In Another Life

"In another life, promise you will find me".

That was what I heard before opening my eyes wide. I've been having that dream since I was very little, it doesn't really faze me anymore.

I checked the clock and realized it was already very late.

"Shoot, I'm late".

I said as I rushed to the bathroom and soon after, I quickly found something simple to wear.

My name is Sa-ra, Li Sa-ra and I work in the prestigious Royal Haven Hotel except that my position is not prestigious at all.

I finished college three years ago but since I have no experience and my college is not a well-known one, I was never given the position I hoped for. Instead, I work as a cleaner.

I live with my father as my mother ran away from home when I was still very little. My father works at a construction site but he has been getting weak recently so I try my best to work harder so I can get more money to take care of the both of us.

"Goodness, what am I going to do about this girl"?

Mrs Tin said as she kept checking the door to see if Li Sa-ra had arrived.

Today, the hotel would be going through a thorough inspection and any worker who is seen as not worthy will be disposed of.

"The inspector will be here any moment from now. Li Sa-ra... where are you"?

Mrs Tin was so worried. She has always liked Li Sa-ra ever since she joined the hotel one year ago.

Li Sa-ra was not like the other girls, she did her job well and was never rude.

Though she often complained about how she wanted something better, and she often made jokes about owning her own company someday, she never did that in a crude way.

The door finally opened and when Mrs Tin checked to see if it was Li Sa-ra, she saw the inspector instead.

She gasped as she knew Li Sa-ra was doomed. The inspector began checking on everyone, as he called names and went through their past reports.

Mrs Tin was still feeling bad when she heard someone tap her from behind. She turned gently to see who it was, and her eyes opened wide.

"Li Sa-ra"?

She said and her worries quickly subsided.

"Li Sa-ra!"

The inspector called in a loud voice.

"Yes!!"

I replied, standing up immediately. He looked at me for a while and said nothing. I was very nervous as I did not know if I was approved or not. They would give the result by the end of the day and it was always very scary.

The inspector soon left and we were given our first duty for the day.

Mrs Tin was asked to go to the laundry room while I was asked to go clean the VVIP's room.

I rushed towards Mrs Tin before she left.

"Mrs. Tin".

I called in a respectful voice.

"You brat".

She said as she raised her hand, acting like she was about to hit me. I smiled as I knew she'd never hit me.

"Why were you so late"?

She asked but I simply smiled and said.

"I slept and forgot".

She shook her head as she sighed.

"This child".

Mrs Tin was a very sweet woman. She was like a mother to me, she has always been nice to me right from the moment I got into this hotel.

"Hurry now, you have to make sure the VIP's room is spotless".

I closed my eyes and shook my head.

"Mnn, mnn. Mrs. Tin? It is not VIP, it is VVIP".

"Why you".

She said and we both smiled.

"Hurry".

I then left and went to the room or should I say suit. It was so big and beautiful, it even had a pool in it.

"What is this? He must be extremely rich to stay in a room like this".

I then paused and thought about something for a while.

"That's not right, I shouldn't be calling this place a room, it's a suit, suit".

I began my job, the room was bigger than my father's house. It looked so luxurious I could not help but explore. The bathroom, the room, there was even a closet.

"Awesome, these rich people definitely live in a totally different world from people like me".

I said. I was already done with cleaning and the place looked spotless. I was proud of myself, not that the room was really dirty before but a little different could be pretty obvious sometimes.

I dusted the room, changed the bedspread, washed the bathroom and toilet, cleaned all the furniture, and opened the window for air. I didn't do much, but it was worth it.

I placed my hand on my waist and with my eyes closed, I inhaled the air and exhaled happily.

"Perfect, now I just have to disappear before the VIP comes".

I said gathering my tools, I was about to leave when I heard the door click. My eyes opened wide and I instinctively hid.

I already knew the consequence of a customer coming to meet a cleaner in the room. I would not just lose my job, most of the customers are total psychopaths and this person is a VVIP. The richer the customer, the more crazy they get.

Some of them can ask you to do unexplainable things and promise not to get you fired but in the end, they always fire them.

Some of them can hit the staff just because they saw you still cleaning in the room.

"I'm doomed, I can't let this person see me. I don't even know if I passed the inspection or not".

I said as I snuck into the closet. I heard voices.

"They are two"?

I tried to hear it even better and my eyes opened wide I felt I would faint.

"A man and... a woman".

I staggered a little as I knew this was probably the worst case ever.

A man and woman had come to enjoy themselves and here I was, in their closet.

I was still praying and contemplating when suddenly... the door opened.
