painful thoughts, Adrian, fueled by a newfound desire, approached Emily, which led me to feel confused.

Their eyes locked, a dark understanding passing between them. Without a word, he pulled her into a possessive kiss that sent shockwaves through the assembled wolves.

"I, Adrian, Alpha of Belvain pack, chose Emily as my mate."

The words hit me like a second rejection, the realization of my sister's deceit cutting deeper than any physical pain. The pack erupted into cheers, blind to the treachery that unfolded before them.

Emily, her lips still tinged with the taste of victory, glanced at me with a cold indifference. It was a betrayal that went beyond the rejection; it was a betrayal of sisterhood. As they celebrated the union of Alpha and sister of the rejected Omega, my world crumbled.

The night air, once filled with dreams and aspirations, now carried the bitterness of shattered trust. It was as if I was struck by a thunderbolt. My twin, who should be my closest ally, now accepted by the very Alpha who had rejected me. The pack erupted in cheers, their joy at the union of an Alpha and the sister of an Omega palpable.

I stood close to the door, I could hear my heart breaking from within my mind. The one person I thought would stand by me had chosen a path that left me abandoned and alone. As the celebration continued, Emily's eyes met mine briefly but she acted as if I was nothing but a stranger.

I stood there, tears mixing with the dirt on my face, as my father, Bernard, approached with a cold rage in his eyes. He seized me by the hair, his grip unyielding, as he dragged me away from the scene. The pack members, indifferent to my suffering, carried on with their happiness, for my fate was merely a footnote in the celebration of an Alpha's union. Like who cares about a n omega being beaten by her father? No one.

As I was dragged away to the car I watched my twin sister being happy in my mate's arms.

We were twins by blood, but our paths diverged like two branches torn apart by a ruthless storm. She, the chosen one, and I, the discarded Omega, destined to endure the wrath of a father blinded by societal expectations.

As my father's harsh fingers dug into my scalp, I glimpsed the cold gaze of my stepmother, Jennifer, observing the spectacle with a calculating demeanor. She, too, had played a part in this twisted narrative, molding Emily into the favored daughter while I became the sacrificial lamb.

During the car ride back, the silence was oppressive, broken only by Jennifer's cold voice. "You think you could live the life of an Alpha's queen? Dreaming too high, Lily," she sneered, looking out the window.

" Husband, " Jennifer said, " Would we be invited to the alpha's home for the wedding? "

The mention of the upcoming wedding between Alpha Adrian and Emily hung in the air like a guillotine poised to sever the last threads of my dignity.

Bernard smiled, "Of course we will my love, Emily always makes us proud, unlike some scum" he then looked at me with disgust, I may not be looking at him face to face but I could feel it on my skin.

The hatred.

Upon reaching home, the car door swung open, and Bernard, without a word, pushed me out with a brutal force. I stumbled, landing on the cold ground, the pain in my heart mirrored by the ache in my bruised body.

The door slammed shut, leaving me in the dust as the car sped away, probably back to the mating ball.

I lingered outside the gate, the biting cold seeping into my bones as snowflakes adorned my hair like crystalline tears.

There was no solace in the howling wind, only the relentless reminder of my isolation.

Eventually, the headlights of a returning car sliced through the darkness around midnight. Bernard's vehicle pulled up, and my heart sank as Emily emerged beside him. The triumphant glint in her eyes hinted at the satisfaction she derived from my suffering.

"Get inside the house Lily. We have unfinished business," Bernard commanded, his tone devoid of sympathy.

"We've been lenient enough," Bernard spat out, his anger palpable. "Lily, you've betrayed your sister and disrespected the Alpha by thinking that you would be his mate. There will be consequences and as your father I must fulfill my duty."

Once inside, the air thickened with tension as Bernard laid down his judgment. "Forty-six strokes for trying to steal your sister's mate. Another twenty for simply being Lily."

My eyes widened in fear, he had only flogged me 20 strokes highest.

"But father, it's a blessing from the goddess it wasn't my choice"

My protests fell on deaf ears as he continued, "You should have known your place. Your sister was to marry Adrian from the beginning, you knew that and you dared to challenge that."

I was holding my chest in pain as I cried. "He approached me first" still no sympathy, nothing and I was left with tears running down my cheeks in pain.

As the first lash cut through the air, I bit my lip to stifle the pain. Each strike was a brutal reminder of my defiance, and yet, I refused to let them break my spirit.

"Stop, Father," Emily interjected, her voice laced with feigned concern. "Isn't that enough?"

But her eyes betrayed the twisted pleasure she derived from my suffering. "Please, Lily, apologize and acknowledge your mistake," she added, the words dripping with insincerity.

I gathered my strength, defending my actions amidst the agonizing lashes. "Mates are meant to be together by destiny, not manipulation. I did nothing wrong in following my heart."

Bernard scoffed at my words, the blows intensifying. "You think you understand the intricacies of our pack's fate? Your insolence knows no bounds."

Emily's intervention grew more pronounced, a façade of innocence clouding her true intentions. "Stop, Father. She's learned her lesson."

Things have not always been like this between us. Emily use to be my shoulder to cry on before our mom died and our dad found his second chance mate. she use to be the one that defends me from bullies because I was weak but everything changed when our step mother entered our lives.

she discarded me because she felt like I was just a burden to her and abandoning me made our step mom like her and made her look cool to other kids in school, that was when the bullying got worse and I started getting beating at home.

I was optimistic that everything would be fine one day and that my mate would save me from this hell hole. That was the only thing that kept my wolf and I going, I just never thought that I would be Rejected by my mate and that he would chose my twin sister over me.

Guess I should have saw that coming as Emily has always been the better, stronger and prettier twin. She shifted at the normal age of 13 unlike me who has not been able to shift fully yet because according to the pack doctor, my body was not strong enough for a full shift.
