Chapter 1 Married off to a Lycan

Zora's point of view

"Surely you're not telling me to get married, are you? Mum, listen to your son." I walked into the house with my brother trailing me behind as we were locked up in a heated argument. "Can you both be peaceful for once? Also, Zora; keep your tone down when you talk to your brother. He's an elder and like your father." I rolled my eyes while taking a seat. I've heard that particular phrase more times than necessary and it was now like an unholy rhyme that I was supposed to memorize. "He's the one talking about me getting married. Such things shouldn't be joked about." My face was scrunched up as I threw him a glare. "And who said that I'm joking about you getting married? Look around you, all other young omegas are getting married off as the time for the festival is almost near. Would you rather be picked as a sacrifice?" And that was another point I had to consider but no matter what he said, I wasn't ready to get married. At least, not now. I just turned 19 and I had such high hopes that perhaps my fate would be slightly different from other werewolf Omega girls that either got sold or killed, I was really hoping to find my mate before any of those options would be considered but it seemed like the moon goddess had other plans. "Zora, I just brought up the issue of marriage because you'd be travelling to your husband's pack by next week." My brother finally said walking into his room and I chuckled not until I caught the sullen look on my mom's face. It seemed like she knew I had noticed as she tried to act cheerful as always. "Your brother and his jokes." She began walking to the kitchen but with her reaction, I'm feeling skeptical that it was actually just a joke. "Mum." I went after her as she shut the kitchen door after her and I had to pause so it doesn't hit me directly in the face before I go in. "Would you really let brother sell me off to some unknown person?" She put down the basket of herbs that she was holding and then stared at me for a few minutes before swallowing. "You know it very well that such matters aren't for women to decide on the pack, in this your brother has the final say." I rubbed my forehead in frustration as I suddenly began to feel like my life force was been cut off. Suddenly the kitchen was becoming too stuffy for me and I had to throw open the windows in haste. "Are you alright?" My mum placed her hands on my shoulders softly as I coughed dryly. "I don't know. It's just suddenly too hard for me to breathe." I tried explaining as I kept coughing while tears streamed out of my eyes. "Your asthma." My mum finally commented and rushed to the living room and returned almost immediately with an inhaler. One...two...three...I inhaled and finally took a deep breath of relief down. "It's back? I thought the healer said I'm free from it." I sat on the kitchen counter while my mum returned to mixing herbs. "Well, now we know that the healer was lying." "Everything about the Green Oak Pack is just all lies and fake. Even their Alpha is rumoured to be crazy and a chronic killer." I sighed throwing my head to the side but before I did that, I noticed a sad look in my mum's eyes. "Mum, your countenance seems a bit off today. Is everything okay?" I asked staring keenly at her and she sighed dropping the basket of herbs that she was mixing together. "I can't even lie to you when you're staring at me with those cute little eyes but I don't think we should take what your brother said lastly too lightly." I squinted my eyes trying to take my mind back to what my brother had said as confusion filled my head. "What? That I should consider getting married?" My mum shook her head in negativity. "No, that you might have already been sold and would be required to move to your husband by next week." I chuckled while she kept a serious expression. "Are you serious, mum? We both know he was joking." "But what if he wasn't?" There was urgency and fear in her voice that made me begin to go tense. It couldn't be right. My brother won't sell me out without telling me or would he? There was a little rustling outside and almost immediately before I and mum could go to confirm, my brother Azreal walked in immediately. "I know this is a little urgent but I need you to listen to me very carefully, Zora." He held my shoulder staring deeply into my eyes and the way he stared at me sent sharp chills down my spines. "What are you talking about?" I smiled maniacally with doubt and questionable looks. "Your husband is here." I tilted my head to a corner and he nodded again which made me run out of the kitchen and peek at the living room. I walked back and slapped my brother hardly on the face. "Tell me you didn't. Infact, tell me you married me off to someone else that isn't him." I gestured towards the living room as tears began to flow out of my eyes freely. "I had no choice, he reached out afterwords seeing you the other day at the packs festival." I gave my brother another slap unable to restrain myself as my mum tried to calm me down. "It's okay, my baby girl. Everything is going to be fine, sacrifices are to be made." I peeled away from her, everything about this family irritating the hell out of me. "It's not okay mum, I'm about to get married out to the Alpha King of Green Oak Pack, you've heard the rumours mother. What if he plans to use me for one of his numerous sacrifices?" I bit my tongue to stop myself from talking, turning to look at my brother who had his gaze down like he regretted his actions.
