"Miss Warlock, I would like to offer you a marriage of convenience. I am sure you already know the benefits of getting married to me." Ryan muttered with a cocky tone. Sylvia rolled her eyes, "Mr. Gold, is this the proposal you spoke of?" She asked, surprised. She was not ready to get married anymore after her divorce. A smirk appeared on Ryan's lips, "Of course not. But we can't be business partner's if you do not accept my proposal."
Chapter 1
SPLASH!
The audience gasped in surprise, watching the scene unfold. Who didn't know about the two ladies of New York City? The starlights of every show, one was pitiful and the other was a conniving bitch! Emily Downstone and Sylvia Warlock.
Sylvia gasped in shock from the wine splashed on her clothes, she was wearing a white dress and the red wine left a huge stain on her clothes. She was a mix of emotions, confused as she dusted off her clothes with frustration in her eyes.
"What did you just do? Are you insane? How dare you?" Sylvia questioned looking up at Emily. The woman walked up to her and threw wine at her without any valid reason or even an explanation.
Emily chuckled mocking, "How dare you ask me if I am insane? A cheap woman like you who uses her body to trap a man and make him marry you, you are worse than a whore!" Emily yelled.
The socialites were not surprised by this, they have heard this line continuously for the past five years, it was the same every single time.
James Autumn, Sylvia's husband was supposed to get married to Emily's cousin five years ago but then he got married to Sylvia instead which made Emily aggrieved. Infact, Sylvia was not responsible for this but Emily refused to believe her words calling her a betrayer.
"If you have a problem with me, why don't we settle it like adults do? Why do you keep acting like a child?" Sylvia asked, pained by the numerous insults and hates. She could hear the whispers of the socialites around her.
So since then, Emily looked for every situation to humiliate and make mockery of Sylvia. It was also not news that, although James was married, he went around with different women, had so many girlfriend's amongst the socialites which was a bigger slap in the face to Sylvia but she remained the cool wife that did not care.
"Adults? Are you an adult? You are just a whore! A cheap one at that !" Emily said with thick hatred in her tone.
Sylvia ignored her and gestured to a waitress who brought a clean towel. She thanked the waitress and used the towel to wipe her face clean, also drying off her dress. Emily snickered in mockery, she did not care that Sylvia wiped her face, she would pour a new wine on her again.
Emily gestured to the waitress carrying drinks and then she picked up a glass once again, she raised the glass ready to pour it on Sylvia but this time around Sylvia had enough of her already. Sylvia held her hand and exerted force trying to take the glass away from Emily but instead the drink poured on Emily.
SPLASH!
GASP!
"What just happened? She poured the drink on her. Oh my God!" A young lady said and it threw everybody into a murmuring mess.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to splash your dress. You refused to let go of the glass." Sylvia tried to explain, panic evident in her tone.
Emily's mouth was wide open, she could not believe her eyes, she got splashed with a drink. Immediately tears formed in her eyes, her eyes turned pitiful and sad as she looked aggrieved.
"Why did you do this to me? I only tried to talk to you, why did you have to stain my dress in this manner?" Emily cried.
No one needed the stars to tell them what was about to happen, the sudden switch in character, the tears, they already knew what was about to happen. Sylvia felt a chill crawl up her spine, that familiar feeling.
"What is going on here?" The deep baritone voice echoed calmly but it was enough to send everyone into a frenzy.
Sylvia swallowed hesitantly, that was James, her husband. He was here, he mentioned that he would not be coming to the party, so why was he here? Why?
Emily continued bawling her eyes out pitifully, she wrapped her hands around herself in a more pitiful stance giving off that she was just bullied. Sylvia knew not explaining would get her in trouble, so she turned.
She was met with his cold eyes, those eyes that never warmed up even after so many years. They still looked at her coldly and in a condescending manner. "James, it's just a little misunderstanding." She tried to explain but his eyes told her otherwise.
One of Emily's minions found it as the perfect time to interrupt, "Mr. Autumn, your wife here splashed a glass of wine on Miss Emily for no reason at all. She bullied our poor Emily to tears."
"No, no, no. That's not what happened, she's lying. You can ask everyone here." Sylvia gestured to the others but they all moved back pretending as if they had no idea of what was going on.
Sylvia shook her, trying to tell James it was a lie and not the truth but the look in his eyes told her he did not trust her ile always. "Believe me James, I didn't do it. She started it, and she poured the wine on me first. Look at my dress, I did not..."
"Keep quiet!" James rudely remarked glaringly at Sylvia, he looked at Emily behind her and snickered in mockery.
"Feeling so insecure that you bully others now? If you feel so insecure then stay in the Villa, you do not need to go out."
"James, do not say that to her. Sylvia is right, it was just a little misunderstanding. She did not do it on purpose, she would never do it on purpose." Emily said with a low and aggrieved tone yet she tried to portray herself as the bigger person.
"Why are you so nice Emily? You always try to cover for others whenever they wrong you, stop it already." Her little minion said, holding onto her in a sad manner.
"Take her back home and make sure she does not come out of her room till I say so." James said to his guards loud enough for everyone to hear.
Sylvia moved back shaking her head in fear and embarrassment, tears ran down her cheeks but it did not matter to James. The guards came forward, trying to hold her but she bent sideways and ran out with tears falling on her cheeks.

Murmurs filled the hall, although everyone knew how heartless and cold James was, they did not expect that he would be the same to his wife as well.
"Did he just chase her out?"
"He asked the guards to lock her up, that's disheartening."
"Why would a husband do this to their wife? Why?"
"She must be suffering in pain, we should have spoken up for her."
Some socialites whispered amongst themselves feeling pity on Sylvia for how she was treated by James. But they knew it was a bad thing to support anyone that Emily had painted as her enemy in public, especially since she was from the five families.
Emily giggled silently in her heart, this was exactly what she wanted.
"Mr. James, you should not have done that, people will speak bad of you."
Emily said, being a white lotus that she was.
