Chapter 1 Years Before

Julio POV

The night sky is filled with so many stars. My mother said Dad would come home soon, and staying up until he returned home was my price for eating my vegetables. As I stay looking out, my blond hair curls around my head, and my green pajamas keep me warm in the window's frame. With my blue eyes, I see a group of wolves turning towards us, smiling at the thought that my dad has finally arrived. I run out of my room on the third floor of the pack house, stopping to knock on my mom's room.

"Mom! Dad is home! Hurry, hurry, we need to go to him now!" Anxious, I run downstairs to greet my dad.

Passing by everyone's room, I don't see anyone out. Strangely, the house is quiet, but maybe it's quieter at night than I thought. Jumping stair steps, I hit the ground on the last step to bump into someone, and my nose hit the person, and I put my hands on my face.

"I'm sorry for bumping into you; I'm in a hurry to get home." Those were the last words I could say as I felt a sharp pain hit me, and then it all went blank.

Marcella POV

Eating that mushroom was a horrible mistake. As I walk back to my room, I overhear someone talking in my small library. I walk near it to get a better view.

"What do you mean everyone is poisoned?! The Red Moon Pack's Alpha is the best warrior to serve my rule. Get the nearest packs under my orders to assist with this situation. I will arrive shortly." My father boomed with his King Alpha command.

Taking my leave, I ran to my room, hoping he did not smell me or hear my steps. My father hardly takes his anger at a subject seriously. But if this is true, who could have done such a thing, and why? About to reach my door knob, my father's hand holds it instead.

I gulp loudly and look up to see my father's angry face. I smile at my father; surely, he cannot be angry at me. I ate all my meat and fruits today after such harsh training.

"You were listening earlier, Ella. Explain." My smile fades as I place my hands across my chest, my eyebrows forward, and my mouth like a sour face at my father's accusations.

"I was; your shouting alarmed me, and after learning of your departure, I returned to my room. Before you placed your hand to deliberately stop me," I nodded at my statement about my father's attempt to punish me.

"That's my daughter, staring forward and truthful. Now what am I to do according to your understanding?" This is no trick question for a father, seeing as he is smiling with pride.

"You are to leave bright and early in the morning and allow your subjects to work on their task; by the time you arrive, more answers will be provided, and fewer complications will be presented." Politics, etiquette, laws, and regulations are a very sour education, but I wish to be Queen one day, so I shall receive all my training till I rule with an iron fist.

"Sounds like a perfect plan. I shall inform the butler to make a small bag with my things and prepare my top warriors with two trackers to leave early in the morning. May I rest with my Queen and princess tonight?" I smile, as I know my father approves of my plans.

Taking his hands to go to Mother and rest with them both, I think of how my father just finished a war, and here he is about to leave again. Looking up at my father, I walk a bit shorter.

"Father?" He looks my way as I speak to him.

"Is this truly required?" He shows me his worried face, and he picks me up on his hip.

As we walk into his room, we walk out to the terrace of his room, where the night sky is showing all the stars. The woods surrounding our castle are of dark tones, and the animals can be heard clearly, but they are far away from my vision. When I hug my father's neck, I hear his breathing, and when I see my mother hug my father on his other side,

"Everyone who I rule over is important to me. Our kingdom was not built to destroy those who follow our ruling, but to honor, protect, and at these times save my daughter." Mother gasped, as she was not aware of all this.

"Another war?" Mother asks as she looks at Father with sad eyes. My father kisses her forehead and hugs her tight.

"No. The Red Moon Pack was ambushed, and their Alpha's son was kidnapped just now. The poor boy is lost for now. We will find him and bring him back to his home." Now I have come to gasp while my mother answers.

"No deaths from their ambush?" Father says, No. I let out a breath and hugged him a bit more.

"Let us retire for the night, my love. The morning will bring me all the answers we will need." Mother nods as the father takes me to bed with her.

Placed in between my father and mother with her baby bump, I sleep into a strange dream. I'm swimming in dark blue water, surrounded by bones of different shapes and sizes. As I swim up the water, I see a bright light. The top of the water shows me a bright room, and as I see within it, the room holds no other color.

Placing my hands on what I thought to be a marble floor, I realized it was all grass, white grass. Walking through the room, I feel the word lookup, which is the sky in a dark gray. What a strange place this is. Walking further away from the pond, I see a red figure-a woman, I am to assume, in all red clothing.

"Hello? May I know where I am? Who are these?" I ask the woman, who does not show me any indications of responding, and when I am a couple of steps away from her, I feel the wind pick my light gray-blue hair up into the air.

Seeing my hair for a moment to calm it, I look back at the woman again. To be face to face with a dark-faced woman smiling wickedly at me, I jump back at the sight.

"It is I; you seek to speak? May you be such a powerful child. Fear not; Selene shall not hurt my children." She speaks with such a calm voice for such a feared woman.

Selene, as she says she is, walks away slowly, recomposing herself. I walk behind her; she slows down enough to be by my side. I look around to see the red and black shadows of wolves, my eyebrows are united as I see so many around me.

"Do you seek answers from a young pup?" Selene asks me, and I think of a question to learn if she speaks the truth. I have learned of no such creature to speak to our Moon Goddess.

"How am I to be assured you are who you state to be? Selene?" She giggles at my question.

"Ah, it seems my choice was right. You wish to be reassured. You must know that the gods are not truthful and reliable. Fair enough. I shall answer your question." We stop in what feels like the middle of nowhere, and when she takes my hand, I feel my body hurt, my head pining me with needles.

"What is this?" I shouted from the pain I felt within me.

"Your Lycan child, I have no secrets from my lover's creations. It seems Lycaon has brought you to me as a gift. I shall bring him, my son, then. But you must rescue him. The boy named Julio of the Red Moon Pack is as gifted as you are. All of these are alive, but they know the pack was not ambushed; it was placed under a spell. An Elf and Witch are working on the destruction of our kind. You shall have a baby brother who will bring change to the ruling, and your marriage will fail, only to bring cause. Go ahead; you are the only one who can find him, after all. He is your mate."

I opened my eyes, my father still sleeping. I look towards my mother, who is asleep as well, and I am frightened as to what the future holds for me. Shaking my father awake, he holds my arm awake.

"Father, I must tell you about Julio."

I sat on the cold tile floor of our Upper East Side penthouse, staring at the two pink lines until my vision blurred. After ten years of loving Julian Sterling and three years of a hollow marriage, I finally had the one thing that could bridge the distance between us. I was pregnant. But Julian didn't come home with flowers for our anniversary. He tossed a thick manila envelope onto the marble coffee table with a heavy thud. Fiona, the woman he'd truly loved for years, was back in New York, and he told me our "business deal" was officially over. "Sign it," He said, his voice flat and devoid of emotion. He looked at me with the cold detachment of a man selling a piece of unwanted furniture. When I hesitated, he told me to add a zero to the alimony if the money wasn't enough. I realized in that moment that if he knew about the baby, he wouldn't love me; he would simply take my child and give it to Fiona to raise. I shoved the pregnancy test into my pocket, signed the papers with a shaking hand, and lied through my teeth. When my morning sickness hit, I slumped to the floor to hide the truth. "It's just cramps," I gasped, watching him recoil as if I were contagious. To make him stay away, I invented a man named Jack-a fake boyfriend who supposedly gave me the kindness Julian never could. Suddenly, the man who wanted me gone became a monster of possessiveness. He threatened to "bury" a man who didn't exist while leaving me humiliated at his family's dinner to rush to Fiona's side. I was so broken that I even ate a cake I was deathly allergic to, then had to refuse life-saving steroids at the hospital because they would harm the fetus. Julian thinks he's stalling the divorce for two months to protect the family's reputation for his father's Jubilee. He thinks he's keeping his "property" on a short leash until the press dies down. He has no idea I'm using those sixty days to build a fortress for my child. By the time he realizes the truth, I'll be gone, and the Sterling heir will be far beyond his reach.

For seventeen years, I was the crown jewel of the Kensington empire, the perfect daughter groomed for a royal future. Then, a cream-colored envelope landed in my lap, bearing a gold crest and a truth that turned my world into ice. The DNA test result was a cold, hard zero percent-I wasn't a Kensington. Before the ink could even dry, my parents invited my replacement, a girl named Alleen, into the drawing room and treated me like a trespasser in my own home. My mother, who once hosted galas in my honor, wouldn't even look me in the eye as she stroked Alleen's arm, whispering that she was finally "safe." My father handed me a one-million-dollar check-a mere tip for a billionaire-and told me to leave immediately to avoid tanking the company's stock price. "You're a thief! You lived my life, you spent my money, and you don't get to keep the loot!" Alleen shrieked, trying to claw the designer jacket off my shoulders while my "parents" watched with clinical detachment. I was dumped on a gritty sidewalk in Queens with nothing but three trunks and the address of a struggling laborer I was now supposed to call "Dad." I traded a marble mansion for a crumbling walk-up where the air smelled of exhaust and my new bedroom was a literal storage closet. My biological family thought I was a broken princess, and the Kensingtons thought they had successfully erased me with a payoff and a non-disclosure agreement. They had no idea that while I was hauling trunks up four flights of stairs, my secret media empire was already preparing to move against them. As I sat on a thin mattress in the dark, I opened my encrypted laptop and sent a single command that would cost my former father ten million dollars by breakfast. They thought they were throwing me to the wolves, but they forgot one thing: I'm the one who leads the pack.
