Chapter 1 My Mate

Dahlia's POV

Today's my eighteenth birthday and I still haven't shifted to my wolf, Dahlia thought to herself

'But you have one right?' Nyx, Dahlia's wolf said interrupting her thoughts

'Get dressed and go dazzle them', she added

'Dazzle?' Dahlia's thoughts swirled in a maddening circle, refusing to settle

'Yes, dazzle', Nyx said with a firm resolve

She was actually aware of where Dahlia was headed

'I can't dazzle anyone with this frail looking body of mine covered in bruises, besides, I don't own any attractive clothing'

Nyx's voice was a gentle breeze on a summer's day, soothing and persuasive. "You may be right, but look at the bright side," she coaxed, her words dripping with honey. "You're pretty, very pretty." Her gaze locked onto hers, warm and convincing, as if the mere act of speaking the words could make them true.

And believe me, she wasn't wrong

Dahlia possesses long, wavy brown hair that falls past her shoulders, deep dark blue eyes like the ocean at night, small and delicate nose with a slight upturn, slender and lithe, and frail body with graceful movements and just a bit shorter than average.

'You're not wrong you know' Dahlia said with a smirk on her face

'Hey witch, would you hurry up' Katherine, the Luna's daughter yelled at her

Dahlia and Nyx spoke in unison, their voices a chorus of exasperation: "Oh boy." Dahlia's eyes rolled heavenward, as if seeking divine intervention from the impending chaos.

Katherine's anger was palpable as she strode into the room, her eyes flashing with irritation yet the spark that ignited this inferno remained unknown

'Didn't you hear me, hurry up', Katherine snapped irritably

Finally, I was dressed

Dahlia was dressed in a simple deep red linen gown with cherry accents. It wasn't long nor was it short; it fell just to the floor. The classic neckline framed her face perfectly, and the modest sleeves ended at her wrist. As she stood there, staring into the mirror, she felt a new sense of confidence and strength that she had never felt before. It was as if she was finally able to see herself clearly for the first time, free of the judgement and expectations of others. She felt beautiful, inside and out even though the dress wasn't something a celebrity would wear

"Seriously, how many times do you need to check your reflection?" Katherine spat, her words dripping with malice. "You're not going to magically transform into a supermodel. Newsflash: you're ugly, and that's not going to change." Her eyes flashed with contempt.

Dahlia's wolf growled in anger, it was as if Nyx was going to break out of Dahlia

"Chill, I've tamed the beast. Nyx might've put up a fight, but I've got this."

It was finally time for me to enter into the hall

I took a deep breath, ready to enter the hall, make up free, thanks to Katherine's tantrum earlier. I rolled my eyes recalling how she wouldn't let me wear make up

As Dahlia entered the big hall, she noticed the way the sunlight danced across the polished floor, creating small rainbows in the corners of the room. The scent of the fresh flowers filled her nose, and she felt a sense of calm and serenity wash over her. The high ceilings made the room feel even larger, and she felt like she was floating in

The big hall was a spacious and elegant room, with high ceilings and large windows that let in plenty of natural light. The walls were painted a soft cream color, and the floor was covered in a plush, dark red carpet. The room was decorated with vases of fresh flowers, and a large table was set up in the center of the room, covered with a white tablecloth and laden with food and drinks. Everything in the room seemed to sparkle and glisten, as if it had been polished to

As Dahlia's eyes adjusted to the light, she noticed a sea of familiar faces gathered in the big hall. There was the Luna, looking regal and imposing, and the Alpha, with his strong and confident presence. Her packmates were there too, looking happy and excited.

She saw her packmates chatting and laughing with each other. The Luna and Alpha were watching over the crowd, their faces stern and serious. Dahlia felt a sense of unease, as if she was an outsider in her own pack. No one seemed to notice her, or even care that she was there. She felt invisible, like a ghost.

'Hey, relax', it was Nyx talking

'It's your big day!" Nyx said, trying to lift my spirits.

"Don't let anyone stress you out."

I smiled wryly. "Easy for you to say. You're not the only fragile-looking person here."

Nyx raised an eyebrow.

"Fragile? You're not fragile – you're just... delicate."

I laughed. "Delicate? That's just a nice way of saying I'm breakable."

Nyx smiled. "Well, just remember, you're beautiful, no matter what."

'Alright mom', I added playfully

Honestly, I am really thankful to have Nyx, she's my only companion

'I don't know what I would have done without you', I said to Nyx

'Obviously, nothing,' she said, smirk still intact

Nyx's arrogant tone was comical, and we both ended up in hysterics. As we laughed, my worries disappeared.

Nyx's expression turned sincere, and she said, "I love you, girl. You're my rock."

I smiled, feeling a deep sense of calm. "I love you too, Nyx."

Nyx and I are one, well that's obvious because she's like my conscience, I get to communicate with her and she gets to do same with me

Don't mind me, Nyx is my wolf even though I haven't transformed yet, she has the ability to communicate and share her thoughts with me

Honestly, I feel really glad to have Nyx with me, my life's been a living hell, it's not like it still isn't though but at least I have someone I can communicate with, I'm more than happy with that. Nyx is family to me

Asher's POV

'Yo bro, chill', I said to my wolf, Kai

Kai's eyes shone with excitement.

'I wish I could, bro, but I just met my mate.'

I followed his gaze to a maiden with long, wavy brown hair, dressed in a simple yet elegant deep red linen gown.

'You mean that thing?'

I asked, raising an eyebrow.

Kai nodded enthusiastically.

'Yes, that girl'

I couldn't help but express my doubts.

'And she's not a thing, she's our mate,' Kai added sounding all serious

'No way, bro. That can't be your mate.'

Kai's face fell, but he asked, 'Why not?'

'She's way too frail and UGLY'!!!!!!

She's not your mate."

I said bluntly, not sugarcoating a word I said

Kai's frustration grew, but I could sense the sincerity in his voice.

'Who cares about that?' he asked, his voice filled with conviction.

I shrugged. 'I do.'

The conversation continued, with Kai refusing to back down. 'Dude, chill,' I said, trying to calm him down. But Kai was resolute.

'No, not when you won't let me meet my mate.'

I realized I needed to approach the situation differently.

'Kai, you can't just walk up to a lady and say "marry me, you're my mate." She'll think you're crazy.'

Kai's expression softened, and he nodded. 'You're right. I guess I got a bit carried away.'

I stood at my mother’s open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest’s voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone—he brought Charla with him. He claimed she’d had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.

I had been a wife for exactly six hours when I woke up to the sound of my husband’s heavy breathing. In the dim moonlight of our bridal suite, I watched Hardin, the man I had adored for years, intertwined with my sister Carissa on the chaise lounge. The betrayal didn't come with an apology. Hardin stood up, unashamed, and sneered at me. "You're awake? Get out, you frumpy mute." Carissa huddled under a throw, her fake tears already welling up as she played the victim. They didn't just want me gone; they wanted me erased to protect their reputations. When I refused to move, my world collapsed. My father didn't offer a shoulder to cry on; he threatened to have me committed to a mental asylum to save his business merger. "You're a disgrace," he bellowed, while the guards stood ready to drag me away. They had spent my life treating me like a stuttering, submissive pawn, and now they were done with me. I felt a blinding pain in my skull, a fracture that should have broken me. But instead of tears, something dormant and lethal flickered to life. The terrified girl who walked down the aisle earlier that day simply ceased to exist. In her place, a clinical system—the Valkyrie Protocol—booted up. My racing heart plummeted to a steady sixty beats per minute. I didn't scream. I stood up, my spine straightening for the first time in twenty years, and looked at Hardin with the detachment of a surgeon looking at a tumor. "Correction," I said, my voice stripped of its stutter. "You're in my light." By dawn, I had drained my father's accounts, vanished into a storm, and found a bleeding Crown Prince in a hidden safehouse. They thought they had broken a mute girl. They didn't realize they had just activated their own destruction.

I sat in the gray, airless room of the New York State Department of Corrections, my knuckles white as the Warden delivered the news. "Parole denied." My father, Howard Sterling, had forged new evidence of financial crimes to keep me behind bars. He walked into the room, smelling of expensive cologne, and tossed a black folder onto the steel table. It was a marriage contract for Lucas Kensington, a billionaire currently lying in a vegetative state in the ICU. "Sign it. You walk out today." I laughed at the idea of being sold to a "corpse" until Howard slid a grainy photo toward me. It showed a toddler with a crescent-moon birthmark—the son Howard told me had died in an incubator five years ago. He smiled and told me the boy's safety depended entirely on my cooperation. I was thrust into the Kensington estate, where the family treated me like a "drowned rat." They dressed me in mothball-scented rags and mocked my status, unaware that I was monitoring their every move. I watched the cousin, Julian, openly waiting for Lucas to die to inherit the empire, while the doctors prepared to sign the death certificate. I didn't understand why my father would lie about my son’s death for years, or what kind of monsters would use a child as a bargaining chip. The injustice of it burned in my chest as I realized I was just a pawn in a game of old money and blood. As the monitors began to flatline and the family started to celebrate their inheritance, I locked the door and reached into the hem of my dress. I pulled out the sharpened silver wires I’d fashioned in the prison workshop. They thought they bought a submissive convict, but they actually invited "The Saint"—the world’s most dangerous underground surgeon—into their home. "Wake up, Lucas. You owe me a life." I wasn't there to be a bride; I was there to wake the dead and burn their empire to the ground.
