Chapter 1 Start

"I, jake, alpha of the summer moon pack, ban Ivy gold from my pack. Let her live her life out as a rogue! She is no longer welcomed in this pack nor will she ever be!"

I dipped my head to jake.

"I understand alpha, I will leave right away."

I turned to leave. My bow and arrow slung across my shoulder and my morph suit on. It allowed me to shift back into human form with out being naked.

I can't believe they kicked us out! Sara, my wolf, screamed inside my head.

I know sara, calm down!

I sighed and shifted, my paws thumping on the ground as I ran through the woods. My bow and arrows had shifted with me, which quite honestly, seemed impossible but whatever.

The grass was soft against my paws as I ran, the night wind nipping at my fur.

I slowed to a jog, not wanting to waste my energy. I was alone now. I had no one to watch my back, no one to watch. I was a rouge. I was free.

No alpha to control my every move, no pack to tease me, no mate to worry about.

We haven't even found our mate yet! You don't know that you will hate him!

Sara, I don't want a stupid mate!!

My wolf whimpered as I blocked her out.

I could smell the territory line nearing, if I crossed it, I could do whatever I wanted. Quickly I ran over to it and jumped across with glee. Freedom. No pack to bind me down.

I kept running, the moon slowly crawling it's way up the sky. I stopped to howl at the moon goddess.

Crack!

My head whipped around to the sound of a twig breaking. I lowered myself into a crouch, ready to pounce on whoever was there.

I caught a glimpse of brown hair as a male wolf crept into view. He smelled like a rogue.

Curling my lips back to review my sharp white teeth, I growled at him.

"Your on my land." the wolf snarled.

"You are a rogue, you don't own land." I replied in a mater-of-fact tone.

"so are you." I rolled my eyes. Way to state the obvious smart ass!

"Yah, I love it." I grinned, being able to say that was great.

"Why would you want to be a rogue?"

The brown wolf tilted his head to the side, his ear flopped in front of his face.

"You are free, no alpha to hold you down, no mate to bother with, no pack to defend."

The brown wolf shifted to reveal a brown haired boy, with tan skin and brown eyes. He was quite scrawny, even if his wolf was bigger than mine.

"I'm Jared." he reached out a hand to shake mine.

I shifted and reached my hand out to meet his.

"Ivy."

I turned to leave, I had things to do, places to see, people to meet.

"Wait Ivy-"

I turned back to look at Jared.

"I haven't traveled with another wolf for months, I know you hate having to rely on people and have them relying on you, but I would really love your company... If you wanted to..."

I had to suppress a laugh as I watched him struggle to speak. He frowned and looked at the ground as I hesitated to answer.

"I guess I could for a little."

He looked up and instantly brightened up. He looked like a kid when he got excited.

He nodded and ran off, shifting as he ran. I grinned and shifted, running after him.

-one month later-

I ran through the forest to the river bank as I heard Jared panting behind me. My paws thudded against the sandy shore of the river as I leaped across. I panted and sat down, putting my head on my paws as I watched Jared attempt to jump across it, the blue water rushing fast, waiting for some idiot to get caught in the current. He jumped but his paw slipped and he went crashing into the hungry water, his head going under for a second.

I laughed as he climbed out of the river, his brown pelt dripping. He turned to look at me.

"Oh shut up Ivy."

I giggled. Wait what? Did I just giggle?

I sighed and shifted, standing to my full hight, I brushed the sand off my hands. He did the same.

We began to walk into the forest to explore this Unknown side. Jared tumbled onto the floor, screaming like a little girl.

"Wow Jared... Very smooth"

He looked up at me and sighed. I stopped laughing as a sent hit my nose and shifted immediately. Jared looked at me and then sniffed the air.

"A pack" he whispered, clenching his teeth.

"Climb up a tree"

I shifted back and ran up a tree, not wanting the patrol that was nearing to see us. Jared just stood there still shifted. He was going to do something stupid.

"Jared!" I whispered. He turned to me.

"They will smell us, if they see just one of us, then they won't go after the other. I'm sorry Ivy, but I won't let them find you."

I looked down at him and watched as he turned to face the woods where the enemy stood. Five wolves, all bigger than him and twice my size. The wolf in the front was a silver wolf. Power was radiating off of him, not alpha power but still power. He was the beta. Jared growled at the bigger wolves, crouching in a defensive position.

The big silver wolf barked a command to the brown one on its left. Then the brown wolf charged. Jared didn't stand a chance. It ran him over, and pinned him on the ground. I watched in horror as another brown wolf came up and attacked his neck. Jared eyes lit up with pain and then he fell still.

I screamed and jumped down from the tree, shifting on the way. My paws landed with a thump.

I pulled my lips back in a snarl and walked over to Jared, still facing the other wolves.

Lunging for the wolf that had pinned Jared down, i latched my teeth in his neck and quickly bit down, ending his life. I turned to the wolf that had bit him and growled. He backed off, snarling. I crept over to Jared and lay down, resting my head on his neck. I began to lick the blood off his neck in an attempt to clean the wound.

"Ivy..." His voice was nearly a whisper as he said my name.

"Jared...your going to be ok... You'll be fine" I could feel a tear roll down the fur on my neck.

"Ivy... I think I'm in..."

He coughed up blood and a spasm shook his body.

"I think... I-I'm in... Love w-with you"

I looked at him and buried my head in his neck.

"I love you too Jared."

"D-don't forget m-me"

"Never"

He breathed out a sigh, relaxing as he took his final breath.

"I love you Jared."

Tears began to poor down my cheek. Sadness filled my stomach. Even though he wasn't my mate, I loved him. He was my best friend. Sara whimpered inside my mind. She was friends with his wolf.

The sadness was suddenly replaced with anger. No one hurts my wolf. No one!

I growled and stood, looking at the wolf who killed him.

Snarling, i lunged, raking my claws down his back. I grabbed hold of his scruff and shook him. He growled and turned to snap at me. I slammed my paw down on his head and he lay still. Dead.

I looked over at the other wolves. The beta growled at me.

"You are going to the alpha. In fact he should be here any moment now." he sneered.

I knew the alpha would kill me. I was about to run when I heard a crack and smelled the best thing in the world. He smelled of pine trees and berries.

I looked down at Jared, I would come back to burry him. Right now I had to run.

My wolf screamed the one word I was dreading.

Mate.
