Chapter 1 Marriage agreement

The tilting of the cloth left and right forced Evelyn to cluck and move closer to the wearer. She lowered her head, slowly correcting the position until the cloth looked neater again. Isabel, the owner, as well as the person wearing the cloth, chuckled with laughter. I didn't expect Evelyn, who usually never cared, to now step in to fix the dress she was wearing.

Evelyn stood, patting her palms to get rid of the dust that might have stuck there. Her eyes cynically faced her best friend and half-sister, who was still chuckling indifferently. She thought this was funny.

"What time is the reception?" Evelyn asked quietly. Isabel squared her shoulders. Her head turned back. The look in her eyes told Evelyn to ask the man standing at the back, near the entrance. The man stood tall, wearing a black tuxedo and a hairdo shaped to reveal his white forehead. A man who just stood without any expression on his face.

Evelyn did not continue her curiosity. She would rather ask the organizer than have to ask the man. Evelyn turned around and swiftly cleaned up the makeup tools she had been using. Isabel walked slowly toward Evelyn. She hugged her best friend from behind and whispered softly in her ear. "Thank you, Evelyn. Thank you for everything."

Isabel released the hug and walked out of the room, leaving the man who had been staring blankly at the corner of the room and turning to Evelyn's figure.

The man let out a long sigh, hoping Evelyn would hear him and then ask him. Apparently, no. The woman seemed to be busy opening her cellphone and replying to a chat that seemed to have been neglected since a few hours ago.

"I hope we will be like before again," said the man, breaking the silence. Evelyn turned her head, ignoring the cell phone that lit up her notification. Her eyes moved in all directions to make sure he didn't go any further. She really wanted to look unconcerned. Not caring about what the tall man in front of her said.

"I still expect you, Evelyn," the man said again. Without waiting for Evelyn's response, the figure left the woman, who worked as a makeup artist. Her hands trembled, looking down slowly. One or two drops of tears fell down her cheeks. Her eyeballs turned red, and soon her nose began to get tight. The tears that fell began to make her face turn sad little by little.

She thought that by letting the man be with her best friend, her life would be happy. But it wasn't. She did the wrong thing. Her life was messed up, and her life changed. Since two years ago, she has let go of her ex-boyfriend for the sake of her best friend, who was left by her boyfriend.

The moans and tears that came every night could not shake her desire to let go of her former lover. The tightness was always present every time he looked at her sad face. The sad face that has always accompanied her day for the past five years.

Evelyn blinked away her tears and then reapplied a light powder on her beautiful face. Today was Isabel's special day, and she didn't want to show that sad face. A smile spread across Evelyn's thin lips. A smile full of enthusiasm would change all her thoughts from this very second.

"I'll get over it."

Evelyn walked into the large room where the special event was taking place. The room was filled with beautiful, colorful decorations with rose flowers arranged neatly on the right and left of the room. As far as the eye could see, Evelyn was mesmerized and amazed by what she saw at the moment. Isabel was a perfectionist who prepared everything carefully.

Evelyn still remembered that when she and Isabel were teenagers, Isabel once said that she wanted her wedding to be celebrated in a big way. A royal princess-style party with lots of flower decorations and fancy accessories. According to her, a wedding party should be celebrated only once in a lifetime, and it should be festive so that it can be remembered. Evelyn smiled sadly if she remembered Isabel's words at that time.

Five steps closer to the aisle, Evelyn stopped her steps. Her chest tightened again, seeing the bride and groom standing in front of her, exchanging intimate glances and sweet smiles as several people greeted her. Not only that, the groom was also seen several times holding Isabel's hand tightly as if he didn't want to let go.

Evelyn took a deep breath and then exhaled slowly. She tried to get rid of all her memories and feelings for her former lover, and she continued her steps, accompanied by a sweet smile that she spread in all directions.

"Congratulations on your new life. I'm happy for you," Evelyn said flatly. Isabel hugged Evelyn and patted her back gently while rubbing it. Evelyn could hear Isabel sobbing behind the tight embrace. "Don't cry; it will wear off." Evelyn joked.

Both of them chuckled. Isabel lightly punched Evelyn's arm, making the girl laugh out loud. The two of them threw smiles at each other and then said goodbye. Evelyn didn't say much to her former lover, who had been silently watching her and Isabel's behavior.

"I can't be sure. But I'll try to come," Evelyn promised. Isabel squealed with delight. She hugged Evelyn back and said the same words in her ear: 'Thank you'.

Evelyn did not want to linger in the aisle. It felt too claustrophobic if she still stayed there. She quickly descended the aisle stairs and continued her steps towards the dining area. The girl seemed to be sorting out what she wanted to eat. Her hand went along the tray containing the food she liked. Her face lit up as her eyes met the neatly arranged rows of dim sum. "Wow, dimsum," she murmured softly.

Her tiny hand clasped one dimsum, but suddenly someone pushed her gently to the side while grabbing the clamp in Evelyn's hand roughly. Not accepting that the clamp was taken by force, Evelyn glared, snatched back the clamp, and pushed the person. She also stomped on his foot until the person groaned in pain. Not feeling guilty, Evelyn casually put three pieces of dim sum along with the sauce onto the plate she was carrying.

"Hey, take responsibility!!!" she shouted, referring to the person Evelyn had stepped on her foot earlier. As it turned out, he was a tall man with a pretty handsome face. The man, who looked like a playboy, was looking for prey.

Because she felt called, Evelyn turned her head. "You called me?" asked Evelyn. One finger pointed at her chest, pointing at herself.

The man who had called out suddenly felt frozen in place. He was stunned to see Evelyn's beautiful face, which seemed to force him to continue looking at her. The man's hand stretched out to invite Evelyn to get acquainted. The face, which was originally stiff and rough, turned warm and soft. "Meet me; my name is Kevin. May I know your name?"

"What for?" asked Evelyn curtly.

"Who knows, we can get closer after today," Kevin replied confidently. Evelyn also returned Kevin's hand, which invited him to get acquainted.

"My name is Evelyn. Nice to meet you."

Evelyn left without saying another word. Meanwhile, Kevin was still frozen in place, not realizing that the woman he was introduced to had disappeared from his presence. A smile lay neatly on his lips, which continued to mutter quietly, mentioning Evelyn's name.

"She's beautiful."
