Roy is on a mission to eliminate the deados, will he succeed?

Chapter 1 The Gateway is Opened

It all began in a town called Red Creek, UTAH…In the year 1876, The sky was partly cloudy and a full moon eclipse was about to take place.

There a man named Otis, digging for gold in Red Creek mine — it was in a cave.

“I know you haven’t been used up”

“They all say you are all used but I know you still got some gold left in you”, Otis said.

Has he dug on, the full moon eclipse took place and suddenly, Otis dug a deep hole which was very surprising to him. The cave began to rumble and Otis fell down hard on the ground. He crawled towards the hole and looked into the hole and inside of it looked like fire which was very strange. He tried to put his hand in the hole but fire caught his glove which made him scared and he tried to put out the fire which he finally did. He went closer the hole and bent over it and suddenly something popped out like a demon a possessed Otis. During possession, the demon made Otis levitate in the air and forged a red circle on his chest before releasing him to the ground. Otis got up from the ground a different man — Possessed by Astaroth.

One month later, On a bright sunny day in Horseshoe, WY…The train came to a stop. There he was, Roycephus Pulsipher, the Sheriff of Horseshoe waiting for this daughter (Charlotte) and soon to be husband (Angus) at the train station. He was also known as Roy for short.

“Daddy!”, exclaimed Charlotte.

“Look at you sweetheart, All bright an shiny like a living doll, give us a twirl” Roy said.

“Whoo! Is this is a wedding dress? Can I have a sneak peek?” Roy asked jokingly.

“Don't be a cheat Daddy, You'll get a full preview on our big day” Charlotte answered.

“Angus I see you made the return trip as well” Roy said.

“A wedding is generally between a woman and a man, Sheriff Pulsipher” Angus replied.

“Yes it is indeed” Roy replied in a weird way.

It was as if he wasn't satisfied that Angus is the man that his daughter chose to be her Husband. Angus looked like he couldn't hurt a fly and Roy was worried about his daughter's protection. Charlotte knew Roy didn't like Angus because he (Roy) Angus would take away the place of being ‘the No.1 man in her(Charlotte) life’.

While they stood by the train station, there was an attack by the horsemen — The Samuels.

The Samuels are Five brothers who attack a town and kidnap people. For what reason…Who knows?

While the attack was going on Roy hauled Charlotte and Angus to safety then came back out only to get involved in a gunfight. The Samuels shot at him a lot of times but Roy his behind a wooden cart. Roy managed to shoot two of the brothers but surprisingly they didn't die, They were still standing!

Zeke, one of the brothers riding a horse came behind Roy and tried to shoot but Roy was vigilant and he turned immediately and shot Zeke off his horse. Roy rolled under the to other side to be safe only to be shot from behind. Yeah Roy died. Immediately Roy was shot, he saw a bright light and suddenly found himself in a chair, a table was in front of him with a golden bucket on it. The walls of the place Roy was were white. As he looked around he saw this young lady sitting in front of him— Her name was Hano.

“It's crazy ride getting here” Hano said.

“I just saw the most…” Roy muttered

“Bright beautiful light you ever did see? That’d be heaven. Heading towards it is a good sign for your future but you haven't made it there yet” Hano interrupted.

“Hold on! Hold your damn horses! Did you just say heaven?” Roy asked

“I've read your file Roy. I know everything about you and none of it says you are hard of hearing” Hano replied.

“I’m dead?” Roy asked.

“Yes, you are” Hano answered.

“Charlotte? What about my daughter Charlotte?” Roy asked again.

“Umm…Negative” Hano replied.

“She's dead. She's dead” Roy said in a sobbing voice.

“No, no…Negative means positive. Negative means not dead” Hano said.

“Negative means not dead? That is very confusing, change that. But good. She's got her wedding at the end of the week.” Roy said.

“It's in two days actually” Hano said.

“Come again?” Roy asked surprisingly.

“You've been dead for three days. It takes a while for upstairs to ratify judgement before sending a soul to where it belongs, you were sent to us. Welcome to the RIPD.” Hano said.

“The RIP…what?” Roy asked.

“‘D’. Stands for department, RIP is your standard Rest In Peace. I'm the captain of the West American division. Name's Hano. See, we only generally get soldiers, warriors and sheriffs who dearly depart shuffled in here to us. At least the ones worthy enough to serve on God's own police force in the ongoing fight against the ‘deados’.” Hano explained.

“The what-oes?” Roy s asked again.

“The deados. Souls that escape their judgement and hang around earth like the bad smell they are. Our job is to find them and send them to where their ticket got punched— Hell, Roy. We send them to hell.” Hano replied.

“Heaven and Hell? Whoo!.” Roy exclaimed.

Hano took Roy around the RIPD and they got talking.

“So these souls that escape that judgement in hell are what you call ‘deados’” Roy said.

“Not yet. A soul by its very definition is a spectral energy. Disembodied, it's ineffectual. To sow the havoc a rogue soul desires, it needs a body.” Hano explained.

“Wait. A human body?” Roy asked.

Exactly. And once it takes one over, possesses it, if you will, then it becomes a problem. Our problem. It becomes a deado. The more deados on earth, the unbalanced the natural order threatening all of human life.

Hano took Roy to a big room where there were many weapons. Roy immediately, took hold of a gun. Hano applauded him for picking a nice gun but Roy said nothing can come between him and his Susie— his gun. Roy named his personal gun Susie. Hano described Susie ‘useless’ against the deados so she insisted he took the gun he took initially because the bullets in Susie would would only sting the deados like a snake bite while the bullet in the gun Roy took would do the job— eliminate the deados.

Roy looked around the room and saw logo that looked like a snake biting its tail and he asked what it meant. Hano told told him the logo signifies life, death and rebirth. The logo is the same one forged on the chest of deados after possessing a human body.

“Cut to the chase, why am I here?” Roy asked.

“Roy, do you remember that total eclipse about a month ago? Well, there was an abnormal rupture at the gateway near Red Creek, an old mining town in Utah. Abnormal because it registered with us as a kind of hellish discharge.” Hano said

“I know an old quack back at home who has a remedy for hellish discharges if you know what I mean.” Roy said and winked.

“Duly noted. But not what we are looking for. You, however know that terrain better than most. You sign up and we’ll get back to earth right away to check it all out.” Hano said.

“Now that’s a carrot worth a dangle. If I get to go back to earth, Sign me up and count me in!” Roy said.

“I know what's going on in that noggin of yours Roy, everyone in your position thinks the same thing but revenge for your murder is not the mission, getting to Red Creek is. Let sleeping dogs lie. You’re a dead man and there's nothing we can do to change that. Now before you read and sign, you should know the standard service term…” Hano said.

“I already said I'm in, let's seal the deal. Send me back.” Roy interrupted.

Hano put Roy in a metallic box, pressed some buttons and sent him back to earth.
