Chapter 1 THE MOON'S TWISTED GIFT

AVA'S POV

"For a queen you are, you're getting a bit too comfortable with these humans," Rowan whispered, his breath tickling my skin and his voice husky and laced with a hint of warning.

My gaze narrowed, eyes flashing red with a hint of danger as I took in his words. "And what makes you think so, my love?" I purred, my voice dripping with sweetness as my fingers trailed his bare chest down below to his hard member.

Of course we were lying naked in all our glory, skin flawless yet had a pale color to it, and this was absolutely normal being vampires.

Rowan's smile was synonymous to a crack of lightning on a stormy night - sudden and electrifying. "Because I know you, Queen Ava. I know what your weaknesses, your desires... and your secrets are."

Now what was he on about? I thought to myself.

My thoughts were however concealed with a forced laughter, it was a low, throaty sound, because beneath it, a thread of confusion and fury hummed. "And what secrets would those be, Rowan?" I asked, my voice dripping with ice.

Well, that was how far my patience could go and well my cover up with it.

Rowan's eyes glinted with a sinister light and he chuckled. "Let's just say... I know what you're capable of, my lovely queen. And I won't hesitate to use it against you if necessary."

Under the flickering candlelight, we just laid there staring at each other. The room was engulfed with the heavy scent of blood mixed with the scent of rose, a grand four-poster bed only befitting for a queen, dominated the space.

Suddenly Rowan broke into a laugh as he bent his head to capture my lips again, "Why don't we do this again?" He asked, his head already kissing a trail that lady straight to my hole.

"Don't you ever get tired?" I said, gently pushing him off or at least trying to push him off.

"Oh c'mon, Queen Ava, I know your secrets, I know you are thirsty for more of this..." His words trailed off, as he began lapping on my juices, taking me on the trip to euphoria.

Euphoria came in the form of huge spasms rushing through me; I gripped the red blood duvet tight to steady myself.

"That was great, Rowan," I purred, my smile brightening up my face as I turned to him. His hands encircled my waist, our naked bodies entwined, my breasts pressed against his sides.

Rowan was drawing lines on my smooth back, his hands lowering until he finally cupped my butt, squeezing it harshly, eliciting a sharp draw of breath from me, this made me rub myself against him.

"You're insatiable, just like me. I knew you'd want more." Rowan said, his voice slurry as if drunk, his finger tracing gentle patterns on my chest. "Now so do I. I also want more too," he said with a glint in his bioeyes, his hands releasing me as he climbed over me, kneeling on the bed with his legs on either side. He leaned over me, his eyes sparkling with excitement and something sinister, his finger still drawing gentle lines on my skin.

"I want blood," Rowan said, and suddenly his fingers pierced deep into my chest.

The feeling of pain was almost non-existent but I could feel life slipping away from me. Blood gurgled in my mouth and it flowed from the corner of my mouth.

"Why Rowan?" I asked, but the answer to the question became even more obvious to me. My face was poise, graceful even at the face of death.

"Why did you do this? Why did you betray me?" I asked him, my hands reaching up to cup his face and he leaned into my hand, snuggling his face. Then affectionately, like he hadn't just betrayed me, he leaned down to kiss my lips.

"I love you, my queen, but I'm tired of your benevolent rule, tired of drinking that disgusting artificial blood. I want a killing spree, I want suck my fangs into human's warm blood vessels! Slave them!" Rowan said, his face suddenly tainted with anger, one that also left as quickly as it came.

"I'm surprised you think you would succeed," I said, trying to laugh but it only made the blood flow faster. I was getting drained of blood really quickly. "You won't succeed," I said, laughing disdainfully, "I will take revenge on you, tear you to pieces!"

Rowan grinned, saying mockingly, "I look forward to your return, your majesty!"

As soon as his words fell off his mouth, his arm swiftly and accurately pierced my chest, precisely digging out my heart. Blooms of blood appeared on the bed sheet, like some kind of cruel artwork.

"Moon Goddess, please give me a chance to be reborn!" I silently pleaded, just before my heart was harvested.

At this moment, the dazzling full moon suddenly emitted a blinding white light.

***************************************************************

When I woke up, I felt someone pressing my body, and some kind of tickling feeling on my neck. As soon as my eyes adjusted to the sight, the face of an ugly old man was magnified in my view.

On instinct, I pushed him off me but he fell to the ground. At that time, I didn't take note of how difficult his weight on my hands felt as I pushed him off. Neither did I take note of how warm his body was when I pushed him off, but I took note of the fact that his head didn't splatter on impact when he hit the ground.

"He must be really strong then," I thought to myself.

I quickly picked myself off the bed where I laid previously, and my eyes quickly surveyed the room but I didn't have time to think about how different the room looked compared to what I was used to.

"How dare you push me away, you puny dirty blood slave?" The man raged, shouting as he tried to steady himself.

'He must have a bad leg,' I noticed, seeing him trying to stand erect.

"You must have some guts to even come close to me, and your balls must be even bigger if you tried to drink my blood," I snapped back, annoyed at how much disrespect I was receiving from this frail man.

A crown I hadn't noticed previously, sat on the bedside table, attracting attention.

'Who was this man? He must be a king. Where am I? What really had changed? How long was I dead for?' Questions swamped in my head as I tried to make sense of everything. While at it, I was oblivious to whatever the old man was ranting about, but suddenly the old man came at me, instincts kicked I'm again.

I reacted with a palm strike first of all, pushing him back and away from my space and before he had time to react, I trudged forward, side stepped him, now appearing at him back.

My move was a bit slow and sluggish I noted, but it didn't stop me from what I was unto. I covered his mouth and with my other hand, twisted his neck, giving him a clean death.

Asshole!

I marched into the bathroom, tore off the device attached to my neck. As soon as I did, I felt the sting from where I had detached the device from and then blood began spluttering from that same place.

"What the fuck is going on?" I screamed, pressing my palm against my neck to cause friction and also stop the blood.

Then remembering something, I poured a bit of my saliva on my finger and rubbed it against where the blood was pouring from. The bleeding gradually reduced.

"Now that's one thing that has worked a bit right, not as fast as I remember, but it's definitely something," I spoke aloud to myself, feeling extremely content.

"Wait a sec!" I exclaimed, my mind racing as I remembered something.

My blood was way too warm to belong to that of a vampire. I stared at the blood on my hand for a while. Something seemed wrong, a lot of things had seemed wrong since I woke up, and it wasn't just the blood. It seemed like it wasn't about how wrong everything seemed, it was more like how much everything changed.

I ran to the mirror in the bathroom, my heart pounding furiously as I looked carefully at myself. Strangely, the face that stared back at me wasn't one I was very familiar with.

The one in the mirror was fat, no, chubby. She had full, beautiful cheeks. There was even some color on her skin, some rosy pink color. She looked more alive than I had looked in all my grandeur as the Vampire Queen.

"What The Fuck Is Going On Here?" I whispered slowly, highlighting every word as I backed away from the mirror.

Then it all made sense to me...

The moon goddess indeed answered my prayer, gave me another shot at life, but definitely not the easiest chance to fulfill my aim of killing Rowan.

Staring at my own reflection in the mirror, I swept my hair aside to see that the wound wasn't totally healed, it was healing too slowly.

I asked, referring to my own reflection, "Just what kind of creature are you?"
