Xander Sinclair, the rebellious heir to the Crescent Moon Pack, has spent his life resisting the weight of his birthright. But his formidable grandmother, Luna Susanne, has other plans. She issues an ultimatum-choose a mate within six months or be stripped of his claim to the pack. Determined to defy her, Derek makes the most scandalous choice possible: Amara Donald, a rogue werewolf his estranged stepbrother, Xander cast aside years ago. It is the perfect act of rebellion-binding himself to a woman hated by the very pack that seeks to control him. But Amara has her own reasons for accepting. Once the heir to a powerful bloodline, her family was destroyed by the Sinclairs. Now, she has a chance to reclaim what was stolen from her. What begins as a battle of dominance soon turns into something far more dangerous-an uncontrollable bond, ancient rivalries reigniting, and a force threatening to tear the Crescent Moon Pack apart. As the full moon rises and dark truths come to light, Xander and Amara must decide-are they destined for love, or will their union bring war?

MATED TO THE ALPHA HEIR Chapter 1 BETRAYAL UNDER THE BLOOD MOON

Chapter 001: Betrayal Under the Blood Moon

AMARA

The rhythmic beeping of the machines did little to dull the searing pain in my chest. Every muscle ached, my body bruised and broken, but none of it compared to the humiliation clawing at my soul. It was everywhere-etched in my memory, whispered through the hospital halls, and burned into the pitying gazes of the healers who refused to meet my eyes.

I wasn't just broken.

I was ruined, lost.

My mother sat beside me, her scent thick with worry. I could feel her unspoken questions pressing down on me, but I had no answers. How could I possibly explain what had just happened?

I shut my eyes, hoping to escape, but the memories came rushing back, sharp as a wolf's fangs.

My mating ceremony-the night I had dreamed of for years-had turned into my worst nightmare.

The evening had started perfectly, like something out of an ancient werewolf legend.

The mating ceremony was the holiest ritual in our pack, a night when the goddess herself was said to bless fated mates. Beneath the glow of the Blood Moon, bonds would be sealed, power exchanged, and destinies entwined.

"You can look now," Jade, my closest friend and the pack's healer, murmured with a soft smile as she stepped aside.

I turned to the mirror and gasped. The reflection staring back at me was mesmerizing. My silver hair, a mark of my bloodline, cascaded in perfect waves. My ceremonial gown, woven with moonlight silk, clung to my body like a second skin. The delicate rune markings along my arms pulsed faintly, reacting to my heightened emotions. They were ancient symbols of unity, and tonight, they would solidify my bond with Derek.

"It's perfect," I whispered, swallowing back the emotion swelling in my throat.

Jade smiled, her amber eyes glinting. "You are perfect. This is your fate."

It sure felt like it.

The sacred clearing was glowing under the full moon, its silvery light reflecting off the ceremonial stones arranged in a perfect circle. The entire pack had gathered, their murmurs hushed in reverence. High Priestess Miren stood in the center, her midnight robes billowing as she raised a goblet filled with the sacred elixir-a blend of wolfsbane and crushed moonflower, meant to heighten the bond between mates.

A deep drumbeat echoed through the forest, signaling the start of the ritual. My heart pounded as I stepped forward, my bare feet pressing against the cool earth. The mating ceremony was more than a declaration of love; it was an ancient rite, binding our souls, our wolves, and our futures.

Derekwas supposed to meet me in the center of the circle.

We would drink from the goblet together, allowing the magic to flow through us, strengthening our bond. Then, under the watchful eyes of the moon, we would mark each other-a bite to the neck, the final step in the sacred ritual.

But as the High Priestess lifted her hands, signaling for my mate to join me...

Derek didn't show up.

The first crack in my illusion came like a whisper of wind, chilling my skin.

"Where is he?" I asked, my voice trembling despite my best efforts to remain calm. My fingers twisted the fabric of my gown, dread curling deep inside me.

Jade's brows furrowed. "He's probably just handling last-minute preparations."

But as the minutes stretched into an agonizing eternity, a suffocating unease gripped my chest. The bond we shared should have led him to me. He should have felt my distress.

And yet, He was no where to be found and now the silence was deafening.

Murmurs rippled through the pack, confusion and concern lacing their voices. The High Priestess lowered her goblet, her piercing gaze scanning the crowd. A broken mating ceremony was unheard of. It was a dishonor not just to me but to the entire pack.

Needing air, I stepped away, telling Jade I needed a moment. As I moved toward the packhouse, I caught a scent-one that sent an icy chill down my spine.

Derek's scent.

But it was mixed with something else. Something wrong but even I wasn't sure what it was.

I followed the trail, my heartbeat hammering in my ears. The scent led me to the packhouse, to one of the private rooms. The door was slightly ajar, and from within, I heard it-low, guttural moans.

For a split second, I thought it was just a couple sneaking away from the ceremony. But as I pushed the door open, my world shattered.

Derek wasn't alone.

But he wasn't with a female, either.

In my entire life I haven't never seen anything like that.

I couldn't move. I couldn't breathe. My mate-the male who had sworn his love to me-was tangled in a passionate embrace with another wolf. A male.

The air was sucked from my lungs. My knees nearly gave out beneath me. This wasn't real. This wasn't happening.

Derek's head snapped up, his golden eyes widening in horror. His hand was still gripping the other male's waist, his lips parted in shock.

"Amara-" Xander stammered, scrambling away, but I didn't give him a chance to explain.

"Why?" My voice was barely a whisper, my wolf howling in agony inside me. "Why would you do this?"

Derek opened his mouth, but no words came out. Instead, his lover-a young warrior from our pack-stepped back, face red with shame. Xander scrambled to adjust his robes, panic flashing across his face.

Everything inside me cracked.

Tears welled in my eyes as I turned and ran. My ceremonial gown trailed behind me, but I didn't care. My chest felt like it was being ripped apart.

But the worst was yet to come.

I hadn't even made it out of the packhouse when my communicator buzzed. My stomach clenched as I saw the flood of messages. My hands shook as I opened one.

A video.

A cold dread settled over me. I clicked play, and the breath was ripped from my lungs.

It was me.

A recording-explicit, intimate, violating-of me. One I had never agreed to, one I had never known existed. My heart pounded as realization crashed over me. Someone had recorded me without my knowledge. And now, the entire pack had seen it.

A fresh notification popped up.

Derek: I reject you, Amara. After this humiliation, I can never accept you as my mate.

A sharp pain shot through my chest. My wolf whimpered, clawing at the walls of my mind. The rejection severed the bond between us, leaving behind a hollow, aching void.

But before I could even process my heartbreak, another message appeared.

A text.

A message.

I warned you, Amara. This is just the beginning. My breath hitched as I saw the message and a shiver ran down my spine.

This wasn't just about Derek's betrayal.

Someone had planned this. Someone who wanted to destroy me.

And whoever they were, they weren't finished yet.

This was just the beginning.

I had just survived a private jet crash, my body a map of violet bruises and my lungs still burning from the smoke. I woke up in a sterile hospital room, gasping for my husband's name, only to realize I was completely alone. While I was bleeding in a ditch, my husband, Adam, was on the news smiling at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. When I tracked him down at the hospital's VIP wing, I didn't find a grieving husband. I found him tenderly cradling his ex-girlfriend, Casie, in his arms, his face lit with a protective warmth he had never shown me as he carried her into the maternity ward. The betrayal went deeper than I could have imagined. Adam admitted the affair started on our third anniversary-the night he claimed he was stuck in London for a merger. Back at the manor, his mother had already filled our planned nursery with pink boutique bags for Casie's "little princess." When I demanded a divorce, Adam didn't flinch. He sneered that I was "gutter trash" from a foster home and that I'd be begging on the streets within a week. To trap me, he froze my bank accounts, cancelled my flight, and even called the police to report me for "theft" of company property. I realized then that I wasn't his partner; I was a charity case he had plucked from obscurity to manage his life. To the Hortons, I was just a servant who happened to sleep in the master bedroom, a "resilient" woman meant to endure his abuse in silence while the whole world laughed at the joke that was my marriage. Adam thought stripping me of his money would make me crawl back to him. He was wrong. I walked into his executive suite during his biggest deal of the year and poured a mug of sludge over his original ten-million-dollar contracts. Then, right in front of his board and his mistress, I stripped off every designer thread he had ever paid for until I was standing in nothing but my own silk camisole. "You can keep the clothes, Adam. They're as hollow as you are." I grabbed my passport, turned my back on his billions, and walked out of that glass tower barefoot, bleeding, and finally free.

I was once the princess of the Upper East Side, but now I’m just "debt wrapped in pretty skin." To keep my father alive in a federal penitentiary, I signed a contract I didn't fully understand. I thought it was about restoring my family's name, but producer Barnett Orr treated it like a bill of sale for my soul. Inside his limousine, the air smelled like gasoline and fear. Barnett didn't want a star; he wanted a victim. He bruised my jaw and ripped my vintage silk gown to shreds, laughing because he knew I couldn't fight back without signing my father's death warrant. "Don't forget who owns you, Felicity," he whispered. When he dragged me into Dewitt Knight’s penthouse party, I was a walking disaster. I huddled in Barnett’s oversized jacket, my lip bleeding and my spirit shattered. The elite crowd didn't see a victim; they saw a fallen girl selling herself for a role. A former rival poured red wine over me, and the room erupted in cruel laughter while Barnett told everyone he was just "testing my commitment." I looked up at the balcony, locking eyes with Dewitt Knight. He was a god in a bespoke suit, looking down at me with cold, lethal disgust. He didn't see the bruises or the desperation. He only saw a transaction he found beneath him. "So the rumors are true," he said, his voice cutting through the music. "The Aguilars really will do anything for money now. Even this." I was trapped between a monster who wanted to break me and a man who thought I was trash. No one cared that my father's life depended on my silence. When Barnett cornered me in a guest room later that night, his belt jingling like a death knell, I realized no one was coming to save a girl like me. I fought back with a crystal vase, shattering it against his shoulder, but I was drowning in my own terror. Just as Barnett lunged for my throat, the door was kicked off its hinges. Dewitt stood there, finally seeing the blood on the carpet and the map of purple bruises on my bare back. He chased the monster away, but I didn't feel safe. I locked the guest room door, wedged a chair under the handle, and slept with a silver letter opener pressed against my skin. When I crept into the kitchen at midnight and found him waiting in the shadows, I aimed the blade at his heart. "In this house, no one hurts you," he promised, his voice a low velvet rumble. But in a world where I had already been sold once, I knew that even protection came with a price I couldn't afford to pay.
