[Tales from Vermont]
"Is his majesty aware of my arrival governess ", for the umpteenth time I asked about the King's whereabouts.
The old lady who sat next to me avoided all my questions, she had only blinked occasionally and scoffed at me before looking out through the window.
It was obvious that she had been given orders to avoid speaking with me. The red panda tatto on her neck showed she wasn't just a governess they had introduced her to be. I wasn't the kind to exchange pleasantries or hold a conversation but it was quite late and the king hadn't even sent signs that he wouldn't be present.
Five days travelling from varmaog blindfolded to the great capital ALDREDEN, the capital of the eastern empire. Cramped in the comfort of a carriage my entire body ached all over.
What I need now is rest,
The room was hued in different shades of red, and the light had been dimed giving the room the sense of a slaughter room. The furniture was expensive from mere looks, the curtains were rare western materials, said to be of the highest bidding. Even with all this good interior I still felt stiff to breathe, not when today was my wedding night to the unknown Lord of this keeping.
Lord Elroyan, the youngest Lord of the eastern empire, was a mysterious and reserved man. His identity was unknown, no one knew him or guessed what he would look like, it was like speaking of a man who had no shadow. A man who the sun knew not his existence, he was only famous with rumours, only the rumours had been the only thing you could detail him from.
My father, phnord Adams, was the chief of our village varmaog. It was a simple life living through in the little village that was encircled with raw graen, a rare mineral and a local coal mine.
Varmog wasn't rich like other neighbouring towns and villages, but their little resources saved it from poverty.
I looked up as the governess stepped out of the room, before shutting the door she smirked and said.
"My lady, I advice you drink the whole cup of the tea I brought. It will ease the pain and prepare you physically for the later activity ", She was saying those good words but under it you could feel the opposite of what they meant.
'What later activity...oh' I muttered to myself when it hit me what she meant by later activity.
It was happening so fast, must it be tonight, the tea might prepare me physically but not mentally. I squeezed at the end of my dress.
"And don't try to fall asleep before his majesty makes it to this room, take the powder in the wrap if you won't guarantee keeping your eyes open till then " she said them bowed before closing the door quietly.
'Shoot', I cursed under my breath panicking to get the hairpin I had carefully taken time to turn it to a weapon. The dragon shaped hairpin had a sharp end I had improvised as my dagger, tonight might be his majesty's last one.
Would I let a man I have no knowledge about have his way with me under this boundage called marriage????, I would have, but checking my pride intact am sure I can't stoop to that .
I walked up to the door and leaned with my left ear resting on to listen, faint footsteps passed by,
👥️️ Did you see the poor bride
👥️️ she won't last a month, and pretty at that. Poor thing
👥️️ will....
Some maids I guess gossiped as they walked away, the crunching of their heels were audible as they moved away.
I waited a bit,but this time silence swept the hallway.
Laying on the queen sized bed I hid the hairpin under the pillow.
The words the maids said played in my head, ' she wouldn't last a month ' .
I was brought here all blind folded and now this, this is not what I planned for my. I tucked my self to bed covering up with the clean duvet, it smelled like it came out from the press room, highly hygienic, i quickly smacked my head.
'Admiring the so called sheets...bigger problems are coming when he decides toget under the same sheet with you under huhh'
Tilting my head to the right the tea the governess left displayed, I bit my lower lip and reminded myself to not sleep but close my heavy eyes.

A cold brush across my face woke me up, the windows were still open allowing the light from the moonlight wash the room, it was a new view as the heavenly light to give the red room a nice touch.
I sat up and almost screamed,
A tall dark figure sat not next to the right side .
Lord Elroyan..my inner mind screamed, he sat in the darkness. Watching this I noticed the inhuman way his golden pupils shined even in darkness, his gaze travelling over me, and the lights were all out leaving the moon to give us light.
Panicking I slipped my hands under the pillow, the spot where I laid the hairpin was empty.
"It's a pretty hairpin.."
His voice came out in rich manliness, also scared when l found my supposed weapon in his right hand, as he toyed with it. How did he.....
Clearing my throat I faked a smile
"My mother's...".I trailed
"Hmmm"he nods and touched the tip so sharp.
"Your mother must really value this ",
We were already having a conversation and.....
"Can I keep it ??"
"My lord its the only thing I have left of hers . Am sorry but I ,it's a part of me "
He moved closer to stand in front of me , mentally I sinked deeper into the bed.
"The last woman who tried to kill me also had a hairpin this sharp."
He cutted into his palm blood oozed out , without hesitation he wiped his bloody hands revealing his palm all healed up.
He healed so quickly, he can't be human, even then healthiest man alive can't recover this quick.
"Mi....Lord....forgive me if my action says otherwise but I don't harbour that in mind ", my heart crazily beating against my chest, the aura emitting from him was cold and dark.
Am I gonna die, the slaughtering wouldn't be stressful since he could dispose of me and no one in this place would say a word about it.
"Breath claire..I have no intention to use this on you, like you said you harbour no intention to use your mother's pin on me...am I right ??"
"Ye...yes..my lord", I tried to remain calm, if my heart keep racing this loud he might hear it.
"It's our wedding night Clara", was he implying that we should sleep together, he was too fast. Not seeing his face in dark I couldn't tell the expression on his face, what would be his reaction if I say I wasn't ready.
Bitting my lip I swallowed down nothing,
"I'm not ready my lord.."
"Not ready.. for what??"
I pinched my arm to suppress my nervousness, " no..not..ready for the wedding consummation. I need time "
He sighed and returned to his previous seat.
"How long.."
"Milord.??... "
"I said how long till you are ready to grace my bed".
For unknown reasons I was blushing red hot to his question, but what surprised me was the fact that he quickly settled on waiting.
I couldn't give an exact timing so I kept silent.
"I will wait and when I feel like it you'll have to give yourself to me. Sleep well wife."
With that he left the room, I let our a loud sigh and pulled the duvet over my face, then I pulled it down, he knows my name.
He also called me Wife.....
