Chapter 1

In the third year of their marriage, Lachlan Begum became infatuated with his new secretary, Cassie Quinn.

She was open and bold. Her personal motto was "Fortune favors the bold."

In bed, she knew countless different positions, and outside of it, she accompanied Lachlan in various thrilling activities.

While he went out with Cassie, he maintained the facade of a devoted husband by fabricating where he had been to Nicola Hayes.

"I'm not coming home tonight. I was drunk, so I'm sleeping at the office."

Cassie chuckled beside him. She said with a hint of teasing provocation, "When are you going to divorce that boring old woman?"

The call ended abruptly.

Unbeknownst to them, Nicola was sitting in the Obstetrics and Gynecology department and staring at the pregnancy report at her fingertips. She had been pregnant for six weeks.

After she left the hospital, she called her brother, Jerold Hayes, who was a lawyer. "Jerold, I need you to make a divorce agreement for me."

Jerold paused briefly and then asked, "Are you sure about this?"

Nicola replied calmly, "Yes. I'm pregnant. I plan to keep the baby myself."

After the call, Jerold quickly sent her a divorce agreement. "Have him sign it. Within a week, I'll help you become single again."

Back home, Nicola printed out the agreement and signed her name carefully.

She stared at the divorce agreement and was absent-minded.

She and Lachlan had attended the junior high school.

At thirteen, she was bullied by her classmates and locked in the girls' restroom.

Lachlan went to the classroom late from basketball practice and heard her cries. So he helped her out.

He stood up to the girls who had bullied her and even declared that she was under his protection and warned others not to bully her again.

From then on, she had a deep connection to Lachlan and became his possession.

His kindness ignited her first crush.

He was her first love and her shining beacon. She longed for him day and night.

Three years ago, the Begum family faced a crisis, with a strained financial situation.

The Begum family turned to the Hayes family for help. So Nicola brought a substantial fortune and married Lachlan. She indeed saved the Begum family.

After they got married, she and Lachlan had a happy time.

He would present everything to her if she had looked at it twice. When she fell ill, he took care of her all night. He would even act childishly just to spend more time with her.

But somewhere along the line, everything changed.

In the beginning, when Nicola noticed him getting close to other women, he would explain guiltily. "Nicola, I only love you. I swear there's nothing between her and me."

Later, Nicola caught him kissing another woman at a social event. He said drunkenly, "It's just socializing. Everyone does it. It's nothing serious."

A month ago, Nicola witnessed him in the country villa pressing Cassie against the glass window. They were making out passionately. He impatiently showed her true colors. "Nicola, I do love you, but I can't be with just you for the rest of my life. Don't worry. I just had a fling with another woman. You are still my wife."

He played the role of a husband who loved Nicola excessively, while she tried to play a wife who was stupid and blind.

Nicola had thought that life was long and that Lachlan would come back to her after he hung out with other women for a while.

But she no longer loved him now because he was unworthy. She didn't want her child to always wait for him, who never came home.

The phone rang and interrupted her thoughts.

"I'm at the presidential suite at Lakeview Hotel. Come over," Lachlan said, hung up the phone before she could say anything.

Nicola paused for a moment and put the divorce agreement into her purse. Then she drove to the hotel.

"Let's get married," Mia declares, her voice trembling despite her defiant gaze into Stefan's guarded brown eyes. She needs this, even if he seems untouchable. Stefan raises a skeptical brow. "And why would I do that?" His voice was low, like a warning, and it made her shiver even though she tried not to show it. "We both have one thing in common," Mia continues, her gaze unwavering. "Shitty fathers. They want to take what's ours and give it to who they think deserves it." A pointed pause hangs in the air. "The only difference between us is that you're an illegitimate child, and I'm not." Stefan studies her, the heiress in her designer armor, the fire in her eyes that matches the burn of his own rage. "That's your solution? A wedding band as a weapon?" He said ignoring the part where she just referred to him as an illegitimate child. "The only weapon they won't see coming." She steps closer, close enough for him to catch the scent of her perfume, gunpowder and jasmine. "Our fathers stole our birthrights. The sole reason they betrayed us. We join forces, create our own empire that'll bring down theirs." A beat of silence. Then, Stefan's mouth curves into something sharp. "One condition," he murmurs, closing the distance. "No divorces. No surrenders. If we're doing this, it's for life" "Deal" Mia said without missing a beat. Her father wants to destroy her life. She wouldn't give him the pleasure, she would destroy her life as she seems fit. ................ Two shattered heirs. One deadly vow. A marriage built on revenge. Mia Meyers was born to rule her father's empire (so she thought), until he named his bastard son heir instead. Stefan Sterling knows the sting of betrayal too. His father discarded him like trash. Now the rivals' disgraced children have a poisonous proposal: Marry for vengeance. Crush their fathers' legacies. Never speak of divorce. Whoever cracks first loses everything. Can these two rivals, united by their vengeful hearts, pull off a marriage of convenience to reclaim what they believe is rightfully theirs? Or will their fathers' animosity, and their own complicated pasts tear their fragile alliance apart?

Marrying My Runaway Groom's Powerful Father

I was sitting in the Presidential Suite of The Pierre, wearing a Vera Wang gown worth more than most people earn in a decade. It was supposed to be the wedding of the century, the final move to merge two of Manhattan's most powerful empires. Then my phone buzzed. It was an Instagram Story from my fiancé, Jameson. He was at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris with a caption that read: "Fuck the chains. Chasing freedom." He hadn't just gotten cold feet; he had abandoned me at the altar to run across the world. My father didn't come in to comfort me. He burst through the door roaring about a lost acquisition deal, telling me the Holland Group would strip our family for parts if the ceremony didn't happen by noon. My stepmother wailed about us becoming the laughingstock of the Upper East Side. The Holland PR director even suggested I fake a "panic attack" to make myself look weak and sympathetic to save their stock price. Then Jameson’s sleazy cousin, Pierce, walked in with a lopsided grin, offering to "step in" and marry me just to get his hands on my assets. I looked at them and realized I wasn't a daughter or a bride to anyone in that room. I was a failed asset, a bouncing check, a girl whose own father told her to go to Paris and "beg" the man who had just publicly humiliated her. The girl who wanted to be loved died in that mirror. I realized that if I was going to be sold to save a merger, I was going to sell myself to the one who actually controlled the money. I marched past my parents and walked straight into the VIP holding room. I looked the most powerful man in the room—Jameson’s cold, ruthless uncle, Fletcher Holland—dead in the eye and threw the iPad on the table. "Jameson is gone," I said, my voice as hard as stone. "Marry me instead."

I was finally brought back to the billionaire Vance estate after years in the grimy foster system, but the luxury Lincoln felt more like a funeral procession. My biological family didn't welcome me with open arms; they looked at me like a stain on a silk shirt. They thought I was a "defective" mute with cognitive delays, a spare part to be traded away. Within hours of my arrival, my father decided to sell me to Julian Thorne, a bitter, paralyzed heir, just to secure a corporate merger. My sister Tiffany treated me like trash, whispering for me to "go back to the gutter" before pouring red wine over my dress in front of Manhattan's elite. When a drunk cousin tried to lay hands on me at the engagement gala, my grandmother didn't protect me-she raised her silver-topped cane to strike my face for "embarrassing the family." They called me a sacrificial lamb, laughing as they signed the prenuptial agreement that stripped me of my freedom. They had no idea I was E-11, the underground hacker-artist the world was obsessed with, or that I had already breached their private servers. I found the hidden medical records-blood types A, A, and B-a biological impossibility that proved my "parents" were harboring a scandal that could ruin them. Why bring me back just to discard me again? And why was Julian Thorne, the man supposedly bound to a wheelchair, secretly running miles at dawn on his private estate? Standing in the middle of the ballroom, I didn't plead for mercy. I used a text-to-speech app to broadcast a cold, synthetic threat: "I have the records, Richard. Do you want me to explain genetics to the press, or should we leave quietly?" With the "paralyzed" billionaire as my unexpected accomplice, I walked out of the Vance house and into a much more dangerous game.
