I've had a crush on my male idol for five years, but I've never had the courage to confess my feelings. Now, he has become a vegetative state, and finally, I can do whatever I want with him!
I was browsing a local job app when I stumbled upon a job posting from a young lady, "Due to the fact that the person for the arranged marriage within the family has become comatose and I have no intention of getting married to him, a young lady aged 24 to 26 is currently sought to substitute for me in the marriage. Divorce is impermissible after marriage." The fiancé is handsome and wealthy, and although he's in a coma, there's a high chance he'll regain consciousness. Plus, there's an additional reward of 300, 000 dollars for completing the task.
Being a substitute bride is definitely a profitable deal!"
What the heck?
Substitute bride?
I had read about such scenarios in novels, but I never thought they existed in real life.
The world was indeed full of surprises, enough to leave me speechless.
There were quite a number of onlookers for this recruitment, but no one was willing to undertake it.
After all, who would be willing to ruin their entire lifetime for merely 300, 000 dollars?
I was unable to refrain from continuing to read on.
But when I saw the attached photo, I was stunned.
I was truly captivated by this matter.
The person to be married was Jeffry Cooper!
The man I had secretly admired for five years!
In the photo, Jeffry was sitting at a desk in a formal suit, his brow slightly furrowed, looking serious. The sunlight streaming through the window highlighted his hair, giving him an aura of mysterious masculinity.
Jeffry was my fellow student at the university, though we were not in the same class.
The first time I saw him was during a swimming class. At first glance, I was smitten by his looks and charm!
Jeffry had a perfect physique, with abs of steel and prominent collarbones, standing at six feet three inches with long legs, a prominent and curvaceous butt, a sexy waist, and a captivating countenance.
I had been secretly crushing on Jeffry for five years, but never had the guts to confess.
My ideal man was wealthy, good-looking and had an excellent figure, being the perfect prince in my heart.
I never expected him to get into an accident and become a sleeping prince.
Worried about him, I quickly messaged the young lady, "Such a handsome guy got into an accident. Is he disfigured? Does he have any scars? And, um, is everything still functioning properly?"
She replied shortly, "No disfigurement, no scars."
Then, after a long pause, she added, "His functions haven't been tested, but everything is still there. However... he's in a coma, so maybe let him be."
I was capable of sensing the awkwardness of the young lady opposite at this moment.
But who cared, I loved him anyway.
When I saw that the young lady said there were no other issues with his health, I felt relieved and responded to her, "Miss, since I am willing to marry in your stead, naturally I will not let him off the hook, okay?" And I sent my resume along with the message.
After a while, the young lady replied, "You seem to meet the requirements. Are you really willing?"
Another message followed, "A coma affects the brain, not the body. If you really want to... you might have to put in some effort."
I quickly typed back, "No problem, I have good physical strength. Regarding the good looks and figure like his, a little effort is worth it."
She responded swiftly, "You're quite straightforward!"
We then arranged a time and place to meet.
I couldn't focus on job hunting anymore, and I just kept staring at Jeffrey's photos and daydreaming about him.
When I met the young lady as planned, after some introductions and small talk, I learned that her name was Louise Ford. She had studied abroad since childhood and was in an arranged marriage with Jeffry from the Cooper Family.
Jeffry's father was seriously ill and desired to witness Jeffry's wedding before he passed away. This time, Louise returned for the purpose of getting married. However, she received the news that Jeffry had been in a car accident and fell into a coma right after she got off the plane.
Due to family obligations, the marriage had to proceed, so Louise found me.
Thinking about Jeffry's body, I was overjoyed and eagerly asked, "When can I see him in person?"
She laughed, "Why are you in such a hurry? There's pre-wedding preparation first."
It was only then that I realized that after all, I was a substitute bride and could not marry Jeffry openly with my own identity.
Fortunately, Louise had been abroad for years. The Cooper Family saw her when she was a child but hadn't seen her much in recent years. Hence, it was not arduous to pose as her.
With Louise's help, I crammed on social etiquette and learned about both the Ford and Cooper families.
Finally, under her arrangement, I was able to visit Jeffry's home, of course, as Louise Ford.
I was thrilled to finally meet the man I had dreamed about day and night.
With excitement, I rang the doorbell at his house.
The servant opened the door, smiling benignantly, "You must be Miss Ford. Please come in."
As she led me to the living room, she continued cheerfully, "You can just call me Stephani. Mrs. Cooper is still changing clothes, so please wait a moment."
Looking at the sumptuous decoration, I couldn't refrain from sighing inwardly, "Surely, Jeffry's family is indeed wealthy."
But outwardly, I maintained a composed demeanor. "May I ask where Jeffry is?"
Stephani smiled and pointed to a room at the far east end of the second floor. "He's right there. Would you like to see Mr. Cooper first?"
"Yes, I'll go see him first." I replied, smiling as I stood up and headed upstairs.
"Then I shall go and inform Mrs. Cooper," Stephani said before leaving.
I no longer needed to restrain myself and trotted all the way to the door of Jeffry's room, opening the door nervously.
The first thing that hit me was the fresh, woody scent unique to him. I took a few deep breaths, feeling utterly refreshed, and couldn't help but close my eyes to savor it.
Until I exhaled contentedly, slowly opened my eyes, looked behind me, and saw that there was no one there, I slipped into Jeffry's room and carefully closed the door.
For some reason, I felt a surge of nervousness, pressing my hand against my restless heart as I tiptoed to his side. He lay peacefully on the bed, looking as if he were asleep.
He was still as handsome as ever!
My hands trembled uncontrollably as I touched his cheek.
He seemed a bit thinner than before.
Then, I leaned in and whispered into his ear, "Hello, Jeffry. We meet again."
Seeing that he didn't respond, I continued, "Let me tell you a secret. I'm standing in for Louise to marry you. My name is Hallie Lambert, and I've had a crush on you for five years. Now, I'm your fiancée."
Just as I was caught up in my excitement, the door suddenly swung open, accompanied by a gentle voice, "Louise, I'm so sorry for keeping you waiting while I was changing clothes."
At that moment, I was sitting on Jeffry's bed, leaning close to his ear, speaking to him. They arrived so suddenly that I didn't have time to stand up.
In this posture, it seemed that no one would believe me if I said I didn't sneak a kiss on Jeffry.
The whole world seemed to fall silent.
A beautifully dressed lady and Stephani stood at the door, both wide-eyed with surprise.
I felt so embarrassed at the time that I really wished I could just find a hole to crawl into.
It was me who reacted first, quickly getting up and looking away to avoid eye contact with them. I stammered and found an excuse, "Um, I, I want to talk to him to see if he can regain consciousness."
The lady gestured for Stephani to leave, then entered the room, closed the door, and took my hand, guiding me back to sit on the bed. "You must be Louise. I'm Jeffry's mother. You can call me Mrs. Cooper."
I had not yet recovered from the awkwardness just now and could only nod, remaining speechless.
Mrs. Cooper gently patted my hand. "I thought you might call off the engagement because of Jeffry's accident, but you're a good child who keeps her promises."
However, I was an impostor. I shook my head guiltily and said, "We, the Ford Family, value its commitments the most. Since there is an engagement, it is of course necessary to honor it. Moreover, Jeffry is so handsome that I am not at a loss either."
Mrs. Cooper chuckled softly. "Louise, you must be aware of Jeffry's condition. The doctors say there's only a one in ten thousand chance he'll regain consciousness. I hope you can spend more time with him, talk to him often." After saying that, her countenance dimmed somewhat.
One in ten thousand... Though slim, it was not hopeless.
"Mrs. Cooper, let a kiss from his true love wake him up," I offered in comfort.
"Like you just did?" Mrs. Cooper's face twitched as if stifling a laugh.
"I, I wasn't, I was just..." I tried to explain.
"Alright, I won't interrupt your time with the prince," she said, standing up and pressing my shoulder to indicate I could stay. She walked to the door, winked at me before closing it, "Carry on, and come down for dinner later."
Louise, I was sorry. I thought I had just ruined your image.
Once the door closed, I breathed a sigh of relief. Now, no one would disturb me.
Rubbing my hands together, I looked at Jeffry, excitedly telling him, "Jeffry, do you know how much I've longed for you?"
I glanced at the blanket covering him, swallowing hard. "You agree too, right?"
After a few seconds, Jeffry remained silent.
Looking at his peaceful sleeping face, I said, "I'll take your silence as a yes."
With trembling hands, I nervously lifted the blanket.
Five years of longing, finally about to be fulfilled today!
