Chapter 1 Chapter 1 Prolouge: Dope Boy Ambitions

"Honey look." A lady grabbed her husband's hand and pulled him over to a baby in one of the cribs. "I want him. He's so adorable." The lady said pointing to a little boy that slept in the crib as a smile spread over her face showing her white teeth. I rolled my eyes. Today was one of the worst days for me. Adoption Day

I closed my eyes and said a little prayer to god hoping that I get adopted today. "You can stop praying, nobody wants a teenager." My twin sister Zopia said sitting next to me eating a fun sized butter finger. "They only want the babies." She added taking a bite.

I sighed knowing she was right. People come in on adoption day and go straight to the new born babies that had been here only for a week or maybe even a day. But me on the other hand have been in this orphanage for 16 years. "You want a bite?" Zopia asked me holding the butter finger up to my mouth. "No." I said drly and pulled my knees into my chest. "Suit ya' self." Zopia said zipping up her jacket. "I'm heading down the street." She said leaving out the orphanage.

We were identical twins, but she was so much different from me. She liked to sneak out of the orphanage at night and hang with the dirty boys that drooled over her body just for sex. She also liked to get into fights with the other kids in the orphanage. I wasn't with that shit. I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around and saw Nina. She was a 4 year old here that seemed to cling to me, almost like a little sister I never had.

"Hey Nina." I smiled. She wrapped her arms around my neck tightly. "I got adopted Sophia! I got adopted!" She said screaming into my ear. I did a small smile and hugged her back. "That's wonderful." We pulled away from the hug. "I'm going to miss you." Nina said. "Imma' miss you too lil' bit." "Nina! Come on sweetie!" Her new parents said to her. "Bye Mo." she called me by my Kevinname.

"Bye. Be good at your new home." I watched as she skipped away with her new parents and got into the car. I sighed as the car passed with Nina in the backseat smiling.

The sun began to set as the time got closer to 5pm. Which means adoption day was over.

"Sophia! Where is your sister?" Ms. Freeman asked. She was the owner of this orphanage and she watched over us. "You looking for her? Go find her yourself." I said walking into my assigned room.

I got in my bottom bunk. The top bunk was for Zopia.

Niecy was already in here reading a magazine. She was a cool chick if you ask me. She got put in here last year due to both of her parents dying in a tragic car accident. She's currently 17.

"Where yo' sis?" She asked flipping through the magazine.

"Where you think?" I asked her putting my thick hair into a big bun. Niecy laughed. "She's with those boys down the street." "Should have known." She said. "Alright girls. Enough chatter. Lights out." Ms. Freeman said.

Niecy sighed and so did I. I reached over and turned my lamp out. "Night." Niecy said.

"Good night." I said and closed my eyes. *

The sound of footsteps entered the room. My vision became clear once I opened my eyes and saw my sister standing there.

"Zopia?" I said turning my lamp on. The redness in her eyes told me that she was high and the smell of liquor on her tongue said she had been drinkng. The hickey's on her neck were a dark color of red meaning they were new. I shook my head stepping out of the bed. I helped her get into her top bunk. "Sophia?" She said.

"What?" I asked putting her cover on top of her.

"I love you." She said putting her hand on my forehead. I pushed her hand off. "I love you too." I was just about to go back down into my bed until she stopped me. "Promise me if you get adopted before me you will find me in the future." "Zopia go to sleep." "Promise me Mo." I sighed. "I promise." *

"Come on childeren. 7 am. Time to wake up." Ms. Freeman said waking all of us up by flipping on the lights. I groaned and woke up. "I have some news to tell you all." She said and clapped her hands. I rolled my eyes. Who the hell gets this happy in the morning time?

"Adoption day will be every day this week!" She said cheerfully. We all looked at each other confused because adoption day is every Sunday not everyday.

"So all of you get up, head to the bathroom, brush your teeth, and get ready." She walked out of our room. "I don't even know why. We're not gonna' get adopted." Zopia said fully waking up.

"True dat'." Niecy said brushing her silky black hair down. It flowed all the way down to her butt. She had that good hair considering her being half Hispanic and black. "Yall never know. We might get lucky today."I said trying to be positive.

"You know we ain't Sophia. We been here for 16 years." Zopia said.

I rolled my eyes. It was true. We've been here every since our mother gave birth to us. The only reason we were never adopted was because we were twins and some people don't want to deal with twins, they also didn't want to separate us.

I often wondered who my mother and father were since I've never met them. I also wondered why they gave me and Zopia away at birth.

I threw a plain white t-shirt over my head and slipped my butt into some skinny jeans. I took my hair out of the bun and combed out the little curls that had formed. I took a brush and brushed it neatly into a ponytail. Zopia came out of the bathroom in a totally different outfit than me. "Yo? What are you wearing?" I asked because on adoption day we always wear the same outfit so people will know we're twins. "Clothes duh." She said leaving her hair down. "But-" I got cut off by Ms. Freemen. "Come on girls people are arriving." She rushed us out of the room and into the living room.

Niecy, Zopia, and I sat on the brown couch that was in the center of the living room. We watched as couples came in. If they didn't go over to the newborns they sure as hell went over to the toddlers.

Hours and hours passed and still, we haven't been adopted.

"Be right back. I gotta' pee." Niecy said heading to the restroom. I nodded and played with my hair. Zopia sighed then stood up from the couch. "I'm outta' here." She said.

"Where are you going?" I asked already knowing the answer. "Down the street. Be back lata' sista'." She said and slipped out the front door of the orphanage.

I put my hands over my eyes frustrated. All of a sudden I felt someone attack me from behind. "Mo! I GOT ADOPTED!" Niecy yelled. "No way!" I yelled.

"Yesssss way!" Niecy screamed jumping up and down. "Those our my new parents." She pointed to a white couple talking to Ms. Freemen. My mouth dropped shocked that they wanted a 17 year old. "Well congrats girl." I stood up and gave her a hug. "You and your sister will get adopted one day. Don't lose hope." "I hope so." I said sighing. I watched as Niecy packed her stuff. She walked outside and put her bag in the backseat of a Bently. The car told me that her new parents had money. "Bye Mo." Niecy said and pulled me into a hug. "Don't be fighting with your sister." I laughed and hugged her back. "I won't." She looked at me one last time before getting into the car. They drove off.

Now Zopia and I were the only teenagers here. *

The floor made a creaking sound indicating someone had walked into the room. I slowly opened my eyes to see who it was. I saw Zopia standing there with a black eye and a bloody nose. The blooding was dripping into her mouth that's how bad it was. I threw my covers off of me and stepped out of the bunk bed. I pulled Zopia into the bathroom. She sat down on the toilet. I grabbed a roll of toilet paper and tried to wipe up the blood.

"How the hell did this happen?" I asked mad that somebody beat up my sister. "LJ." She said crying a little bit. LJ was her "boyfriend." "Him and his boys jumped me on my way here." "WHY?" I yelled running cold water over her swollen eye.

"I got caught messing with another dude, and LJ didn't like that." I sighed and rolled my eyes. "You need to stop hanging around the wrong people Yo. Being a little hoe isn't cute. It's ridiculous and sad." "You can't tell me how to control my life!" I grabbed her face. "You need to listen to me-" She pushed my hands away. "Leave me alone Mo." Zopia walked back into the room and climbed into the top bunk. I'm only looking out for her.

"Girls wake up!" Ms. Freemen said. I sighed and rubbed my eyes not wanting to wake up this early. Zopia got up and went straight into the bathroom hiding her face so Ms. Freemen wouldn't see her bruises.

"Y'all two get ready." Ms. Freemen walked out of the room. I walked to the bathroom and saw Zopia putting on a white sweater with black jeans. She slipped on some old, raggedy boots and put her hair in a pony tail. She threw on her jacket and zipped it up, putting her hood on in the process. "I'll be back." I stopped her on her way out the door. "I hope your not going back over to LJ's." "No Mo. I'm not." I knew her ass was lying. Zopia

As I was leaving out of the orphanage I saw a couple of cars start to arrive. I rolled my eyes and started walking down the street. It was filled with hobo's and prostitutes looking for a quick fuck for a quick buck. It had thugs on every corner selling drugs to the feening crack heads that craved marijuana or any other substance. That's how it is here in Chicago. "Zopia come here." One of the thugs called me as I walked pass him and his crew. His name was "Boom" and I occasionally bought his products every now and then. "Wassup Boom." I said dapping him up. "You trying to buy something today?"

"Uhhh.." I said looking around. "Come on Yo. I'll take 10 dollars off because your my favorite customer." "Fine." I said pulling out a twenty dollar bill that I had stole from Ms. Freemen's purse. He handed me a small bag which was filled with a power substance. Cocaine I'm guessing. "See you around." Boom said. I placed the bag into my back pocket and walked away. I walked one more block down until I finally made it to my boyfriends house. Well sort of my boyfriend. It's complicated between me and him. As I got closer to his house I saw him on the porch with some of his boys. They were smoking and drinking beers. I stuck my hands in my pocket.

"Hey." I said walking up to him. "Sup Yo-Yo. What you doing back around here? I thought we got rid' of yo' ass last night." "I wanted to come see you." I smiled shyly. "How much money you want?" He asked. "LJ no. I'm not here for any money." "Then what the fuck you here for!" He spat making me jump a little.

I played with my fingers while looking at him. I bent over a little and whispered in his ear. "I want you." I said with a smirk. He smirked also and blew some smoke through his nostrils.

"Go in the house lil mama."

I bit the bottom of my lip getting ready to walk inside until I heard my sister's voice. "Aye Zopia!" Sophia yelled. "Look who is it, the baby twin." LJ said standing up. His friends laughed. "Yea it's me. I don't appreciate you putting yo' hands on my fucking sister either!" Mo yelled. LJ stood to his feet and got in Mo's face. "You think you big and bad huh?"

"I don't think. I know." Sophia said boldly. I sighed getting ready I stop whatever was about to happen.

"Sophia let's go." I grabbed her hand. "Nah. He think it's okay to give you a black eye and a busted nose-" "Mo seriously let's go." "Yea Mo listen to your sister and take your ass back to that orphanage. Because I don't want your ass around here. Just like your parents didn't want you either." When LJ said that Sophia instantly started attacking his ass. She threw a punch to his face and started slapping and kicking him with everything she had in her. I know what y'all are thinking. Why are you just standing there? Help your sister Zopia. But I couldn't. I just couldn't jump in it. Finally LJ pushed her into a tree that was in the yard. Mo hit her head hella' hard. "Now I'm not gone' tell yo' ass again. Get the fuck out my yard. BOTH OF YOU!" LJ yelled at us. I helped Sophia up. We both started heading back to the orphanage.

Sophia

"Mo-" "No! Leave me the hell alone Zopia. I went over there to stand up for you. But you couldn't even do the same for me? You saw me getting my ass kicked and you didn't even try to help!" "Sophia it's not like that-" "That's exactly what it's like!" I yelled and rolled my eyes. I do so much for her ass and she doesn't appreciate it. Sometimes I feel like I'm the big sister and she's the baby. Because that's what she acts like. As we walked back inside the orphanage it was filled with adults holding newborns and playing with toddlers.

"There you two are!" Ms. Freemen said. "Ooo. Sophia are you alright sweetie?" She asked.

"Yes ma'am. Can I skip adoption day today? I feel a little under the weather." My head was pounding and my body ached from all the punches I received from LJ. "Yes. Go back to bed dear." I nodded and walked into the bedroom. Zopia started to follow me.

"Mo. I'm so sorry." I rolled my eyes and got under my cover. "I love you." Zopia said again trying to butter me up to get me to stop being mad at her. "Doesn't seem like it." I said.

I heard her sigh then leave out of the room, closing the door behind her. I laid there for a little bit then soon went into a deep sleep. *

The horrible dream I was having caused me to wake up. I looked around and noticed the sun was starting to go down outside. I smelled soup cooking meaning dinner was ready. I got out of the bed and walked into the big kitchen. "Are you feeling better?" Ms. Freemen asked and handed me a bowl full of vegetable soup.

"Yea." I looked around and noticed Zopia wasn't sitting at any of the tables. "Ms. Freemen have you seen my sister?" "She got adopted 3 hours ago." The bowl full of hot soup slipped from my hands and fell onto the floor spilling everywhere. "SHE WHAT?" "Got adopted. I'm sorry sweetie, your time will come." The words she was saying weren't making any sense.

My twin sister really got Adopted.
