Chapter one..
Bryan is seen dressing up in his bedroom while his wife gets up from bed lazily and picks up with a fight. Bryan! Bryan! Bryan! Sylvia calls as her husband walks out on her in their bedroom. She gets devastated and frustrated, rising up from the bed following him to the kitchen where he headed too. Bryan takes a cup of coffee and sips it hot. Seeing sylvia, he drops the cup of coffee on the dining table next to their kitchen.
Bryan! How dare you walk out on me? Sylvia nags. And who do you think you are that you think you are worthy of ruling me?Bryan asked in a questioning tone. I an your wife Bryan. Am trying hard to let our marriage work but...... Ellipse comes in sylvia's sentence but Bryan cuts in.. But what?. I don't take care of you? Haven't I done enough? Or don't I take care of your daughter?
Our daughter. Sylvia corrected her husband. "Whatever, I don't give a damn". Bryan said walking out on her. Sylvia became short of words as she couldn't utter any other statement. She turns her back to face her naughty husband who had just walked away from her. No manners,Bryan! She yelled. Or have you forgotten? My dad picked you up from that dirty job you did. You were once wretched and poverty prevailed over you life then. Why are you so ungrateful?.. You were a common tailor who was a graduate to pursue police career. A common tailor. She exaggerated.
So what did you gain from that now? I don't have your time. You and your father are so proud of your unclean ego.. Ego was referred to money in African homes.
Don't involve my father in this. Sylvia yelled. You useless brat. "Me? A useless brat?".Bryan asked with anger fuming in him. Just as he gets no response from sylvia who just laughed at him making mockery of him, he gives her a slap on her cheeks, heading outside their house since he was ready for the day's work. She follows him outside, questioning him now with tears in her eyes.
Bryan, you slapped me?
No. No n o n no no no, I I I am sorry. He stammered to sylvia. It's the work of Lucifer, the devil I never meant to do that. He said wiping her tears this time.
"Work of the devil you say! But don't you realize that you would pay for this?" She said pointing at her right cheek where she had been slapped and talked with affirmation her voice.
Pay? Pay for what? Bryan asked asked confused. He feared now because it was Sylvia's father who made him who he was today. He (Bryan) was a honest tailor and man known for generosity and integrity. Though, he had been influenced by Sylvia's father who was a drug lord but he still had his principles. What do I do now? He muttered in his mind.
Sylvia leaves him outside going back inside their house satisfied that she had threatened him enough. She knew Bryan would come begging for her so she felt relaxed on the couch in their sitting room. What do you think her plan was?
Sylvia's sat down in the sitting room thinking about how she would make their marriage work when Bryan approached to her. He kneels down and says "Look sweetheart, I am sorry for slapping you earlier. What ever just happened, pls forgive me for our love sake.
"Love? Do you know what is even called love?"
Look am sorry sylvia. But you know, you ought to use your sense of respect. Sense of respect you say! Sylvia says angrily... Just as they were I a hot seat, their daughter Maureen walks up to them. She is dressed in her night wear as she walk down the stairs to meet them.
Guys, what's the argument all about this time? I just woke up and heard noise from this direction. Gosh, you guys are too lousy. I can't that both of you are the ones making noise instead of those kids at the bridge She said as she hissed and walked out on them without even saying a good morning.
"You see that, not even a good morning from her you are an housewife for crying out loud your does a couldn't even say good morning she just referred to us as guys. After all, I pay for a morals and her upkeep. Sylvia cuts in..... Morals you say.. Have you any? Have you forgotten that the money you pay me is my money? Interest from my father's business? Why are you such an ungrateful dog? You are only interested in your clients and not in your family. Bryan, we ought to know your worth as a father now that you are still alive....
Dog? You mean I am a dog? Where on earth where you when God created everyone with sense? Have you any? You even wish me dead? Abah! He sighed and walked away. Bryan couldn't argue any further because he believed that if he argued further, it was a waste. Moreover, he had a client waiting for him.. Hhe left home in haste.. Sylvia thinks of making him jealous of her since he doesn't appreciate her even a little. She thought of pretending to cheat on him. But wait, what if he kills the man?She knew her husband's capability. She thought more further as Maureen comes out fully dressed for school. She wore her school uniform with her bag strapped at her bag. "Mum, I am on my way to school, see you later!" "Okay dear, dont be late after school closes". Sylvia said..
Yeah... Maureen said, kissing her mum on the forehead.
