His life has been set already, and he has returned to the city to find his mother's murderers after years of being away from his messed-up family. What will happen when he meets the mate he had a one-night stand with six months ago upon his return and has been trying to stop thinking about her ever since? She was not only in his family house but was also an ordinary maid.
Camilla's POV:
I clenched my fists as I watched Lily all over Dandy, my ex-boyfriend, whom she had stolen from me after framing me up. Anytime I remember the incident, I get angry all over again. Lily has been my friend since childhood, and she was someone I trusted and could vouch for. I thought she loved me all these years too, until my family's business crashed six months ago. My father was involved in a scandal that included murder, drug use, and human trafficking. This incident affected my family's multi-million dollar business, which went bankrupt in a matter of a few hours after losing investors and clients. Escaping from the cops, my dad got involved in a fatal car crash and died. My mom, who couldn't bear the pain of losing her husband, went into a coma.
Lily's family were our family's friends. Our parents have known each other for years, so Lily's family would be my guardians if my parents weren't around. I had to move in to live with them after I lost my parents. Although I didn't say much, deep within me, I was slowly losing it because my brain was taking too long to process everything that happened.
It was the time I needed a friend to talk to. A friend that would sit beside me and tell me that everything would be alright. A friend that would tell me not to worry. It was the time I needed Lily the most, but to my utmost surprise, her behavior towards me changed. Not only hers, but the behavior of her family towards me changed. I was reduced to the status of a lowly maid. I was treated like a stranger, and sometimes I wondered if they were the same family friend I knew since I was a little girl.
"I summoned you all here to inform you that Alpha Enzo is returning today," Patricia, Lily's mother, announced.
"I want you all to make sure the house is very clean and in order before he comes back. The ones in charge of food should prepare lots of dishes because the family will be having a reunion when he comes back. He also doesn't like people touching his things or going near his properties, so nobody should piss him off. Am I understood?"
"Yes, ma'am," I and the other maids chorused.
"You all should get back to work," she said, and everyone departed.
"Camilla," I heard Patricia calling me as I was about to leave.
"Yes, Aunt Patricia."
"I mean, madam," I corrected myself immediately when I saw the stern look on her face. She had told me to call her madam instead.
"This should be the last time you make the mistake of calling me aunt. I'm not your aunt and will never be. I'm not an aunt to the daughter of a murderer. You should know better," she said to me.
"Okay, madam," I responded.
"Lily and Dandy, please excuse us," she said aloud.
"Okay, mom," Lily replied, getting up with Dandy, who was holding her waist and kissing her neck. She gave me the middle finger before going upstairs with Dandy amidst laughter. What hurt me the most was the fact that Dandy ignored me totally.
"You would be Alpha Enzo's personal maid from today onwards," Patricia said to me, and I frowned. Why the heck did she assign me this role? From the rumors I have heard, Alpha Enzo was not someone to be messed with. I have had enough troubles in my life already, and involving myself with a man like Alpha Enzo was not part of the plan. This family wanted my life. It has been obvious for the past six months, but where would I go if I thought of leaving?
"Well, I will admit that I want you to suffer, but I also have my reasons for assigning you as a maid to Alpha Enzo. I want you to be my ears and eyes. You must tell me about everything going on in his life," She said to me, and I realized what she was doing. She wanted me to spy on him. I would surely die if Alpha Enzo discovered me.
"What if I don't want to do it?" I questioned her, and she let out a laugh. "Haven't you realized that you don't have a single choice here?"
"You're no longer the little princess-heiress-to a multimillion-dollar company you were back then. You're nothing but a lowly omega maid right now who survives by feeding off me and my family," she added.
I could feel tears clouding my eyes. If anyone told me that Aunt Patricia would treat me like this one day, I wouldn't believe it. What happened to all the happy moments our families had? What happened to the summer vacation we all had? What happened?
"If you don't do what I tell you, we will stop paying your mother's hospital bills, and you know what that means," she said, walking around me.
"She would die like your father," she whispered in my ear, and the tears I was holding escaped my eyes, rolling down my cheeks.
"I would do it," I said, immediately clenching my fists as tears flowed out of my eyes. I didn't want to lose my mother, either. She was the only family I had right now. If spying on Alpha Enzo was what it takes to keep my mother alive, then I would do it well.
"You can get back to work," she said to me, and I left immediately, not wanting to spend any more time with her. She was a very bad woman. I can't believe she used my mother to threaten me- my mother who was her best friend. The ways of people are really unpredictable.
I couldn't help but wonder how my parents and I didn't see this side of them all these years. The way they suddenly changed makes me think that they have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time.
