At two, she did the unimaginable, she came home from school one day with her face squeezed. Her mother called and called her name but she didn't answer. why aren't you answering your name patience? her mother questioned Don't call me patience, I don't like that name, how will you call me patience? little patience she replied her mother with a question... shocked by what her little daughter said, Mrs Gold thought maybe her teacher had annoyed her in School that is why she's acting that way. it's okay my dear, come let's go patience, Mrs Gold told her daughter mummy I have told you, don't call me patience, my name is not patience She fired again. will you keep quiet my friend, if your name is not patience, what then is your name? my name is Sarah, patience replied. your name is not Sarah, your name is patience, your father and I gave you that name and nobody is changing it, not even you. by the way where did you hear that name? who told your name is Sarah? answer me quickly, Mrs Gold threatened. it's me, nobody called me Sarah, I called myself. mummy please change my name to Sarah, I don't want you to call me patience again. come to my school tomorrow and tell my teachers please mummy. I want to be called Sarah. okay, I'll discuss it with your daddy when he returns from work. still baffled with what two year old patience was saying, Mrs patience went ahead to prepare lunch for her daughter. When Mr Gold arrived from work, his wife related the drama that happened between between patience and herself. Mr Gold was shocked, how can a child in nursery two be saying all of these? After a visitation to patience school the following day to make enquires about the kind of friends she keeps and her attitude in school, her name was changed from patience to Sarah. Sarah grew as a normal child will do but the only problem she had was that she was slow at speech and as a result of this, she stays away from her friends to avoid being ridiculed. As the years rolled, little Sarah had a lot of dreams but her father was not always in agreement to her wishes. He always wanted to bend her to his side not only as a child but also when she's an adult. Sarah is now grown but her father won't let her be, she discovers that she is responsible for whatever happens in her life and that even if the decision was taken by someone else, she is the one to bear the consequences of the outcome of the decision. And as a result of her discovery, she starts taking decisions for herself. She no longer wants to consider who, what. remains in her life, what matters to her is that " she has a say in what ever happens in her life". These words were her words.

Chapter 1 1

I will be traveling back to work on Friday and I want you to use this opportunity to visit my parents at the village, Mr Gold told his wife. okay, there's no problem, replied Mrs Gold. You will just help me to arrange what I'll take there. Don't worry I will do that. Mr and Mrs Gold got married at their early ages, this was so because they wanted to start raising their children on time. Their marriage was the kind that the other couples In the street marvelled at. The bond between the Golds' was an unbreakable one. in the evening of Thursday, Mr Gold drove his wife to his hometown.

he took his wife straight to his mother's house so that she can be cared since she was heavily pregnant. After exchanging pleasantries with his Mom and others around, Mr Gold took off to the city; from where he will proceed to his place of work the following morning. Early on Friday morning, Mr Gold zoomed off in his car, as he began his 9 hours journey. Meanwhile in the village, Mrs Gold was at the village with her quarrelsome mother in-law. Another argument has started again between mother inlaw and daughter in-law. Mama wants his daughter in-law to do the house chores since she's around but her daughter in-law argues with her that she can only wash the dishes. Mama calls her lazy woman, she doesn't want to consider the fact that she is heavily pregnant. After much ado, Mrs Gold washed the dishes, prepared breakfast and left for her sister in-law's place where she went to relax herself from mother inlaw's queries. In the evening of Friday, Mrs Gold decides to return to her mother inlaw's house but she is trapped by labour pain, her sister in-law quickly rushed her to the community hospital. At about some minutes to nine at night, Mrs Gold put to bed and behold, she was a girl. Mrs Gold immediately called her husband to tell him about the good news. Mrs Gold was discharged the following day to their home in the city, she travelled back with her mother inlaw and her sister in-law. Mr Gold returned after two days to welcome his baby daughter. On the eighth day of the baby's arrival, she was named patience. Patience started growing, she was the pride of her parents, although she was not the first child. As she grew, her parents discovered that she was a stamarer. Her slowness in speech made her to always stay alone for the fear of being teased by her playmates. Her mother was worried about her her attitude of staying alone all the time. As a result of her attitude, her mother decided to enroll her in school early so that she can learn how to mingle with people on time. At the age of two, patience was already in the midst of her friends, although she goes out with them but she does it frequently.
