"Joanna Kelly was set up for three years in prison. On the first day of her release from prison, her ex-boyfriend proposed to her. She thought she had met her true love, but she didn't expect it was all her boyfriend's scheme. To take revenge, Joanna signed a contract and got married to Tim Howard, who is finally found to be the heir to Howard Family, cold, heartless, arrogant and unsympathetic. Tim is willing to help Joanna get revenge in return for a share in Joanna's mother's company. The marriage was originally just a trade between the two, so when everything was done, Joanna just served Tim with divorce papers. Unexpectedly, Tim pulled her to his arms and expressed his love. Being held in Tim's arms, Joanna trembled as hearing his expression of love and asked with surprise, ""You, you love me?"""

Be Decent, My Hubby! Chapter 1 Are You Here Trying to Take a Bite of Me

A heavy headache struck her.

Joanna Kelly tried to move slightly only to find her neck was more painful and her body was weak and aching.

She opened her eyes and found a crystal chandelier glittering brightly above in the white carved ceiling.

Then she looked around the luxury room and the large bed.

She was in a hotel.

Joanna eased herself and remembered everything.

"Joanna, I've been waiting for you to come back. Marry me!"

"Stay with me tonight." That whisper was full of affection and temptation.

Owen Howard and she would become a couple at last.

Surprised and astonished as she was that Owen was waiting for her and proposed once she came back after three years.

Suddenly the sound came when the door of the bathroom was opened. Joanna was blushed and felt her face burning, "Owe--" Owen.

She did not utter out that name before she was stunned by the man in front of her.

A tall and slim man walking out of the bathroom, with a bath towel wrapped around his waist, and his wheatish firm upper body naked. That face was clearly defined out. And he looked at her with one corner of his mouth curved up while the lights in his eyes were dimmed. The expression on his face was more than a smile.

-It was not Owen Howard at all!

Then who was he?!

Joanna rose from the bed quickly, leaving no consideration of her weak and aching body, dragged the quilt that slipped from her shoulder, and moved towards the corner of the bed.

"Who are you?" Joanna was so frightened that her voice sounded different from the usual.

That man walked casually towards her.

"That's the question that I am supposed to ask you."

He sat down on the bad directly, which made Joanna move backward to the corner and almost fell from the bed.

Had she worn any clothes, she would have run and left the room immediately.

"Who are you? And why are you on my bed?"

He got close to her and there was a hidden warning in his smiling eyes.

His bed?

She stayed with Owen last night and drank a lot of wine with him because she was so happy with that proposal.

After that, Owen asked her to stay with him and she agreed in a daze.

Then why she woke up in someone else's bed?

"I..."

Joanna did not know what she could say.

She could not remember what happened last night after she got drunk, let alone why she was in his bed.

That man suddenly got even closer to her and held her chin with his slender yet powerful fingers.

A sarcastic expression appeared in his face, "Let me say it for you, are you here trying to take a bite of me?"

"..." Took a bite of him?

How could she do that when she had no idea who he was?

"Boom! Boom--"

There was an extremely loud sound came from the door. Someone was bashing on the door instead of knocking.

"You still want to deny it?" That man held her chin even more tightly with a look that he knew everything, "You called people to come here and catch us in the spot. What do you want? Money? Or you want me to marry you?"

Money? Marriage?

What was that?

"No, there must be an explanation for all this..." Joanna tried to calm herself down and explained.

When she finished her words, the door was opened to another loud sound.

"Ah!"

She shouted out of surprise, got rid of his hand, and hid under the quilt before anyone strode in the room.

She could not imagine what would happen between Owen and her if they saw her in someone else's bed.

The sound of heavy steps came, followed by a series of crazy clicks of taking photos.

"Tim, I was curious before why you didn't go to the company or return to the Howards. Now I know your secret. You got an Eden outside! May I know which lady is honored to have your attention?"

Tim?

A Howard?

The woman under the quilt suddenly stiffed.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch—a titan of industry and my best friend’s father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

I went to the City Clerk’s office for a routine copy of my marriage license to finalize a trust fund audit. I expected a simple piece of paper, but the clerk’s pitying look told me my entire life was a lie. "The license was never finalized, Ms. Oliver. In the eyes of the state, you are single." The three-hundred-guest wedding at the Plaza and the Vogue features meant nothing. My husband, Gray Cooley, had intentionally filed the documents with a "procedural defect" so he could discard me without a legal divorce. Moments later, an iCloud invite titled "Our Little Secret" popped up on my screen. It was a photo of my best friend, Brylee, holding a positive pregnancy test at our Hamptons estate. Gray’s text to her was the final blow: "Happy anniversary, babe. This baby is the best gift. Once the trust unlocks today, we’re done with the charade." I soon discovered they were even stealing my career, reassigning my architectural masterpiece to Brylee while preparing my eviction notice. Gray's mother called me a "barren mule" in a leaked recording, mocking the infertility I suffered after saving Gray’s life in a construction accident. I wasn't a wife; I was a three-year placeholder used to secure his inheritance. How could the man I bled for treat me like a disposable prop? How could my best friend carry his child while pretending to comfort me through my darkest moments? The betrayal burned until it turned into a cold, hard stone of fury. I didn't cry. Instead, I walked into the penthouse of the Barretts, the Cooleys' most powerful rivals. I signed a marriage contract with Kane Barrett, the man the tabloids called the "Beast of Wall Street." "I want a wedding," I told his father, my voice steady and lethal. "Bigger than the one I had with Gray." If they wanted me gone, they would have to watch me become the woman who owns their world.

I thought I was waking up in the arms of Arthur, the man I loved. But as the morning light hit the Hamptons estate, the man buttoning his cuffs by the window turned around with eyes like chips of ice. It was Augustus Riddle, Arthur’s cruel younger brother, and I had just spent the night whispering confessions of love into the wrong man's ear. The night I thought was a beautiful beginning turned into a devastating nightmare. Instead of comfort, Gus treated me like a stain on his expensive carpet, scribbling a check for "services rendered" before shoving me into a dark service corridor to hide my existence from his brother. "How much does it cost to buy your silence?" He sneered, before leaving me barefoot in a torrential downpour while he drove away in a luxury Cadillac. Four years later, I am a struggling actress in Los Angeles, working double shifts as a barista just to keep the lights on. My life was finally stable until my roommate dragged me to a high-end dinner to meet her new "influential" boyfriend. The man sitting at the table, looking more arrogant and lethal than ever, was Augustus. He spent the entire night humiliating me, calling me a pathetic amateur and a social climber in front of my only friends. When I fled into the rain and collapsed on the sidewalk, skinning my knee until I bled, he watched from his car. He saw me clutching a plastic baggie containing the taped-together pieces of that four-year-old check—the only proof of my shame. He looked at me like roadkill, rolled up his window, and drove off into the dark. I couldn't understand why he was doing this. Why did he hate me enough to crush me, yet remember that I couldn't handle the smell of cigarette smoke? Why did he leave me bleeding in the street, only to send expensive medical supplies and coffee to my door the very next morning? "I'm moving out." I told my roommates, realizing that Gus Riddle didn't just want to destroy me; he wanted to haunt me. I grabbed my suitcase and walked out with eighty dollars to my name, finally ready to disappear into the city before he could burn the rest of my life to the ground.
