Chapter 1 1: Beginning

Ace's POV

“Ace, may I ask why you want to study there? That’s a fine university and you are going to need a

scholarship because the shelter’s money is not enough to treasure you there.” he worriedly said.

I sighed and smiled sadly. I know that. I know he is going to say that. That is why, I prepared myself from

it. I smiled and took out what is inside the envelope I was holding as I came in inside his office. I don’t

need to always rely on him because I know he’s sacrificing something for us already.

“What is that?” he surprisingly asked me.

I love how he acts very surprised. Though, he is the man who used to stand as my father all along. I

smiled and showed it to him. He grabs his eyeglass and wore it. I handed the paper to him and as I

expected. His got bigger and gasped in surprised.

“Surprise.” I chuckled.

He slowly smiled widely and hugs me. I know he is going to be very happy for me. He is Nicholas Simons

and everyone calls him Nick. He is the kindest person I have ever met. Being alone and abandoned, he

didn’t think twice to give me a name with his name.

“A scholarship. I know you are going to make it. Make me proud. Make us proud. Make your family here

proud. I know you are not going to fail us, Ace. I believe in you. We believed in you.” He whispered at

me.

I want to cry but I don’t want to. Drake and Jeremy behind us sniffs and acts like children while crying. I

laugh and rolled my eyes. With all the children I have grew up here. They are the best ones I have. They

never left me.

“Come on, guys. It’s like I am going to permanently leave you. Just how many years and will come back

to take you as well. You are part of my successful plan in the future. You both know that.” I said and pat

their shoulders.

They are still lucky they have their real names unlike mine. But worst, their parents really gave them up

personally to our father, Nick. I looked around and looked at him. Dad is a priest, the head one, but

because of his age already, he needs to rest and take care of his shelter.

“Dad..” Yes, I call him dad and even my friends.

Most of us calls him that because he really deserves it. He knows how to take care of us even though we

are not his real children. He loves us just like he loves his shelter. He really built his orphanage for

people like us, abandoned and given up.

“Don’t say any words, Ace. Just go and follow your goals. I know you can do this.” Dad said.

“Thank you, dad. For everything, thank you.” I smiled and nodded.

After that day, the three of them voluntarily send me to my new home which is dad’s home since his

parents are still alive. No one lives there. He asked me to live there because it is near to my school. I don’t want to leave them but it’s part of my plan. I need to do this not just for myself but for all of us

there. They are my family and I will never abandon them just like my parents did to me. Useless

parents... they are.

After four years.....

“May we call on our Summa Cum Laude, Mr. Ace Simons. Let us all give him a round of applause!” the

host which is the head mister of the University announced.

I heard my best friends yelling and cheering for me. I smiled and waved to everyone as I marched on the

stage. I can see my dad crying and even my friends. Most of the people in the orphanage came to clap

and witness my honor. I am so happy and couldn’t express my emotions.

“Hello. I hope we all have a nice day today. Standing in front you, I didn’t expect to be the highest of the

highest but I know I deserved this very much. Growing thinking you are being abandoned. It made me

feel very useless child. I can’t stop asking every night before I sleep.... Why? Why did they leave me

behind? Am I a burden to them?.... I know most of you here knew that I am an orphan and some says

being an orphan is a funny thing to be. You are wrong. To the man who stood up to be my parents all

over the years. I know you are so happy for me. And to my friends, now, I can help you in the future.

This gratitude is nor for me. This is for all of us. That is why, I want every orphan to know out there that

you can’t be able to do it. Look at me. I made it and I know you can make it as well. Thanks to the people

who believed, trust, and made me strong. Once again, this is Ace Simons, your Summa Cum Laude.” I

smiled and looked around while wiping my tears.

Everyone applauded their hands for me. I know because they felt sympathy for me but I don’t care

about it as long as I made it and showed them that I really can. Now, I can use what I know for my plan.

“Congratulations, son!” dad said.

“Congratulations, Ace!.” Drake and Jeremy said.

I smiled and hugged them. I can feel the family in them. I can hear them sniff. I know because we are

crying out of joy and happiness. Drake and Jeremy graduated as well but to some college not levels like

the University I just graduated to. They are so proud of me just like I am for myself. This is a very

great opportunity for me to be successful for real. And now, I am going to start what I need to start from now on.
