"You dare," he hissed, his face inches from mine. "You dare run from me? On this night of all nights?" His grip tightened as his eyes swept over me, cold and cruel. "Do you think dye and lenses can save you from me, Ximena?" My heart shattered. Because I wasn't Ximena. And he wasn't listening. Mildred Gayle was never meant to be seen, let alone chosen. On the night the Supreme Alpha King is set to wed, Mildred is cast out of her home and into the dark streets of the capital. Mistaken for the king's missing bride, she is dragged into the palace and thrown at the feet of Hayden Blackthorne, a ruthless Alpha whose fury is as deadly as his power. When he discovers she is not the woman he was promised but his fated mate, Hayden rejects her without mercy. With his true bride gone and the kingdom watching, Hayden forces Mildred into a marriage built on lies and fear. Trapped in a castle of secrets, she becomes a queen in name only. Watched, controlled, and denied love. As enemies close in and whispers of betrayal grow louder, Mildred realizes that the woman she was mistaken for, Ximena, left behind secrets dangerous enough to destroy the throne, and kill her. When war reaches the palace and Mildred makes a fateful choice, Hayden must face the truth he tried to deny. She was never weak. She was never disposable. And losing her may be the one thing even an Alpha King cannot survive.

REJECTED AND MARRIED TO THE CRUEL ALPHA Chapter 1 WE HAVE FOUND LADY XIMENA

WE HAVE FOUND LADY XIMENA

MILDRED'S POV

The overhead bulb glared against the mirror, highlighting my stepmother's gorgeousness. She leaned closer, carefully dusting on another layer of rouge as if her beauty depended on it.

Molly, my half-sister, hummed excitedly as she wore her neck piece. She adjusted it carefully, still beaming like she was the bride-to-be.

"Mildred!" she called out with a snap, swirling to face me. "Come fix my dress quickly," she said, scanning me from head to toe, irritated.

I clenched my fingers around the broom handle, stifling a sigh. Of course. Tonight was the Supreme Alpha's wedding. An event that the entire kingdom of Selenia had been buzzing about. For Molly, it wasn't just about the celebration. It was her stage to show off.

"Yes, Molly," I muttered, lowering the broom against the wall. I moved quickly, because in this house, reluctance meant trouble.

I stepped behind her and tugged at the stubborn material of her dress. The crimson silk clung to her body like a second skin, refusing to obey. She had chosen it deliberately, something too tight, too daring, because Molly always wanted heads to turn when she walked past. An ultimate attention seeker.

"Be careful," she hissed, tilting her chin higher. "If you ruin this, I'll..."

Riiiiip.

The fabric tore. My vision blurred instantly. I froze. Only the Goddess could save me now.

Molly's shriek pierced the air. "MOTHER!" she screamed. "Mildred intentionally ripped my dress apart!" she added, crying.

Navaeh's reflection turned sharply in the mirror. Her eyes went cold as they fell on me, and my face burned with dread.

I was in trouble. Molly had been preparing this outfit since the wedding was announced. She planned to make heads turn, and I had just ruined it. There was no escape.

"Oh, of course," Navaeh spat, rising to her feet. "Who else could destroy such a beautiful gown but you, Millie? Bad luck follows you like a shadow."

"Mother... I... I didn't mean to..." I stammered.

Before I could finish, her hand struck my cheek. My vision darkened for a second before slowly returning.

"You never mean to. Just like you didn't mean to kill your mother when you were born?" Navaeh said coldly.

The familiar ache settled in my chest. I had long stopped defending myself, but her words still reopened old wounds.

"Please..." I whispered.

"Are you blind?" Molly snapped. "Don't you ever refer to her as your mother. Yours is dead. Learn the difference."

Navaeh smirked. "I can never be your mother. You didn't even give your real one a chance to live." She grabbed a fistful of my hair and yanked my head back. Tears sprang to my eyes.

"You are cursed," she hissed, shoving me aside. "If it were up to me, you'd never step in this house again. But your father pities you too much to banish you."

A dry laugh almost escaped me. Pity? Father didn't pity me. He despised me. To him, I was the reason his Luna was buried in the cold earth.

"Mom, what about my dress?" Molly whined. "We can't be late to the Supreme Alpha's wedding. Everyone will be watching."

"Don't cry, darling. You have dozens of gowns. But this one can still be saved." Navaeh's gaze slid back to me. "You. Fetch me a needle and thread. Now."

My stomach dropped. "B... but it's late. All the shops will be closed..."

"Do you think I care?" Her voice turned icy. "Fix this dress, or your father will hear you ruined it. Or do you want him to deal with you himself?"

Fear crawled down my spine. Father's punishments were far worse than Navaeh's slaps or Molly's insults.

"N... no ma'am," I mumbled, hurrying toward the door.

"Get out! And be quick," Molly snapped as I rushed away.

It was cold outside, yet the streets were alive.

Cars filled the roads, and people walked in beautiful outfits, all headed to the wedding. The wedding of the century.

Some held placards, chanting excitedly. It was rumored the Supreme Alpha had never taken a woman before, so his marriage was a grand spectacle. Not for me, though. I had greater problems.

I pulled my shawl tighter and walked faster.

My thoughts swirled. Twenty years old and useless. No wolf. No mate. Daughter of an Alpha who didn't even acknowledge me as a princess. Just a mistake.

My father's words echoed in my head.

"You should have died with your mother. If you don't find your wolf this year, I will banish you."

Tears gathered in my eyes, but I forced them back.

I had heard whispers about what happened to those my father truly cast aside. They were taken away, never seen again. No one spoke of it openly, but the fear alone was enough to haunt my nights.

I prayed constantly to the Moon Goddess to bring my mate quickly. Even if I wanted to die, I didn't want to disappear like that.

Lost in thought, I didn't notice the approaching car until blinding headlights flooded my vision.

Tires screeched as a black vehicle stopped inches from me.

"What the heck!" I stumbled back, shielding my eyes.

Three men stepped out, dressed in dark suits that clung to their powerful frames. They moved toward me with calculated steps, their gazes sharp.

"Lady Ximena," one of them said.

Confusion tore through me. "W... who?"

"Seize her," the leader ordered.

Before I could react, two men grabbed my arms.

"No! Let me go!" I screamed, struggling. "You've mistaken me! I'm not who you think I am!"

"Silence," the leader snapped. "The Alpha has been waiting. You will not disappoint him again."

The Alpha? My heart nearly stopped. The Supreme Alpha?

Panic surged. "Please, listen! I'm not Ximena!"

They didn't listen. They tied my hands and shoved me into the back seat.

"Can't you see you're making a mistake?" I cried.

No answer.

The engine roared, and the city lights blurred as we sped away.

My body shook as I sat trapped between two guards.

Navaeh's face flashed in my mind. Did she plan this? But no... this felt bigger than her cruelty.

One of the men lifted a phone to his ear.

"Alpha," he said. "We have found Lady Ximena."

The world tilted.

"No," I whispered, tears falling. "I'm not her... I'm not Ximena... please..."

But my pleas were swallowed by the hum of the moving car.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch—a titan of industry and my best friend’s father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

The heavy iron gates of the Wilderness Correction Camp groaned as they released me after three years of state-sponsored hell. I stood on the dirt road, clutching a plastic bag that held my entire life, waiting for the family that claimed they sent me there for "rehab." My brother, Brady, picked me up in a luxury SUV only to throw me out onto a deserted highway in the middle of a brewing storm. He told me I was a "public relations nightmare" and that the rain might finally wash the "stink" of the camp off me. He drove away, leaving me to limp miles through the mud on a snapped ankle. When I finally dragged myself to our family estate, my mother didn't offer a hug; she gasped in horror because my muddy clothes were ruining her Italian marble. They didn't give me my old room back. Instead, they banished me to a moldy gardener’s shack and hired a "babysitter" to make sure I didn't embarrass them further. My sister, Kaleigh, stood there in white cashmere, pretending to cry while clinging to her fiancé, Ambrose—the man who had once been mine. They all treated me like a volatile junkie, refusing to acknowledge that Kaleigh was the one who planted the drugs in my bag three years ago. They wanted to believe I was broken so they wouldn't have to feel guilty about the "wellness retreat" that was actually a torture chamber. I sat in the dark of that shed, feeling the cooling gel on the cigarette burns that covered my arms, and realized they had made a fatal mistake. They thought they had erased me, but I had returned with a roadmap of scars and a hidden satellite phone. At dinner, I didn't beg for their love. I simply rolled up my sleeves and showed them the price of their silence. As the wine spilled and the lies crumbled, I sent a single text to the only person I trusted: "I'm in. Let them simmer." The hunt was finally on.

The heavy thud of the release stamp was the only goodbye I got from the warden after five years in federal prison. I stepped out into the blinding sun, expecting the same flash of paparazzi bulbs that had seen me dragged away in handcuffs, but there was only a single black limousine idling on the shoulder of the road. Inside sat my mother and sister, clutching champagne and looking at my frayed coat with pure disgust. They didn't offer a welcome home; instead, they tossed a thick legal document onto the table and told me I was dead to the city. "Gavin and I are getting engaged," my sister Mia sneered, flicking a credit card at me like I was a stray dog. "He doesn't need a convict ex-fiancée hanging around." Even after I saved their lives from an armed kidnapping attempt by ramming the attackers off the road, they rewarded me by leaving me stranded in the dirt. When I finally ran into Gavin, the man who had framed me, he pinned me against a wall and threatened to send me back to a cell if I ever dared to show my face at their wedding. They had stolen my biotech research, ruined my name, and let me rot for half a decade while they lived off my brilliance. They thought they had broken me, leaving me with nothing but an expired chapstick and a few old photos in a plastic bag. What they didn't know was that I had spent those five years becoming "Dr. X," a shadow consultant with five hundred million dollars in crypto and a secret that would bring the city to its knees. I wasn't just a victim anymore; I was a weapon, and I was pregnant with the heir they thought they had erased. I walked into the Melton estate and made an offer to the most powerful man in New York. "I'll save your grandfather's life," I told Horatio Melton, staring him down. "But the price is your last name. I'm taking back what's mine, and I'm starting with the man who thinks he's marrying my sister."

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.
