Chapter 1 01

ISBERLT.

A long sigh flies past my mouth as I drop the serum on the desk; turning around in my seat to remove my glasses, I gaze out the window to see that darkness has already covered the world; the illuminating light from the full moon, the only source of light which once again reminds me I'm the only one left in the company-excluding the parading guards.

Staring at the moon, I'm drawn to it, and find myself at my office window, arms crossed against my chest as memories that I find hard to keep down every day flow through my mind.

I remember how excited mother used to be during full moons, and the look that always covers dad's face anytime he watches his wife give praises to the feeling of excitement that comes with the full moon.

And I also remember the betrayed look on mother's face the last time I saw her-the last full moon that she saw.

My heart clenches at the memory, and I close my eyes, trying to shut it back down.

With another sigh leaving my lips, I turn back to the serum that sits at my desk; a frown covering my face when I realize my staying back at the lab turns out futile.

I have been very curious about the test subjects these sera are used on, and Doctor Shelley-one of the head researchers-have refused to let me into the other lab rooms where the test subjects are being kept, which is why I'm currently digging holes into the vial, instead of hiding myself under my duvet in my room with a bowl of popcorn in hand.

Shaking my head, I remove my Googles before proceeding to walk out of my office; heading to the bigger office to get the charts for the week.

Maybe it's the fact that I stupidly forgot to bring a source of light along, knowing fully damn well that no one is expected to still be in here but somehow, I miss my way, and I move down an unfamiliar hallway, shivers running down my spine from the dead drop silence that occupies this area, also from the knowledge that I've never been to this part of the lab.

Researching has always been something I'm fond of-something I take great pleasure in doing-which is why when I made it past the outskirts of my old home; the first thing I did was work my ass off to get myself to learn more about it.

It's only been a few months since Doctor Zion admitted me to be one of his lab assistants, and of course, I love my job so far, but my curiosity about the new serum that's been passed down, and why the test subjects is a prohibited area for me gawks at my mind every night.

And trust me, I do not do well with being curious about anything.

I stop in my tracks when I come to a dead-end which doesn't seem like a dead-end, but a room that's locked away from the other parts of the company.

Taking slow strides towards it, my heart pace increases when my hyperactive sense of heart kicks in, and I listen to the low growls that come from the other end of the room.

There's someone in there. And I want to know who exactly it is.

Wrapping my hand around the cold doorknob, a feeling of guilt kicks in at the fact that I'm not allowed to be here.

I jolt back in shock when my phone vibrates in my lab coat, dropping a hand over my chest to calm down my racing heart.

Taking few steps away from the door, I bring my phone out of my coat to find Corey's name glaring at me from the screen.

What the hell is he still doing up at this moment?

Exact question I should ask myself? Yes, I know.

Moving away from the door, I glue the phone to my ear, and breathe into it; voice extremely low.

"Corey, why the hell are you calling me?"

Corey is my lab mate, who also is my roommate. Yeah, big coincidence.

"Drowning in misery without you here? Why aren't you back yet? I thought you were just going to check on the data and leave. "

A sound of him munching on what I presume should be popcorn comes after his words, and I scrunch my nose.

Another big misery-Corey seems to know about the test subjects that are hidden from me for a very mysterious reason, and anytime I try to ask him about it; he just changes the topic.

It's as if everyone in the company knows about what's going on. Expect me. And somehow, they expect me to be alright with it.

Well, I guess I was until this new serum came in.

"I finished working on that, but found something else to work on. I'm not sure how I landed here, but I'm at a complete side of the company, Corey. I guess my night might be useful after all. "

"What are you talking about? Isberlt, please don't tell me you went to the prohibited side of the office. "

Maybe it's the fact that I am distracted talking to Corey, or I'm high on adrenaline or the fact that I'm slowly losing my inner skills and strengths after leaving the pack and shutting down my wolf.

Whatever reason it is, I cannot sense the change in the atmosphere, or I did late as my body collides against the wall, the phone dropping from my grip, and a wince slipping through my lips.

Raising my gaze to meet the force that keeps my body pinned against the hard wall, my breath hitches in my throat when icy blue eyes glare back at me; the face covered in a scowl.

"Found. You. "

He growls, and I shake in fear at the realization of who this intruder is.

An Alpha.

I received a pornographic video. "Do you like this?" The man speaking in the video is my husband, Mark, whom I haven't seen for several months. He is naked, his shirt and pants scattered on the ground, thrusting forcefully on a woman whose face I can't see, her plump and round breasts bouncing vigorously. I can clearly hear the slapping sounds in the video, mixed with lustful moans and grunts. "Yes, yes, fuck me hard, baby," the woman screams ecstatically in response. "You naughty girl!" Mark stands up and flips her over, slapping her buttocks as he speaks. "Stick your ass up!" The woman giggles, turns around, sways her buttocks, and kneels on the bed. I feel like someone has poured a bucket of ice water on my head. It's bad enough that my husband is having an affair, but what's worse is that the other woman is my own sister, Bella. ************************************************************************************************************************ “I want to get a divorce, Mark,” I repeated myself in case he didn't hear me the first time—even though I knew he'd heard me clearly. He stared at me with a frown before answering coldly, "It's not up to you! I'm very busy, don't waste my time with such boring topics, or try to attract my attention!" The last thing I was going to do was argue or bicker with him. "I will have the lawyer send you the divorce agreement," was all I said, as calmly as I could muster. He didn't even say another word after that and just went through the door he'd been standing in front of, slamming it harshly behind him. My eyes lingered on the knob of the door a bit absentmindedly before I pulled the wedding ring off my finger and placed it on the table. I grabbed my suitcase, which I'd already had my things packed in and headed out of the house.
