Chapter 1 1

Mason Pov's

May 1, 2022, 12:22 midnight...

I was home alone when everything happened.

I live in a small 2-story house located in the middle of the woods, an hour and a half walk down the road between the woods and the city of Aberdeen, South Dakota, USA.

The house was inherited from an aunt on my mother's side who passed away a couple of months ago, and I was just waiting to turn 18 to move into it.

I had been working since I was 16 years old as a creator of content on social networks and a video game streamer. I was one of the best, and I was doing very well because weekly I could earn between $1,000 and 1,500 dollars. Then, when I barely reached the age of majority, I spoke with my parents, and I decided to comply with my aunt's last wish, which was that I go live in that house and that for nothing in the world, I would want to sell it because the house would always be like a treasure to her from the first moment she acquired it, and she wanted me to treat the house just as she did in life: like a treasure.

The idea of moving to the outskirts of the city did not bother me at all it seemed great to me to do it because it would help me a lot with my concentration at work, it would change my environment, and since I was a child, I was always a lover of life in the rural area of a city, because, when I went on vacation from high school and middle school, I begged my mother to let me go stay at my aunt's house, and she ended up accepting after so much insistence, and my aunt ended up receiving me because even though she lived alone, and was 56 years old when she died due to lung cancer; my aunt always enjoyed the company of her nephews, even though I was the only one who cared to visit her.

We were 3 nephews in the family: my cousin Adele, my cousin Alberto, and I, but neither Adele nor Alberto liked to go to stay at my aunt's house, they always left with the excuse that they either didn't have time or simply didn't like to go because the only night they stayed to sleep, they say that the next day they ran out of there to never stay again.

I never believed them when they told me that, at night, after midnight, both inside and outside the house, strange things began to happen, and by strange things, they meant that they always scared them.

Adele told me one of the most terrifying stories of hers that happened to her when she had to be left completely alone because she did not want to accompany my aunt to go shopping at the supermarket. Adele was sitting in the dining room outside the house, which was located there because it was the place where my aunts and my mother sat to talk while having tea when the family gathered at my aunt's house.

According to Adele, it was 9:00 at night; she was early, unlike the other things that had happened to her, being after midnight. She was talking to her best friend by phone when she finally got a signal, and she sat down there at the table to talk, when suddenly, in one of the bushes that surrounded the house, she saw how it began to move by itself, to shake from one side to the other, just as it would do when there was an animal or a person inside.

Adele thought that perhaps it was a rabbit or a squirrel looking for food, or simply hanging around, and she didn't care, as she continued talking to her friend as if nothing was happening, but soon, from inside the bush, a hand pale and white, she peered outside, standing on the ground as if whatever was coming out of the bush was going to crawl out, and precisely, Adele froze, and quickly hung up the call with her friend to get up in a hurry to get inside of the house that, luckily, she had decided to leave with the door open, and she no longer had to see that thing that came out of the bush that terrified her so much.

When the three of us met one night in a pizzeria to celebrate Adele's birthday, she told this story to Alberto and me. We listened very carefully while we didn't stop eating our pizza; however, she stopped at that moment. As she spoke about the hand, her body shuddered, and she closed her eyes as if she could avoid bringing to mind the vision of that horrible memory for her.

After her, it was Alberto's turn. He confessed that he had also stayed alone at our aunt's house because she still saw her friends from high school who lived in the city, and once a month they always met for a Saturday night at the house of one of them to spend a pleasant time with each other. Alberto did not want to go because he knew that he was not invited to that meeting anyway and he did not want to bother the idea of his presence there. My aunt left home at 6:00 in the afternoon that day, and Alberto had been playing video games on his computer until 3:30 in the morning when everything happened to him.

Alberto had just finished playing a round of the same game that I was playing as a pro, except that he was at an intermediate player level and still didn't earn money from streaming as I did, but that night, he didn't anymore.

He played by connecting online to chat with a friend while they were playing. After his game, Alberto got hungry; my aunt had not returned home, and she had left a message for Alberto that she was going to stay the night at her friend's house because the reunion was so much fun and she didn't want to drive away so late on the road alone.

Therefore, Alberto had been completely alone at my aunt's house, but at the end of the game, he got hungry, and at about 8:00 at night, he ordered a pizza box that arrived half an hour later. Late, and since he had two portions left over, he decided to go to the kitchen to serve them and eat in the dining room.

However, when he got to the kitchen, he found the unpleasant surprise that one of the cabinets on the top of the kitchen was opening and closing of its own accord as if an invisible person was there just to do it.
