Scarlett's POV
"You're five weeks pregnant, Luna." The pack's doctor's voice rang over and over in my head, which made me smile as I rubbed on my still flat stomach and looked out my room's window.
To say that I was super excited was an understatement. I was beyond overjoyed.
My heart swelled with so much joy, and I was brimming with so much excitement about the prospect of breaking the news to my husband, Luke that at first, I didn't notice when he came into my room.
"Baby," I heard him call softly at me, and I jumped slightly in fright because I wasn't expecting him here in the first place.
He smiled, showing off his dimples and dropped a tray of mouthwatering goodies on the bedside table before he began walking towards me with a smug smile on his face.
I wanted to blurt out the good news to him, but I didn't. I already knew the surprise would totally blow his mind but at the same time I wanted it to come off as a bigger surprise.
We've been wanting to bear children ever since we got married a few years ago and took up the positions of Alpha and Luna after my parents died in an automobile accident.
My husband, Luke had been my pillar ever since. At first he used to be a gardener who worked only on weekends in my palace until I was finally introduced to him through Annabel, my best friend.
Right now, he was my only family, and I couldn't thank the moon goddess enough for bringing someone this lovely into my life.
As soon as he came over to me, he engulfed me in an embrace and began peppering featherlight kisses down the length of my back and neck.
"How did the meeting with Alpha Kingston go today?" I moaned, closing my eyes as he began a circular pattern with his tongue along the length of my neck.
I was almost about to give into his insanely sweet when he suddenly pulled away and began pushing me to the bed.
"It's too early for sex you know?" I said, wiggling my eyes suggestively at him; and in response he simply shrugged me off while he chuckled.
"Alpha Kingston is willing to be our Ally and is willing to buy some of our company shares...his only condition is that you'll be present during the meeting." He said, smiling.
I slowly sat on the bed, allowing him smother me with kisses and pampering. He placed the tray of food on my thighs and helped me with the cutleries.
"But you'll be there, you're alpha." I said exasperatedly.
"We'll yes I am, but he's one of the few people who still insists that you're Alpha and that I only took up the position because you got married to me." He scoffed.
I could see the angry lines that had formed across his forehead, and I sighed, patting a space beside me for him to come sit with me.
At my cue, he sat down and then held my hands in his as he spoke; "For how long do I have to live under your shadow?"
At first the question bothered me, and irked me but I shrugged it off thinking that he was probably frustrated, and so I replied;
"You are not living under my shadow my love, I love you and you love me; and I do not care how others see you aside from how I see you."
"To make you feel better, I already transferred my company's ownership to you. It's yours now and they would have no other option but to bend to your whims... I've done that since last week but didn't want to tell you about it initially." I added.
As soon as I said those, he quickly embraced me, and then just as the food tray was about to topple to the floor, he caught it and pushed it towards me.
I opened the plate of food immediately, and sighed, taking in the mouthwatering aroma of the spaghetti and baked zucchini and allowing it to fill my senses.
"Damn!" I mumbled as the food hit my tongue. It tasted just as good as it smelled, thus making my taste buds go on overdrive.
"You like it?" He asked, smiling at me and I could only nod to prevent myself from spilling half chewed food out of my mouth.
There was a quality to the way he stared at me that had me wondering if it was out of love or something else.
"I have good news!" I blurted, finding it quite difficult to contain my excitement. I noticed how he turned to stare curiously at me, but then looked away almost immediately.
"You can tell me all that when you're done eating." He mumbled.
"Won't you eat with me?" I asked suddenly, and was beyond shocked when he shook his head in negation.
Luke always ate with me. It was a sort of tradition between us as we felt it helped strengthen our bond; there had to be something absolutely mighty for him not to want to join me now.
"What's wrong?" I asked but when he wouldn't respond, I slowly looked up at him to find a brooding kind of expression across his handsome face.
It scared me so much that I dropped my cutlery and stared at the plate of food while my wolf kept whispering to me that something was definitely out of place.

"Please get me water, Luke." I croaked out, almost desperately as waves of intense pain ran from my midriffs until it wracked my entire body.
To my utter disbelief, he didn't move an inch, and neither did he behave like I just asked him to do something.
"Luke..." I cried. "My stomach hurts!" I yelled, doubling up in pain.
Instinctively, I looked up at him to further plead with him only to find myself looking into the eyes of my husband, which were presently filled with intense loathing.
"No." He muttered, eyeing me in disgust.
"Why are you doing this? What's in the food?!" I questioned in desperation. In response, he scoffed at me and then he glared at me.
"What do you think it is? Poison obviously." He replied cockily, without even an ounce of remorse in his voice.
"Why would do even do this to me..." I cried, feeling more waves of the pain run through my body until it was unbearable.
"For your throne obviously." He snapped. His reply seemed to enrage me, and at the same time felt like a huge slap to my face.
"But you said you loved me..." I cried, "was everything a sham, a way for you to simply become alpha? Was I a joke to you? Was my love a joke to you?"
"You have to stop spewing those gibberish out of your mouth before I'm forced to smack you hard across the face." He growled, staring down at me.
I stared at him in disbelief. This wasn't my Luke, my husband. The only man who had ever showered me with more than enough love and had made me fallen head over heels in love with him.
The cold floor felt a little too hard against my back and my body prickled painfully from its harshness against my skin.
"Luke..." I called out again but he ignored me.
I coughed suddenly and was beyond shocked when traces of blood fell off with my spittle. What has this man given to me?
How could he do this to me when I've done absolutely nothing wrong to deserve this sort of treatment from him.
"What did I ever do to you to deserve this..." I cried out as the pain in my stomach was fast spreading to my chest and making it quite impossible to breathe.
"Yo-you poisoned the food?" I stuttered, crying as an intense pain ran up my body. It was so intense that I shuddered from it.
"And who cares-" He started saying, noticed how he turned towards me as he tried to say something but immediately held his tongue when the door suddenly flung open, and someone else walked in.
From where I lay on the cold cemented floor with blood slowly seeping out of my mouth, the only thing I could make out was a lady's silhouette.
I held my breath, praying that she would be my saving grace until she finally stepped into the light, making my breath hitch in my throat.
"Annabel!" I screamed hopefully, with my hands outstretched as if in a bid to reach her feet.
I suddenly felt hopeful that she had intruded, for it was Annabel, my best friend!
